Rating: Summary: More about it, than what it is . . . Review: Complete info on Scientlogy -- all of the FAQs answered. If you're trying to find out about it, this is it! There are better books by L.Ron Hubbard himself, that provide the technical basis of Scientology, but this covers all bases from how it works to statistical results, to testimonials from real Scientologits.
Rating: Summary: Very Useful Review: I am a Scientologist and I have been asked about Scientologymany times by family and even total strangers. This book is a verygood and thorough review of basic principles of the Scientologyphilosophy, its religious practices and its technology, that will helpexplain it to anyone new to the subject. It gives information peoplecan look over themselves in their own homes and try out, so they cansee whether or not it is true for them -- a basic principle ofScientology is that one is never asked to believe anything inScientology but rather to try it out and see if it makes sense tothem. The book also contains lots of photographs and charts, is wellorganized and indexed, making it easy to assimilate. I recommend ithighly.
Rating: Summary: Good for knowledge, bad for the practice Review: I bought this book with the intention of learning about Scientology's beliefs and the application of these in one's life. What I found was a long and often boring list of the different books and courses used in moving a preClear along their journey. If interested in the pure factology of the subject, this book is fine. But for information that can be applied to one's life, I am sure reading Dianetics and/or Scientology: The Fundamentals of Thought would be a much better idea (they are my next read).
Rating: Summary: Reading this book has given me a new view! Review: I found the book What Is Scientology very informative. It helped clear up questions like, is it really a religion. And if so, what has this religion really done to help others. I was very surprised at what I learned. I truely believe if you have ever wondered about this new religion, Scientology, that you should read this book, it helped me understand a lot more about the church, the people, what they have done, and more about the organization. I feel it is a must to read, rather than listen to all the roomers that fly around. Not only that I found some very interesting information in this book that I could use to help myself and my ability to get along with some others that I was having some trouble dealing with and handling. That was a nice added benefit for me.
Rating: Summary: This book will answer your questions Review: I have been a Scientologist for 20 years. If you really want to know what Scientology is and, more importantly, what it can do for YOU, then this is the book. It's the only book I have seen that accurately portrays what goes on behind the doors of the many Churches of Scientology around the world. It's not as mysterious and arcane as a few people might like you to believe. There aren't any strange rituals or anything of the sort. It's a collection of workable, useable knowledge to help the able people of the world become more able. How to have a happier marriage, recover from pain faster, make the right decisions in life, better understand why people act the way they do--these sorts of life questions are all addressed wonderfully in Scientology. The best way to find out about Scientology is to find out for youself by reading a book. You can listen to all the hearsay (other people's opinions), or you can gather your own evidence. If judges in courts of law won't accept hearsay as evidence in making decisions, why should you? Go see for yourself. Read something from Hubbard. Or read WHAT IS SCIENTOLOGY?"
Rating: Summary: An interesting religion Review: I have spent my life studying religions, in college, reading books and trying different spiritual ideas. I read this book because I didn't know anything about Scientology. Clearly, it's a religion with lots of practical solutions to the problems society can't fix. I don't understand some of the scathing reviews I read. But, hey, there are always negative people around with closed minds who just seem to like to destroy. Read it anyway.
Rating: Summary: You don't NEED this book. Review: I say you don't NEED this book because it is not critical to your progression in Scientology. It is great as a supplement to your understanding of the basics of the religion and the degree to which it has permeated society, but if you are hoping that this book will get you started on the path of Scientology in terms of exercises, you will be disappointed.
Here's what this book will tell you. 1) L. Ron Hubbard founded Scientology in the 1950s as an extention to his ground-breaking book on Dianetics. 2) Scientology is pervasive in the world today, and it has been/continues to be very successful. 3) In order to benefit from Scientology, you MUST go through the processes of auditing and training. 4) Auditing evaluates your current condition and training helps you to improve your life in a variety of ways. 5) Auditing requires the use of the E-Meter, which is supposed to help the auditor find aspects of your reactive mind, but in reality is only a glorified Ohmmeter and will tell you your body's resistance to electricity.
If you want to get started in Scientology, go to scientology.org and find your nearest Scientology Church. [...]. Hubbard wrote many many books, and if you're serious about learning on your own what Scientology has to offer, start with his first major work, Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health. But whatever you do, don't buy this book unless you're alredy engaged with the religion and simply want to enhance your understanding of it.
Rating: Summary: Very informative Review: I've been a Scientologist for 27 years. I've worked for the Church, as well. So I really know ALL about it. I was very happy when this book came out, because it honestly and accurately answers all the questions people have been asking for years and years about Scientology. It's excellent for friends and family members of Scientologists so that they can become informed and, in turn, answer other people's queries about what it's all about. If you want to actually LEARN Scientology or Dianetics, read the books on the subject by L. Ron Hubbard like DIANETICS or SELF ANALYSIS.

Rating: Summary: This book delivers 100%. Review: I've heard the good and the bad about scientology, and decided to find out for myself. People are sometimes intimated/threatened by new technology, but once they come to understand it and apply it their fears subside because they realize that it works and that it is useful. I was a little intimidated my self, but not anymore. For me, SCIENTOLOGY WORKS and has helped me tremendously. Finally, if you want to live a happier, successful, and a more sane life read more scientology books. Read "A new slant on life" its a great book.
