Summary: A Must Read For All Women Not Matter Your Stage In Life
Review: Beside Every God Man is priceless! Through the eyes of Serita Jakes, the reader explores the different stages of a woman's life while examining the different influences that men have had on their lives and vice versa. This book offers solace as women single, married, divorced or widowed take a reality check about themselves and their interaction with the men in their lives. This book is interactive. It takes the reader on a journey of self-discovery of who we really are as mothers, daughters, sisters, and wives. It emphasis the importance women play in the lives of the men around them whether they are their boss at work or their brother or their husband. This book places God center stage as women consider how their relationship with God affects their ability to have whole, healthy relationships with men. The reader quickly learns that before your relationship with any man can be whole and healthy, your relationship with God must be secure. I suggest this book especially for single women. The pearls of wisdom that you glean from Serita Jakes will give you hope and encouragement as you wait patiently for your God intended mate.

Summary: A Mature Perspective
Review: First Lady has done a wonderful job in this book by helping us to discover the root to how we view and relate to men. She truly speaks to the heart of many single women through her candid acknowledgement of the fact that our desires for husbands are real and should not be dismissed by spiritual hogwash. She discusses how single ladies can be content in who they are, but not necessarily satisfied with not being married and validates these feelings. She anihilates the logic that many single women have been taught about needing to be more spiritual as a response to their desires for a mate. I praise God that she stepped up and addressed this issue. However, she discusses the full cycle of relationships from the single woman to the married woman, who must learn to adjust to different seasons that occur in marriage. The end of the chapter questions are excellent follow-ups to drive home the points that she discusses in each chapter. It's like getting the book and the workbook in one package. This book was certainly written by a full grown woman and provided a very weighty perspective on how we should relate to men as Godly women and it is very practical and realistic. A good companion book for this one is "The Power of Femininity" by Michelle McKinney Hammond. Between the two of them, they leave no stones unturned.

Summary: SEEKING GOD AND STANDING BESIDE YOUR MAN
Review: For the most part, I enjoyed the book and the lessons being taught along with the references to the Bile, but I felt the book was very repetitive in parts and it seemed more like a Bible-Study reference vs. an inspirational read. I think it will work well for those who are already secure in their positions in life (with God), but may seem a bit preachy to those who are hoping to become more spiritually grounded. Additionally, those looking for the "key" to making their relationships successful with the men in their lives may be a bit disappointed as the book focuses more on our relationship with God and the correlations between the Bible and to our mates.

In spite of this, there are numerous valuable lessons in the book, such as women looking for men to fulfill their deepest needs and complete them instead of going to God for the spiritual thirst that only He can quench, suggestions on being content with not having a man in our lives, and thinking that our worth is conditional upon another person.

Summary: Beside Every Good Man
Review: I enjoyed the writing style of Sister Jakes, and found her book an easy read. I did feel, however, that she spoke out of both sides of her mouth when approaching the position of the biblical design for a woman. I realize that she has a mixed audience to write to, but she could have presented a stronger foundation for what God desires for women. She does present it with a basic understanding of women’s biblical role, and should have been better read before writing this section of the book. With the audience she reaches with the book, the biblical pattern for the home would have reached these women with the truth of what the Word presents. She was overly cautious not to offend the married Christian woman with children by saying it’s alright to have a career, and I think she truly believes that. At the same time she would refer to God’s way as “old fashioned” when speaking of the keeper of the home. I believe Sister Jakes has been indoctrinated by feminist philosophy and has been deceived. If you are a Titus 2 woman, you may not want this book. If you are a career woman with children, this is for you!

Summary: Woman To Woman
Review: This book turned out to be better than what I was expecting. I like the part where she explains how she met and married Bishop Jakes.
