Review: This book, published annually, is simply the best book for Roman Catholic lectors that I have encountered. As a lector, I believe that it is important not only to practice the reading and delivery of each week's readings, but to understand their meaning in a larger context. This book serves as a virtual compendium of commentaries for each reading, highlighting the important factors surrounding the writers in their own day and time. This allows the lector to make a much more informed reading of the Word, where how you say something can be virtually as important as what you say. I hope that your parish provides this for you. If not, ask your parish council to consider doing so. But most importantly, if you are a lector, do not wait - get a copy for yourself and enjoy the amazing insight and positive, impactful difference it will make on your readings.
