Rating: Summary: Disappointed Review: A church friend had recommended Kay Aruther's book on how to study your bible. I read same and found the concepts interesting. So I ordered the new inductive bible and I was going to use same as my main mark up study bible using Kay's inductive techniques. I was currently studying 3 John so that was my starting book of study. I took out my highlighters and to my immediate dismay the highlighters bleed right through to the next page. I closed that bible up and put it on my shelf and went back to my regular bible that has pages that will not bleed. They should have charged a little bit more money and used pages that don't bleed through seeing that this seems to be one of the main reasons to purchase this bible. Gets lowest rating because of this fault.
Rating: Summary: Good study Bible, different approach Review: A different approach than most study Bibles, The New Inductive Study Bible provides a wealth of information but minimal interpretation. The purpose is to give you the materials and let you discover the truth for yourself. You won't find pages of doctrinally influenced information, but will find plenty of maps, charts, graphs, historical notes, detailed grammatical notes, illustrations, and a concordance. At the end of each book is an "At a Glance" page. You can fill in the chapter themes and other notes. The translation used is the updated New American Standard Bible. For a doctrinally neutral study Bible that can be recommended and used by any denomination very few rise to the level of this one. The New Inductive Study Bible is a highly recommended study Bible.
Rating: Summary: Superbly Presented Study Bible. Every Home Should Have One! Review: Everything about this product exudes quality. From the cover, binding, paper and presentation, everything radiates excellence.I have many "study Bibles", each of which I value on it's own merits and each providing individual characteristics which I find helpful in my studies of Scripture. Yet few, if any match this one on an overall basis. Although a relative stranger to the Updated New American Standard Translation, it is "growing on me" and I have been warmly surprised with it's accuracy in a number of areas. Most of my previous experience being among the NIV, KJV and NKJV translations. The text here is very clear, relatively large and extremely easy to read, It is presented in what is best described as a "single column text". The latter is a rare feature but in my experience it makes reference to the Scriptures far easier and facilitates study and reading. Alongside the text are some of the best margins that I have come across. The margins measuring approximately 1 3/4", are located on the outside of each page. Ideal for making personal notes and references. Each book of the Bible has it's own introduction and study guide amongst other references/features. A thorough concordance and "Helps" section are also included. There is even a section with advice on how to approach the interpretation of Biblical prophecy, as well as an outline on how to read through the entire Bible in one year. The colourful maps are plentiful and accurate in their historical reference. Up-to-date maps pertaining to the current time are also provided. It is so refreshing to see the correct terminology used on the maps. Gone are the inaccurate quotations of "Palestine in the time of Christ" etc., which are frequently used in some versions. (Palestine not existing at the `time of Christ' and only coming into fruition following the Roman changing of the Jewish nation's name into Syria Palestina around AD135. This eventually becoming "anglicised" into Palestine) A chronological history of the Jewish people and the nation of Israel is also provided, together with a study on the Tabernacle and the two Jewish Temples. The coloured graphics are superb. Numerous blank pages are also provided for your personal notes etc.. A section is also devoted to the "Major Events In Israel's History" with a time-line stemming from Adam/Abraham, the Exodus to the Birth Of Christ & the Destruction of Jerusalem (AD70 & AD132), including the renaming of Jerusalem to Aelia Capitolina by the occupying Roman forces etc.. Also covered are the occupations of the Holy Land by the Romans, Byzantines, Crusaders, Ayyubids, Mamluks, Muslims, Ottomans and the British. The British Mandate and the Arab-Israeli conflicts of the modern era are also mentioned together with a reference to the ongoing `peace process'. Appropriately there are no political observations, just relevant comments on these events and appropriate Scriptural references. There is no "Replacement Theology" in this excellent presentation, just Scriptural accuracy showing the true place of both the Jewish People and the Christian Church in God's Purposes & Plans. Although initially provided for use with the "inductive study system", (which is clearly outlined/described), I do not use that particular system, preferring to use this Bible as per my own personal method of study. Another reviewer has described this as perhaps "the last study Bible you'll ever need". It will certainly take some beating ! Highly recommended.

Rating: Summary: My Favorite Study Bible Review: I have loved and used annotated study bibles for years, including the Ryrie, Scofield, NIV Study Bible, Nelson Study Bible etc. I have greatly benefitted from the wisdom in these bibles, but I wanted to do more in-depth studies on my own using God's Word only. I wanted a nicely made bible with good references, concordance, maps, and wide margins for notes. The NISB in the NASB version meets all of these requirements, and then some!! The references are excellent and do not clutter the text. The print is easy on the eyes and formatted in the single column design, which makes note taking even easier. The concordance is very thorough for a study bible, and the maps are excellent. There are also study helps for inductive bible study that are just excellent and have made me a devout fan of this method. (I dont use all of the markings and colorings recommended, however, as this clutters the text too much) Many helpful historical but not doctrinal notes are scattered throughout the text and as a section in the back of the bible. These aid in self-study yet do not influence the results. The binding and pages are of average quality, nothing outstanding but not the worst, either. I would like to see smyth sewing and a little better quality paper, but these features may make the bible too pricey for most people. The NASB translation is relatively new to me, but I have found that it speaks to more more than any other version I have used. I appreciate the literal translation and footnotes.
