Rating: Summary: Theological Commentary for Preachers Review: It makes perfect sense to publish a comprehensive commentary on the Revised Common Lectionary. The surprise is that it has taken this long to appear. At long last the wait is over. Eerdmans, under the editorship of Roger E. Van Harn, a retired Reformed minister have produced this three volume set. As the subtitle suggests this is THEOLOGICAL exegesis of the lectionary, making it ideal for expository preaching. This commentary does not replace the need for regular critical commentaries but adequately compliments these, explaining the texts in their lectionary relationship. The authors are an ecumenical mix resulting in different approaches and emphases. The quality of work, however, is consistently good throughout the three volumes. No one who preaches through the RCL should go without this set. Those who do not follow the lectionary will still gain, but not as much.
