Summary: Biblical Wisdom from Harvard?s Chaplain
Review: I love to listen to and read sermons. I am moved not only by the language, but also by the ideas. I love to listen to a person who has struggled with a sustained effort to make words express ideas.

Peter Gomes brings clarity of thought to his profession. While I do not agree with everything he says, I appreciate his eloquence and insights. His words alternatively brace and sooth. He is provocative; he is comforting.

His sermons are a pleasant diversion to my daily struggles.

Summary: Wit and Wisdom
Review: This is the third book I've read by Peter Gomes, and as usual he provides his usual dose of wit and wisdom. However, since religion is such a sensitive topic, one needs an open mind to get the most from his sermons. I don't agree with everything he says, but at the very least, he challenges you to think in different ways about life, about God and about religion. But he is not hard to read or understand -- often, after reading something he wrote, I've thought, "gee, how obvious," although while it may have seemed obvious, I hadn't thought of it before! Reading his books has helped me get more in tune with my spiritual and religious side.
