Rating: Summary: Promising story but-- Review: An interesting beginning to what is apparently a series, but too many stereotypes. Dark is too dark, light too light. Good guys (mostly women) are "perfect," while the bad guys (mostly men) are recognizable from countless other novels. I felt that no particular character was ever really fleshed out. Didn't get to know any of them as well as I needed to get drawn into the story. Yet there are times when real promise shows. Since these authors seem to have written many other books, maybe they'll still hit their stride as the series progresses. On the plus side also is the fact that it's a light, entertaining read that moves quickly.
Rating: Summary: City of Angels Review: City of Angels by Shannon Saga is not only a well written book, but very enjoyable. Saga did a superb job of combining spiritual with practical. The basic plot line was the protagonist, Kathleen (Kit) Shannon loses her father at a young age, but is left with his spiritual beliefs and he will to carry those beliefs on. After going through tough schooling, including law school, in New York City, Kit decides to move to Los Angeles. Her aunt who considers reputation to be one of the most important aspects of life takes her in. Kit, wanting only to follow God's word and become a lawyer is eventually kicked out of her aunt's house for such a ridiculous dream. Because of her strong will Kit finally accomplishes her dreams. City of Angels is a very inspiring book with the message of "I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me." Saga repeatedly gave Kit hard obstacles to conquer, but time and time again Kit turns to God and defeats those same obstacles. Using a simple, but educated style, Saga explains the cruelty of life, as well as in the courtroom. Though Saga doesn't use many devices, she does used imagery throughout the novel to give the reader a sense of the time period. Saga also does a good job of developing her characters. Overall, the novel was well written and had a great underlying message of never give up and trust in God.

Rating: Summary: City of Angels By: Tracie Peterson & James Scott Bell Review: City of Angels was a wonderful book. It shows how if you really want something and you go for it you might just achieve your goals. Its a great book that leaves you at the edge your seat throughout the whole entire book. Peterson and Bell had a wonderful way of making sly and spontanious remarks. I would gladly read another book by this duo.
Rating: Summary: Interesting and Inspiring! Review: Finally, just what Christian fiction needed...a fresh time period (no more Christian "Westerns"), an intriguing story, and a REAL woman!!! Wow...what a rare combination. In 1903, Kit Shannon decides to move to Los Angeles, the one place she figures she might have a chance at living her dream of being a lawyer. Things are harder than she ever imagined...her Aunt Fredrica worries that Kit's less-than-conventional career will ruin her social life in the city, and Kit's having trouble finding an employer. But worst of all, she's suddenly forced to help in a murder trial...a trial where a man who has become a friend of hers seems guilty of murder. From the beginning of this book, I was inspired by Kit's deep faith in God and strong personality. I loved how she wasn't sickeningly perfect and was a real person we could all relate to and be inspired by. It was also wonderful that this was a Christian book about something OTHER than a woman finding "Mr. Right" and really showed a woman making a difference and NOT just being "in love." Last, but certainly not least, I appreciated how you could enjoy this book without knowing much about court proceedings. This well written book with a strong main character is a must-read!
Rating: Summary: I enjoyed this book Review: I felt like I was reading a Christian based Grisham. This book had intrigue, suspense and Christian morals. It was refreshing to read an exciting book with an important lesson about faith. This was my first time to read either of these authors. I am anxious to read other works by them. I am also anxious for a Shannon Saga 2.
Rating: Summary: Great Look at History Review: I liked this book. I thought it was well-written and had plenty of real history woven in. I thought it was interesting that I had actually walked on some of the same streets that her characters were on--only about 100 years later! The story line was good--about the only thing that bothered me--not much--but some, was that it seemed like Kit was constantly quoting scripture or God's message. I realize that is an important trait to her, but it seemed like she based her relationships on that fact alone. That meant that I wasn't able to get as in touch with her as I have been able to connect with other of Tracie Peterson's characters (Grace in the Yukon stories, for example). All in all, I liked this story--especially the character of John Barrymore. Just another real history facet thrown in, but he supplied a much needed comic relief to the story. I highly recommend this book, but make sure you read her "Yukon" stories as well.

Rating: Summary: Great Christian Book! Review: I love Tracie Peterson but with James Scott Bell, something happens. I couldn't lay it down. Just had to finish it before anything else got done. Great insight into the Courts at the turn of the 20th century. Can't wait to read the others in the saga.
Rating: Summary: Fresh and Intriguing! Review: I loved Kit Shannon! She immediately captivated me with her spunk and determination. The time period was fresh and new to me as well and the legal side of life in that era was intriguing. This was a new type of story for me and one I'll read over again and share with my friends. I'm eagerly awaiting the next book in the series!
