Summary: The last word
Review: Robert L. Thomas has methodically studied the Book of Revelation for years. It was the subject of his doctoral dissertation at Dallas Theological Seminary, and he makes us feel his intense lifelong interest. This is the best, most detailed commentary from the pre-tribulational,dispensational perspective. In addition, Thomas is the author of an excellent work on the grammatical-historical hermeneutic, and does not engage in wild flights of fancy with the text.

The only drawback is that it is not too hard to become lost in the wealth of detail. If I had a serious interpretational question, Thomas' work is the first resource I would reach for. Yet, if you are looking for the dispensational perspective with more overview and less detail, consider Walvoord or Hindson.

Note: This second volume has the indices for both volumes one and two!

Summary: Premillennialism for the serious mind
Review: This commentary by Dr. Thomas is the fruit of many decades of careful study and interaction with the Greek text of Revelation. He writes from a pre-mill Dispensational prospective yet he seriously interacts with the best exegetes of this significant book - even those who are a-mill and post-mill. He is committed to a grammatical-historical approach to interpretation and this drives his understanding of the book more than any particular system. While many will disagree with Dr. Thomas because of their millennial position, his work is well worth using because of his careful Greek and grammatical analysis of each verse. Where there is serious disagreement with a particular verse, phrase or word. Dr. Thomas gives the reader the pro's and con's of each view - fairly - and his reasons for his decision. Regardless of one's stand on the proper interpretation of the book of Revelation, this work will be very profitable for the serious student of the text. Agree or disagree with the author and you will still get more information about the text than from just about any other source. Few have written so well on behalf of this particular understanding of the book of Revelation.

Summary: A benchmark of literal/grammatical interpretation.
Review: Thomas has written one of the most thorough commentaries on the book of Revelation. This volume not only concentrates on the various facets of literal/grammatical interpretation but also delivers on the main discussions of each and every verse in the Apocalypse. Arguments of each discussion are logical and contain concrete citations. I highly recomend this volume to pastors, students, teachers, and ALL who are interested in understanding what Revelation says and why it says it!
