Summary: Objections fall apart.
Review: "Errors of fact." What would those be? "Fundamentalism, anti-semitism, bigotry. . ." Loaded terms that don't stand up to any degree of rational scrutiny. The fact is that not one person who negatively reviewed this book here (at the time I'm writing) bothered to give any remotely believable reasons that this book is not worthwhile.

Lest I give the wrong impression, let me say this. I have the book-it was given to me as a gift. And I do not think that it is absolutely perfect. I thought that it was odd, for example, that Dr. Brown assumed that all who live in Communist countries are atheists (p. 17, 4th paragraph). And his style of debating a phantom opponent grew tiresome. For those reasons and others I didn't give the book five stars. But for the most part I thought it was a good book.

Summary: Thank you, Michael L. Brown!
Review: As soon as I began reading the preface of this book, I knew I had found what I had been looking for the last 14 years--something to help me witness. Not just to my Jewish friends, but it has helped me with my own questions and those of other believers. This book has helped me finally become a Christian ready for meat instead of milk. Michael (I use his first name because I feel I know him now) writes as if he is talking to you, the reader. You can almost hear his voice. It's a personal journey. Anyone--Jewish or Gentile--with any questions about the deity of Christ, will find the answers here and in the next two books. My Sunday school class and I have been working through this first one for over a year now. (We took over a month just to get through the preface and introduction as each new line opened up new thoughts and questions.) Thank you, God, for helping this man be so strong.

Summary: A Must for Sensitive Interaction with Jewish People
Review: For any serious Christian who interacts with Jewish persons, this book is a must read. Michael Brown is a fascinating Jewish Christian scholar whose depth of research into the tough questions about Christianity and Jewry leaves the reader feeling educated and prepared. The author's style is interesting; he writes as though he is dialoguing with a Jewish skeptic of Jesus. The Gentile reader may feel a little left out or in the dark at first, but the insightful reader will eventually feel he or she is sitting in on a debate of the utmost importance. A Christian who knows little about Jewish people will be at times shocked and saddened over the treatment Jews have received over the centuries by so called "Christians", and at the same time fascinated by insight the author offers into how these issues may be heard and answered. This is the first of three volumes due to be released in the year 2000; this volume deals with general and historical objections to Jesus and Christianity. I cannot imagine reading the first without reading the others!

Summary: Worth reading if you are knowledgeable
Review: Full disclosure: I am a traditional Jew with both a yeshiva and university (graduate studies) background in Talmud and other ancient texts. The prior reviews of this book raised an eyebrow: are there new arguments that had not been used in the disputations that Medieval Jews were forced to participate? Are there facts or reasons that I have not considered? I was raised with the belief that one should always avoid dogma and pursue truth - regardless of the conseqences - and if Jesus was Divine then I want to see the evidence!

Well - now that I've seen what is apparently the best Messinanic arguments available, rest assured dear Reader that Brown fails to make the case. I'm not going to use this review as a debate platform so if you want to discuss with me please contact me offline (either via my book - the Art of Amazement - available here on Amazon or via daasbooks.com)

So 3 stars - read it only if you are as knowledgeable as Brown so that you can see the flaws. Otherwise you'll be mislead.

Summary: Something to use when sharing with Jewish friends
Review: I really don't remember if I have ever seen a book solely dedicated to evangelizing the Jews, but Michael Brown has provided this resource to us. This is the first of his three volumes, with the final volume being released in 2003. (Boy, I sure wish that we could have had the opportunity to buy one large combined volume; it's no fun trying to remember which of the three books where you saw something and then try to reference the point.) I plan on reading the other two volumes as well. Although there were some places where the writing is a little dry and hard to stay focused, overall I appreciated the questions that were raised and how Brown was able to answer them. I like the fact that Brown is a Jewish Christian, so while some of his brethren may not consider him to be a true "Jew," I think he probably has more authority than a typical "goyyim" like me! His sympathy of the Jewish mindset was very much appreciated. Overall, this book is an excellent resource and has found a place on my bookshelf. I will read the other two volumes and utilize Brown's arguments in the years to come.

Summary: A starting point
Review: Michael Brown effectively answers the many questions Jews have about the Christian faith. But this book is only the start of the journey. With it's excellent endnotes it gives you many other books to read through to gain a further understanding of the problems of evangelizing Jews. Another must read for any Christian is Michael's book "Our Hands are Stained With Blood". It is nearly impossible to speak to a Jew about Jesus without knowing what the so called church has done to the Jews throughout history. It also fills in a lot of the history that Michael covered in the historical part of the book. Once you read this first in the series you will want to read the second, it will help you in witnessing to Jews as well as Gentile.

Summary: A book ALL Christians should read!
Review: This book was the answer to a prayer. I prayed to God to give me a Jewish perspective before attempting to share the gospel with my Jewish friend, I went to the bookstore to find a book (thinking one did not exist), and this was the FIRST book I saw on the shelf. God does hear our prayers! Dr. Brown is a modern-day Apostle Paul, held up by God to be a light not only to the Jews but to Christians as well. I have read Christian apologetics for over 20 years, but always from a "gentile" or Christian perspective. Dr. Brown so richly gives us a Jewish perspective that is much needed by Christians today desiring to reach our Jewish friends. I believe it would be impossible for a Christian to read this book and NOT love Jews more that ever!
The reviewer who said that "nobody with a genuine belief likes to have someone else's belief shoved down his throat." I wonder why he read the book? Also, I find it interesting that Christians do not feel threatened at all by other religions but other religions feel threatened by Christianity. Why is that? Is it the power of Truth?
Also, I have read many antagonistic reviews of Dr. Brown's various books and they all have the same characteristics: 1) no cohesive, logical argument 2) emotionally-driven (anger) and 3) incoherency!
Thank you, Dr. Brown! Wish I could give this book 10 stars!!
