Rating: Summary: "How do we go where no social movement has ever gone before? Review: "Given its subject matter--the tumultuous global justice movement and the many battles internal and external that this relatively young movement has already experienced--Webs of Power is a remarkably calm and level-headed book..." Activist and writer Patrick Diehl has a wonderful grasp of one of the best books about spirit, change and world transformation written in a long time. I really liked Starhawk's book.
Rating: Summary: More Loony-Toons Review: An insult to the intellect of young and old alike. One of the stupidest books I have ever read.
Rating: Summary: a definitive must for any search on social alternatives Review: I havent finished reading it yet, but i just have to say AMAZING. Honestly i found the first half of it a little slow and not that interesting (i dont like experience sharing) however, it does make the second half extremely more relevant and in-depth. The book deals with alternatives to a capitalist society based on the fact that democracy and capitalism are opposite types of systems. As i was reading this i ended up with over 15 pages of notes and thoughts of my own, definately stimulating! And since the topic is alternatives, i'd definately say borrow it from your library for a week or two and then decide for yourself to buy it!
Rating: Summary: A Must-Read For Anarchists and Pagans Alike Review: Starhawk's revolutionary book combines cutting-edge theory with front-line reports from the peace and global justice movements. This crucial text is required reading for any activist committed to combatting corporate globalization and the U.S. war machine.
Rating: Summary: Great Book: Finally an author who tells the truth!! Review: This is an amazing book that dares to tell the truth. However, it is only for those readers who have the will and strength to change the world and if that's not you than you probably won't like this book.
Rating: Summary: The Goddess in the streets Review: With all the horrors of the present age, I often find it difficult to keep from sinking in hopeless despair. Starhawk's "Webs of Power" is a beautifully created jewel of hope in the mire. This is not a think positive thoughts and love everyone new age panacea, but rather a collection of essays documenting the vision and the struggle. It is uplifting to know that there are others out there opposing the evils we have created. Fighting back with creativity, spontaneity and a worldview that rejects the framework of existing power relations by envisioning the world we want to live in: then working to create it. For Starhawk, magic is not just about chanting around an altar to the Goddess. It is about bringing the Goddess out into the streets with plants and seeds, paint and laughter. Taking the vision and creating it with our own hands: the hands of goddess. It is about learning to refuse oppressive authoritarian power, not by confronting it with more of the same, but rather by tapping into our own innate power - power from within. The power of people working together towards a shared goal.
