Rating: Summary: Clear and Understandable! Review: In Pentecostal circles, Casey Treat is known for his witty, thorough and practical Bible teaching. "Renewing the Mind" takes Romans 12:2 into more than just exposition, it is practical teaching that will transform by taking the patterns of the pre-Christian life and teach how to move into solid Biblical living. Casey (in his teachings) has refered to these "patterns" regularly as "autopilot" (the patterns of living from the "old" man). The road to "overcoming" is detailed beautifully in this book, Paul defines that as "conforming" to the image of Christ Jesus. (My paraphrase, depending on what Bible translation(s) you prefer). This is not a man devised "techique", this is clear teaching from the Bible. The book details what happens after accepting Jesus as one's personal savior. The "myths" that one is "instantly" changed and "we live happily ever after" is dismissed instantly. When a man is saved his spirit is renewed, but the soul (mind, will and emotions) still gravitate to the old routine, a place many believers are stuck at because of either lack of teaching or an unwillingness to change, therefore they are professing one thing, but living another. This book is for the individual who wants to submit their mind, will and emotions to God's Word and let the Word and Spirit transform while that person is "taking off" old patterns while purposing to "putting on" new one's. All that said, this is what all Bible teaching should be, honest to goodness "practical". If you're accustomed to religious books that are a little on the dry side and not impact (too much "think tank" and the same old you, not that analysis is a bad thing!), this book may open your eyes. "Renewing the Mind" is not goofy, wierd or mystical. It's straight forward talk and straight forward teaching. "Everyone" allows "something" to permeate their thoughts and govern their "thought life", and as a result of what they meditate, think "on" or "about" and what's stored in their heart, it defines who they are.(Perhaps oversimplistic, but the principle is there). For clarity sake, I would like to see a definition of "faith", because of the unbiblical interpretations and misunderstanding concerning the principles of faith. I'm a fan of spelling these principles out because it tell you something about the author. The book offers good illustrations of "faith" but to use an example from a book I recently read, precision and accuracy aren't always the same thing. For example, the Bible says the devil is like a "roaring lion..." which is accurate and true simile, but the Bible also says he's a "liar, murderer etc." in different places, which is more precise than the simile. The definition of faith should just be spelled out to avoid confusion. I believe the author to be credible in character and teaching, but the word "faith" can conjour up some horrible images for some, there can be a tendency to look with a critcal eye and perhaps justifyably so. I don't like to say this, but this book is probably not for everyone. Godly teaching and skepticism have co-existed since recorded time, but if you are sincerely looking for answers on living a consecrated life, this is a great step in the right direction!
Rating: Summary: The answer that I have been seeking for ten years!!! Review: Words will never express how awesome this book has been for me. I give it 5 ***** because it has been confirmation to so many things I have questioned for most of my Christian life and in particular over the last ten years. Casey Treat has put it all in one place in a manner that I can read, meditate, research, rest, and eventually get the full understanding of who we truly are supposed to be as Christians. I am so thankful to know that there is more to being a saint than just accepting Jesus as my Lord and Savior. There is a life that we are supposed to be experiencing that will help the world see the true meaning of Christianity. If saints will be real with themselves, this world can truly be changed because those of us who profess to be Christians will change first. Us manifesting change will cause the world to see change and not just hear it via religion. I always knew the Word of God worked but I could never get the combination right and I would always hear within me that my heart was not right. My researching helped me to understand that the heart is the spirit and soul of a man. If your soul continues to be conformed to this world's way, yes you can be saved but you will continue to experience hell here on earth. That is exactly what I was experiencing but God in His infinite love directed me to a series by Creflo Dollar on renewing the mind and then this book by Casey Treat. The missing pieces have fallen in to place. To God be the glory for the great things that He has done in my life and for me!!! The book is the truth about us being tri-part beings, spirit, soul, and body. It sheds light on God's original plan for us and how that plan has not changed. It assists you in understanding where you are (if you truly desire to know), where God sees you, and how to get to the place and life that God sees you. It shows you how to change your world towards the victory that God ordained for each and every one of us. He is no respecter of person and this book takes you along the path to the fulfillment of the scripture that states you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free. It exposes the lies and the religion that has kept us bound for so long, and shows us how to manifest God's purpose in our life. I pray that this book opens your eyes to the true life that God has for you as it has for me. Thank you Casey Treat and Creflo Dollar for yielding to the Lord as His vessels.
