Rating: Summary: Cotrell's Romans Commentary Review: A very readable, well written commentary. Cottrell does a great job presenting conflicting opionions as well as his own. His treatment of Romans 9 - 11 is excellent.
Rating: Summary: Another reason why there should be a Zero Star rating Review: Dr. Cottrell has written an excellent commentary in terms of balance and perspective. He demonstrates both an awareness and understanding of other major commentaries of Romans. He also presents a well-reasoned approach that challenges the reader to greater understanding. The author is clearly a man of both faith and commitment. He writes about that which is of the greatest importance and value to him. His arguments are honest and compelling. They are based on grammatical, historical, and theological considerations.
Rating: Summary: A complete, word-by-word commentary & review of Romans. Review: If Romans is indeed the most important of all books, then this thoughtful commentary should be on everyone's shelf. Dr. Cottrell weaves history, careful analysis of N.T. Greek, and solid theological understanding & exegesis into a thorough, yet superbly readable, treatise of Romans 1-8. Suitable as a study text for formal classes or personal study. No serious student of the Bible should be without this volume.
Rating: Summary: Another reason why there should be a Zero Star rating Review: This book is pure conversative propoganda. If you are interested in a dispassionate and unemotional anaylsis of Romans 1-8 look elsewhere. The author at one point even claims that AIDS is God's punishment on homosexuals. I for one have always believed that God creates people as both heterosexual and homosexual. And that the condemnations of homosexuality in the Bible refer to when heterosexuals engage in homosexual activities and vice versa. Also, the author makes hardly any attempt to show differing viewpoints on what the text of Romans actually states. He simply states the most conservative viewpoint and expects people to agree with him wholeheartedly.
