The Beginning of Sorrows Review: Perhaps it's just my frame of mind at this moment in time, but I found this to be the most difficult book to get into. I struggled through the first four chapters and then finally just set the book aside. Having been so eager to start reading this set, imagine my disappointment in finding a story line that seemed to border on schizophrenia. It flip-flips, like a man with two left feet. I found it impossible to find anything worth keeping my interest, and the characters held no interest for me whatsoever. It seems to me that the one goal of this author was to find characters who had names a mile long, impossible to pronounce (much less remember), and not one of the characters held any depth to which I could hold onto. They are like shadows in the fog, impossible to see, impossible to relate to, pathetic. I purchased the first two books based upon the astounding reviews received by other readers here. At this point, I'm sorry that I did. Perhaps, I'll pick them up later and try again. I would suggest Ted Dekker instead. Begin with "Heaven's Wager." I started reading this series after putting "The Beginning of Sorrows" down, and I haven't had a bit of trouble. Ted Dekker is an incredible writer --- characters that you can relate to and empathize with and a story line that is clear and steady. You definitely won't be disappointed with Dekker.
