Review: Thielman delivers again! Moving away from simply a discussion of Paul's view of the Mosaic law (which has tended to dominate recent discussions), Thielman turns to look at what the rest of the NT has to say on this issue. He again showcases his impressive ability to explain difficult concepts and trace complex arguments with seeming ease. Matthew, John, Luke-Acts, Romans/Galatians and Hebrews are covered. The title chapters by themselves give helpful clues as to how exactly Thielman sees the function of each chapter toward the question of interest: What level of continuity is there with the Mosaic Law now that the eschatological event of the death and resurrection of Christ has broken into history? Thielman finds both continuity and discontinuity, but (rightly in my opinion) concludes that the stress is laid on the discontinuity. For an overview of the NT's view of the law, and not just Paul's, this short book should be one of the first places to turn.