I have been using a hard bond copy of this bible for some time and just recently bought a genuine leather copy as I never want to be without a copy. The induction method outlined in the bible has been a real blessing for me and I find the other features indispensable. I highly recommend this bible!
Rating: Summary: Caveat Emptor-Let the Buyer Beware. Review: I have used the original NASB Inductive Study Bible for some years in hardback format,so on seeing this new edition in the NASB Updated,I decided to give it a try. When it came I was disappointed to say the least. Yes the binding is a very nice quality genuine leather, but it is glue injected and not sewn,an absolute necessity for a well used Bible. When one uses a glue bound bible, it is not long before the pages start to come loose and fall out.Great care is needed when you try to lay the Bible flat on a table because the spine is subject to cracking or splitting. This edition is also much smaller in format than the previous one, no doubt to cut costs rather than offer any advantage to the purchaser. When are consumers going to learn that they are being had over by Publishers who have started to produce lesser quality Bibles and are charging them much more for the privilege? Time was when sewn bindings were the rule rather than the exception. And at this price , sewn bindings should be the norm rather than the exception. It would seem that Christian Publishers are not very much different from their secular counterparts afterall.
Rating: Summary: Great study Bible...just ignore the biased commentary Review: I love studying with this Bible. It's great to have so much room to make notes in the margin. There are excellent maps, charts, and relevant historical tidbits peppered throughout the text. If you buy this Bible on these strengths alone, you won't be disappointed. However, I find it troubling -- if not hypocritical -- how I am in one breath told that, "You may have been taught a system of beliefs before you ever studied God's Word for yourself. Or you may have formed opinions of what the Bible teaches before you carefully examined the Scriptures." and encouraged to study the Word for myself (the whole point if the inductive study approach), and in the next breath I am told that, "Jesus took the book of Genesis at face value...are you going to take God's Word at face value and believe as Jesus did? Are you going to listen to the philosophies of men with finite minds who critique God and His Word, or are you going to accept the Bible as the Word of God and then think and live accordingly?" Wait a second...I thought I was supposed to "Discover what it means" for myself. If that is so, why are you shoving Young-Earth Creationism down my throat on the first page of Genesis, before I've even begun reading? Why are you telling me that the serpent is Satan, even though Genesis doesn't ever say that? Am I not supposed to arrive at that on my own through further reading? I highly recommend this Bible simply on the basis of its excellent historical facts and easy to use personal study layout. However, I recommend that you completely ignore their commentary and attempts to "lead" you into believing the way that the authors of the commentary do. Instead, take their claim that God's Word will reveal itself to you seriously, and let The Word speak for itself.

Rating: Summary: Blessed by the Word Review: I took an exegesis course that used Living by the Book by Howard Hendricks as its textbook. This Bible came as close as I could find to the study bible he recommended. This has large, wide margins for note taking and reminders in the front of how to mark sections for quick reference later. Many Bibles use thin pages that bleed through, so we use colored pencils or Bible marking pens and pencils. I use this Bible often in sermon preparation because I can seek out the Word as it pertains to my experiences for a great starting point from which I can dig further with helps. Also, I use this Bible for our family Bible study time teaching my children how to study the Bible for themselves through inductive study. We each have one now and my children love the activities of marking the sections. They remember the Word better too! I honestly can not speak highly enough of this New Inductive Study Bible!
Rating: Summary: Now you can really learn! Review: I've owned the NISB for about a year now, and I'm quite pleased.
PROS: (1) The inductive method used by Kay Arthur (who designed this Bible) is essentially the same basics of exegesis you'd learn in seminary. If you don't know how to study the Bible based on solid observation of the text, you're prone to make errors. (2) The Updated NASB text is great for study, as it provides consistent translation of original words and preserves the grammatical structures necessary for following the flow of the author's thought. (3) The large, dark print is easy to read for long durations of time. (4) Wide margins! (5) Arthur's pre-book study tips and the "book at a glance" tables are helpful in guiding both observation and application. (6) The reference system and translator's notes are chock-full. (7) The timeline of events in the history of Israel is unique and provides useful information (up through the 20th century). Arthur's OT focus is evident.
CONS: (1) The words of Christ aren't in red lettering, but then again, this isn't normally a find-it-quick Bible; it's for studying passages in depth. (2) The standard NASB concordance in the back is weak at best. But then again, Arthur recommends that you purchase an exhaustive concordance anyway. Buy the Zondervan NASB Exhaustive Concordance. You will not regret it! (3) It's big and thick. Period. A thinner NASB reference Bible may be a better choice if you're taking this on the go alot. (4) I'd like to see an ESV version of this released soon. It's basically as literal and accurate as the NASB, but it's a bit more readable and elegant.
I also recommend Kay Arthur's "How to Study the Bible" guide. It's an expanded version of the inductive method outlined in this Bible.
