Rating: Summary: First steps into contemplation.. Review: I am only at the beginning of my journey into contemplative living. Sister Kathryn is a very capable guide and her book has provided me with a excellent primer as I take these first steps to contemplation. If you looking at Thelma Hall's TOO DEEP FOR WORDS or Michael Casey's book SACRED READING (both dealing with the discipline of Lectio Divina) start with Sister Kathryn's book first. It will give you an excellent foundation. May God bless you in your journey of faith.
Rating: Summary: Wide Range of Prayer Topics, Plus Simple and Light Tone Review: This book is, in my opinion, unique in comparison with the vast variety of other books on prayer - in that it covers a particularly wide range of topics, and yet manages to do this in a simple and light tone. It contains advice on how to quiet yourself and then continues with such topics as the practice of presence, lectio divina, the "dark night", the Cross, centering prayer, contemplation and other related topics. The author has included direction from Brother Lawrence, St. John of The Cross, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, Blessed Julian of Norwich, Thomas Merton and several others. There really is a great deal of information provided ! This is a book that I'll, many times in the future, refer back to!
