Rating: Summary: Suggested Actions Bring Reflections to Life Review: Hermes has divided her message into 17 short chapters under three headings: naming the journey, encountering our loneliness, and abiding in love. Each consists of a brief vignette, scripture reflection, psalm, and one or more exercises under the heading "Breaking Open Your Life." It is these innocent looking activities that engage the reader. Try skimming over such exhortations as Make a list of the things you want to discuss with God or Contemplate the impulses, hopes, desires, and fears of your heart. Try resisting the vulnerability quiz that begins with the unfinished sentence "My father defined failure as..." Individuals or groups could use any chapter as the basis for meditation, prayer, and action. As a bonus, Hermes has included a chapter on methods of prayer and also an extensive bibliography.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Addition to Prayer Resource Library Review: In this book, Sister Kathryn Hermes richly and eloquently aids readers in finding prayer as a means to dealing with the hectic nature of today's modern life. Too often, we find ourselves distracted and removed from relationship with God. With clarity and purpose, the book offers three 'movements' for restoring and healing through prayer. The book's 'Breaking Open Your Life' activities offer a terrific opportunity for introspection and growth. I enjoyed my journey through this book to a deeper prayer relationship with God.
