Rating: Summary: The Very Best Book Available on this Topic Review: I've read several books on the historical development of the Catholic Church's liturgical year, and Adam's book is without peer. Well-written, clear, concise and thorough, it explains the evolution of the church seasons and individual feasts, solemnities and memorials. Special emphasis is placed on the liturgical reforms begun under Pius XII and completed by Vatical II. This book is not simply for the divinity school professor or student, but any person with an interest in this subject, even if s/he lacks any formal education in this area. (There's also a companion volume available with spiritual reflections by the author for the different church seasons and holydays.)
