The Allies (An American Family Portrait Book 6)

Summary: Entertaining && Amusing
Review: Although I can't say the same for some of the rest of the series, I really enjoyed this book. It is *very* funny with fast-paced excitement, charming characters, and a sensible and easy to follow plot.

Johnny (sp?) is almost worth the price of the book alone. A loner, an honest, clever, and extremely exasperationg smart-alicky person (he and his family do NOT get along, esp. he and his sister). His scenes jumped to life (except for one point near the end, that is, but he recovered soon).

Kate (his sister) is a charmingly cool, person who is strong-willed without beind annoying and idiotyl stubborn. The secondary characters are well-drawn (though Kate's boyfriend could be a LOT better) and pleasant (or evil as the case may be <g>).

The plot will not keep you in breathless suspense, but there are some interesting twists (especiall with Emily!!!) that I think most readers would prefer to a convoluted plot. Frankly, in the opinion of a younger reader, the author would have done better to have more on Kate and Johnny and less on their parents, but others (especially those who have been following the series) may enjoy this.

The occasional (a very good amount, actually) Christianity is not banged over the head of the hapless reader, which I greatly appreciated. However, I confess to skimming most the 'religion' scenes simply because the same things are said/happen in most Christian books and I find that if you know it, it is deadly dull. I find the Bible business (the whole thing with them passing it down) to be the red flag in front of the furious bull (at least for me) but there is thankfully little of that in this amusingly hilarious and laugh-out-loud book.

All in all, I heartily recomment this book. Even if you have not liked other books in the series, you really ought to try this one. Action and adventure and romance and mystery!
