Rating: Summary: The Shunning Review: I absolutely could not put this book down. I am REALLY NOT religious but this trilogy is extraordinary! Book 2 is a little slow but you have to read all the way to the end of book 3. I have since read another series of this author and was amazed by it. I am now reading the Young Adult series (summerhill?) and really like the first one so far. I have had much contact with the Amish community in "real life", (and this makes the books more real for me) but I am TOTALLY NOT religious. You will really like these books regardless of your religious practices. (I was surprised initially to find out that this author is listed as religious fiction.) If my co-workers could only see.!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: One of the BEST books I have read! Review: I got the first book of this series titled The Shunning, and I must say, I am so excited to get my hands on the other books! I got this book for Christmas and I wasn't sure how I felt about it. But the after the first chapter I read, I couldn't put it down! Katie is a very open-hearted person and didn't want to disapoint her Amish friends and family, but she wanted the forbidden life. I love reading every page and it is a wonderful book! If you get a chance, read it!
Rating: Summary: Light, easy reading...doesn't require lots of concentration. Review: I have just read the first two books in the series and enjoyed them very much. I am waiting to buy the last one and get started reading. This was light, easy reading and very informative. I recommend these books.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Author and Great Reading Review: I have read all the Beverly Lewis books and I love them all! Have shared them with multiple friends and they all agree. Just getting ready to read her current one "The Covenant". Highly recommend this Author and her books! Good Clean enjoyment and hard to put down reading!
Rating: Summary: The Shunning Review: I would definately recommend the Shunning! I couldn't put it down. Can't wait to get the others.
Rating: Summary: 1st book great ; 2nd not so great Review: I've read the first two books of this series ,so far, and have found the first one to be the best. The characters Amish life is very enjoyable to read about (although, not quite true to life) in the first book. Katie is potrayed as a very spirited girl and this keeps the book pretty fast paced and interesting. In the second book (The Confession) the author really loses her ability to keep the story plot interesting and believable. It becomes very weak. What I really disliked the most in this one was how syrupy all the other characters acted towards Katie Lapp's real mother (the rich woman in the wheelchair). I became mentally nauseated (if such a thing can happen!) each time I read anything that had to do with her in the book. I realize the author was trying to portray her as a very gracious yet very physically ill person, but, it all came off so sweetsy like that I couldn't help but roll my eyes and mutter, "Oh brother...." each time. The only real enjoyable parts of this second book were the "Amish parts". The parts that took place back in Amish country, or Katy's flashbacks to them. However, these parts were few and far between in this book. Even though the second book bombed out, I still plan on reading the 3rd just to see what it's about. I'm hoping it has more about Amish living than the second. And I also hope it's not as weak (and syrupy! get the waffles out!!!). I'm rating this series, so far, with 3 stars only because the 1st book was so good. I would have given it 5 if the 2nd were much better. I'll rate this series again once I've read the 3rd. Thanks for reading!
Rating: Summary: starts out great but disappoints in the end Review: The first part of this series, "The Shunning" was really a good story. The conflicts of faith and conscience were real and genuine. The details of Amish life were rich. As I read, I longed to know the rest of the story. However, the next two novels sink into being preachy without a real discussion of faith and theology. The author intimates that the Amish are not Christians without defending that theology. I did a little bit of research and the Amish and Mennoites come from the same Anabaptist roots. The author indicates that "the people" don't "know Jesus". She needs to do a better job defending her position if she is going to judge. In the second and third books the story is consumed by the "conversion" and the characters lose depth. What started out to be a great story falls flat in the end.

Rating: Summary: Very Good Books Review: The Heritage of Lancaster County series were really good books. I read all three of them and found them to be very interesting. I wish there was at least one more to add to the series.
Rating: Summary: Awesome series! Review: These books are so good they are worth reading again. I especially like book 3, when Katy sees Daniel walking down the street. They are light to read, but have a bit of suspense to make them hard to put down. It was also interesting to learn about the Amish.
