Summary: Recipes to please any Goddess and her family
Review: After preparing the Tortellini with Sun-Dried Tomatoes and Feta on page 23 of the Everyday Feasts section of "RECIPES FROM A VEGETARIAN GODDESS", I knew this cook book was going to be a winner. The dish's easy preparation with delectable results inspired me to turn to the variety of other unusual entrees, plus the offerings of soups, salads, and deserts all with enticing flavors and Goddess inspired combinations. Especially helpful is the Vegetarian Goddess' Pantry that appears at the beginning of the book, which lists "must have on hand items" to make the menu planning and preparation of these innovative recipes with ease. You will delight in all this book has to offer, from the visually stunning cover painted by the artist/author KARRI ALLRICH, to reading her beginning comments before each recipe, to the many splendid offerings you can easily prepare and enjoy. You will turn to this book time and time again for healthy and delicious meal planning. This would be a beautiful gift for a loved one, too, whether they are vegetarian or not...the recipes are for all to discover and savor. The book is now first in line in my row of cook books and I look forward to trying every one of these dishes through the seasons.

Summary: Book Review by Echoed Voices Magazine
Review: Artist, Author and Goddess in her own right, Karri Ann Allrich, has opened up a whole new world in cookbooks. To not only tantalize the taste buds, but to awaken the spiritual in us all.

She brings enjoyment back into cooking, by showing us the spiritual side to preparing meals. Interweaving of Deities Lore, Seasons and Food Recipes, she reminds us again to rejoice in life's simple pleasures and thank Goddess for her gifts. Season to season, from the easy to follow recipes to the staples of a vegetarian kitchen, this cookbook is complete.

After you read, "Recipes from a Vegetarian Goddess" you will not want to go into the kitchen without picking up this book. Karri has reminded us to bring the seasons back to the kitchen, not just at our altars.

I encourage all to purchase this book, and awaken the Goddess in you.

Summary: Delicious for mind and body
Review: Great recipes broken out by season that include both appetizers, soups, deserts and main dishes; but also great writing throughout the book to help celebrate the seasons. Highly recommended!

Summary: Sensual and delicious recipes!
Review: I like author Karri Allrich's idea of cooking in harmony with the changing seasons, and her approach to celebrating what each season has to offer. Her recipes are straight forward, most can be tossed together quickly, with ingredients not difficult to find in your supermarket.

There are plenty of creative ideas for combining foods and flavors, and if you love Mediterranean/Italian food, you'll love her emphasis on pastas, fresh soups, pizzas and focaccias.

Her 'Roasted Acorn Squash Risotto' is comforting and delicious. Other favorites I've tried are 'Winter Solstice Pumpkin Soup', 'Green Goddess Guacamole', 'Tri-colored Stuffed Peppers' and 'Linguini with White Vegetables and Pine Nuts'. Her desserts are yummy and tempting. The 'Classic Key Lime Pie' and 'Amen Farm Apple Cake' have become family favorites.

I also enjoyed her comments on the Goddess and her thoughts on taking the time to really share and enjoy food with our families and those we love. Her spirit is gentle, sensual and romantic. And her message is one we all need to hear :)

Add 'Recipes from a Vegetarian Goddess' to your own cookbook collection. Look for my Listmania List for more suggestions.

Summary: Beautifully done
Review: This book is a pleasure to read, between the artwork and the author's comments. Some of the dishes are more complicated than I care to make, but there are also some simple ones that look delicious. The ingredients and recipes are clear and easy to follow.

Summary: Seasonal Feasts!
Review: This book is filled with delicious, easy to prepare healthy meals. I am not a vegetarian, but do have a few vegetarian cookbooks. My other books contain recipes with hard-to-find ingredients, which makes it difficult to try something new! This book, unlike those, had ingredients available at my local grocery store, fast, flavorful meals and in an easy to read format.

This book is also divided into seasons, which I find to be VERY nice. Once, I had gone to an herbalist in Chinese medicine, and the doctor there told me that I was eating the wrong foods. I was confused, as I was eating salads! How unhealthy is that? She explained, because it was winter, I should have been eating warming foods; foods that are harvested in the wintertime, such as oranges, soups etc. I was really quite surprised, yet it made sense.

Later, I took an herbal healing class. In that class, the instructor stated that in a region where there is poison oak, for example, there is another herb capable of healing a poison oak reaction. I thought about that for a while, and fused these two ideas of thinking.

We are provided with foods that are nourishing to us in the appropriate season to where we live. That does not mean you can never eat pineapples in the north, but that you should take advantage of the bounty available to you while it is in season.

Karri Allrich presents this book in an effortless fashion, with little excerpts to go with each recipe, as well as sample menus for appropriate Pagan holidays. Her recipes are flavorful, and quick and easy to make. I look forward to her future cookbook, "Cooking by Moonlight, 13 Menus for 13 Moons" due out in 2002.

Examples of her recipes include: Bruschetta, Huevos Rancheros, Bear Dreamer's Walnut Biscotti, Spicy Hummus, Roasted Winter Vegetables and May Wine.

I would highly recommend this book for your kitchen!

Summary: Recipes for Everyday and Special Occassions
Review: This cookbook provides a great variety of foods to try and to explore. Many books tend to be full of recipes which may seem to complicated for the everyday cook, but Ms. Allrich has mastered the ability to share down-to-earth recipes which a cook with any ability can easily create.

The list of ingredients to keep in one's pantry was very helpful. The separation by Season is very logical. Various produce comes available at different times. As a gardener, I am already planning for meals with ingredients which are not yet harvested.

Summary: One of my favorites - but -
Review: This is a great cookbook - the one I use again and again. However, it is, unfortunately, out of print.

Here's the good news! This cookbook has been revised and updated as Cooking by the Seasons - Simple Vegetarian Feasts. I've just received my copy and reviewed it at Amazon today. You'll find the cookbook searching for Allrich, Karri or Cooking by the Seasons.

Enjoy! It's a fun cookbook, and the new design (though slightly different) has a good feel to it.

Summary: Hearty and delicious recipes -
Review: Vegetarian Goddess is a great cookbook for vegetarians and omnivores alike. Organized by the four seasons, chapters highlight foods appropriate for each seasonal holiday.

Allrich's recipes are simple to put together; there is an emphasis on fresh seasonal ingredients. Notes on the turning Wheel of the Year accent creative menus for the eight major Celtic festivals. From beverages and appetizers to soups, salads, main dishes and desserts, you'll find a satisfying recipe to help you celebrate the seasons.

Vegetarian Goddess features toss-together pasta recipes, quick fresh soups, focaccia and creative pizzas and plenty of hearty baked dishes - lasagnas, roasted vegetables, enchiladas, stuffed peppers. Unlike many vegetarian books, the desserts are tempting & wonderful. I highly recommend the Key Lime Pie.

A few other favorites include: Roasted Acorn Squash Risotto, Southwestern Polenta, Paradise Pizza and Penne Rustica. The focaccias are surprisingly easy (especially if you have a bread machine to mix the dough).

Allrich's recipes are easily adaptable. For those sensitive to dairy, recipes that feature milk, cheese or cream are offered with both non-dairy or dairy ingredients; one has a choice and most recipes are easily adapted to a vegan approach. If chicken or fish is included in your diet, you can easily add these.

All in all, a very creative, user-friendly cookbook with everyday recipes your family will enjoy.
