Summary: Awesome read!
Review: After reading Raney's A Vow to Cherish, I just had to read this one. The writing is as enthralling as the story idea. I couldn't put the book down, and it's one I've passed on to friends and family as a "you have to read this book" loaner. I laughed and cried as the heroine experienced a myriad of emotions throughout. I'm definitely buying her next book!

Summary: Captivating Love Story
Review: An excellent and poignant story! I read this on my summer vacation and didn't want to do anything else until I had finished Beneath a Southern Sky. I kept raving about it to my friends who then fought over being the next one to get this enthralling book. It is a must read IF you want a realistic portrayal of what happens when very good Christians fail to seek the counsel of God. Get ready to laugh, to learn and to cry.

Summary: Moving and Inspriational
Review: Beneath A Sounthern Sky was a marvelous book. Not only was it written well, the plot was a difficult one where it seemed no one could win, yet Deborah Raney pulled it off. Having lived on the mission field I sypathized with the characters feelings and struggles and also found most every aspect of the story quite believable.
I want to give Deborah credit for tackling a very difficult subject and yet giving the reader something to take with them, something to enjoy, and Ultimately something to learn.
You will probably want to yell at the character for her bad choices and definitely want to cry because of the effect those choices have on the people she loves but you will not be sorry when you read this book.

Summary: Complex
Review: Beneath a Southern Sky has an intriguing and complicated conflict. Raney's knack with realism burnishes through character portrayal and raw emotions. Though not for the lighthearted - a story of painful, sacrificial love - it's a book I can't easily forget.

Summary: RITA Award winner for a reason!
Review: Beneath a Southern Sky is one of my all time favorite books. The writing flows, the plot is gripping, the emotions are authentic to the core, and the characters are still "people" I think about. No wonder this book won the coveted RITA award! Raney is a master at touching the heart and giving hope in the midst of impossibly difficult circumstances.

Summary: A Moving Story of Love and Consequences
Review: Daria Camfield is living her dream. "Beneath a Southern Sky" of South America she works as a missionary alongside her beloved husband, Nathan. Nate longs to reach the Timoné people for Christ, and Daria is learning to share his passion.

But when Nate goes off to help the people of a neighboring village, Daria waits in vain for his return. After a lengthy search, Nate is presumed dead. Daria returns to the States to mourn, carrying Nathan's child.

Enter veterinarian Colson Hunter. During the mending of Daria's heart, Cole provides the listening ear Daria needs. But can she ever love again? Is marrying Cole what God wants her to do?

In "Beneath a Southern Sky," author Deborah Raney captures the essence of Daria's grief, making the reader feel a part of the story. We care what happens to these people, and in the end, when choices beget agonizing consequences, we see the hand of God reach out and touch our spirit, giving us a glimpse of His character through the lives of Daria, Nathan and Cole.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book because it reminded me how important it is to consult the Lord in every decision of our lives. Some choices we make can't be undone. Some consequences are beyond remedy in this life. "Beneath a Southern Sky" is a poignant reminder of it all.

Summary: Moving, REAL story with REAL hope
Review: Deb Raney has delivered again. This time, she's brought us to the jungles of South America where I can feel the humidity and the rain dripping through the trees, can smell the cookfires burning. The story of a missionary woman sacrificing and struggling, finding new hope and then facing the hardest decision of her life was gripping, and I couldn't put the book down. Fiction is supposed to make us FEEL and life ISN'T easy, but Deb Raney points us to the hope we have for God to heal hearts, even when we make bad decisions. As a missionary, I know the struggles, and Raney nailed every single emotion. Yes, this book is a tear-jerker, but the parallel to Christ's sacrifice on the cross can't be missed and is understood in a fresh way that brings it closer to the heart. Bravo Deb Raney for not shying away from hard stories, and for giving us a picture of true love. I can't wait to read the sequel!
