Summary: Superb book on Mormonism!
Review: As a former devout and temple worthy Mormon Elder, I was thrilled to find this book. The best book I've found on Mormonism that accurately and fairly represents their beliefs vs. biblical teachings...and I've read quite a few.

What I found so helpful is that the authors take you scripture by scripture, showing clearly and logically the accurate meaning of biblical passages while fairly presenting the Mormon interpretation/explanation as well.

For example, I'd always believed that the bible had somehow been "tampered" with over the years. And yet, the authors explain how there are nearly 24,000 (that's right...24,000) copies, fragments or quotes from other sources that verify the complete accuracy of what's written in our bibles today.Amazing! In other words, what our bibles say today is exactly and precisely what the prophets, Jesus and his apostles wrote thousands of years ago!

How sad for me, then, to discover that Mormon doctrine is a complete distortion of this, a dangerous "other" or "false" gospel to what Christ and his apostles actually preached.

Simply put, this book is an absolute must read for anyone investigating, questioning or otherwise wanting to know more about the Mormon church and it's completely unique teachings.

If you only buy one book on Mormonism, make it this book. You won't be disappointed. I just wish I'd found this book when it was first published in 1995...

Summary: Examines the Differences in Light of Scripture
Review: Ron Rhodes, author of many "Reasoning from the Scriptures" books has written a good book dealing with Mormonisms and specificaly, how to dialogue with Mormons. His first chapter, "Where Did Mormonism Come From" effectively deals with basic Mormons doctrine and the history of the Mormon Church; however, the chapter is a little scare and does not grasp the early mindset of the Mormon Church which largely effects the way they operate today.

His chapter on "Witnessing to Mormons" is helpful enough but the book's strength is when he deals with archaine Mormon doctrines like the Mormon's doctrine of God, pre-exsistence of man, their beliefs about Christ, and their view on slavation. These doctrines have no basis in scripture or historic Christianity. Thier entire basis is in the occultic or asserted revlatory claims of Joseph Smith, Brigham Young, and subsequent "prophets."

While Mormons are some of the nicests people one will ever meet, it is important to dialogue in a spirit of truth and understanding. "Debates" do not win converts, so I do wish Rhodes had a spent more time on his last chapter that dealt with evagelizing mormons. This chapter is only a couple of pages and lacks interests and depth.

Summary: A Must Needed Book!
Review: This book is a must need. Dr. Rhodes and Marian M. Bodine has backed up all their statements with quotes from leading Mormon leaders so the Mormons can't say what they are saying is not true.

This book has given me lots of quotes that are very helpful while witnessing to Mormons. I suggest that every Mormon get this book.

I also like how this book is layed out, with the Mormon teaching on a certain subject and then the Biblical teaching. It will give Bible verse, quotes, etc., to help you with your witnessing and your own Christian walk. This book is full of leading questions that every Mormon should be asked.

The last chapter of this book also includes the do's and don'ts of witnessing to cults by Dr. Walter Martin.

I liked this book so much I hope to get the rest of the resoning from scriptures series.

Summary: Ultimate Reference on Mormonism
Review: This is the ultimate reference book on Mormonism. It covers all the intricacies and is extremely detailed. I've read at least 10 Mormon analysis books and am pretty well versed in the subject. This book IS accurate, despite what some might say. But not all Mormons know in detail what their religion teaches.

And you really DO need a book to tell you what Mormons believe. They will NOT tell you what they believe because they have different definitions of generally accepted Christian words, so right away we're speaking a different language. Simple words -- like salvation, sin, heaven, eternal life -- have very differnt meanings under Mormonism.

Plus, they won't tell you some of their beliefs that sound crazy to Christians until they think you're "ready" for those. Before talking with Mormons (and I encourage you do to so) it is MANDITORY that you do some background reading. Otherwise, you'll be on a completely different page with your discussion.

Summary: Tremendous Resource
Review: Very tightly argued, well documented comparison of Mormon and Christian scriptures. Easy to use and understand. A good primer and a good reference book.
