Summary: Just the facts, a good objective overview
Review: 'Bigfoot', the very word brings forward an image of a hundred grainy snapshots of men bumbling around in monkey suits, blatantly faked foodprints and a thousand lurid stories ususally found in the Enquirer. So any reputable scientist generally can dismiss the whole thing as summer sunshine. But the vexing problem is there has been credible sights of 'something' in the woods that are none of the above things. Mr Coleman does an excellent job of presenting 'facts' not opinions not theories. He lays out the evidence, both pro and con and lets the reader decide. This book is as good as it gets for objective and rational analysis of what evidence there really is out there.

Summary: Hominds and logic...the rational view
Review: 'Bigfoot', the very word brings forward an image of a hundred grainy snapshots of men bumbling around in monkey suits, blatantly faked footprints and a thousand lurid stories ususally found in 'the Enquirer'. So any reputable scientist generally can dismiss the whole thing as summer sunshine. I was a skeptic myself before I read this book. But the vexing problem is there has been credible sights of 'something' in the woods that are none of the above things. Credible people seeing incredible things. So what is this all about?
'Hominds' have been sighted repeatedly in every state in the US and the provinces of Canada. There are the ubiquitous footprints, snapshots, movie film, (...)matter, nests as well as the numerous visual sightings. There have also, unfortunately, been enough fakes scams fabrications and hoaxes to frustrate even the most objectively minded reader.
Loren Coleman is a noted investigator and cyptobiologist. He objectively reviews the truly mysterious cases (there are more then the average reader might think) as well as the 'tainted' cases and even the (...)evidence. There is a logical breakdown and classification of the different 'groups'(species) of the hominds with examples of sightings. This book is well researched yet very readable for the layman.
I will freely admit that I don't quite know what to think of "Bigfoot" but this book has convinced me that there is a distinct possibility that such a creature or creatures could still exist. Mr Coleman argues a good case here and I would recommend this book to the objective reader.

Summary: Not for the Birds
Review: As the editor of this book, I feel I should point out that most of this book's 288 pages concerns Bigfoot and the people passionately interested in this creature. A previous reader's admittedly "minor quibble" pointing out an error on one page about what "ruffed grouse sounds like" is a poor reason to dock two stars from a book review. Coleman's work is the best book available on Bigfoot both for people who know very little about the subject and for "insiders" looking for insights into the mystery from one of the field's most active investigators.

Summary: A SUPERB CONTEMPORARY ANALYSIS!
Review: Coleman does a fine job of analyzing the Bigfoot lore by contrasting both the current findings with the "classics". By far one of the best contemporary books on the mystery out there! Covers all the bases any enthusiast needs for any reference.

Summary: Wow! Great book
Review: Everything you ever wanted to know about America's numero uno mystery creature is right here. It's a personal, well organized overview, from its history to the present day. Should answer just about any question you might have on the subject. Easily the best book I've read on the subject.

Summary: Bigfoot! : The True Story of Apes in America
Review: For the hardcore researcher or the week end Bigfoot fan, this book is certainly the motherload! In my 40 some years of collecting books about cryptids, no one has come along quite like Loren Coleman. His style of writing is clear and even laced with a sense of humor on occasion. Mr. Coleman is second to none in how he gathers data and archives it into the wonderful books he writes. This one is no different in that it is the Bigfoot Bible.

While a few of the case studies have been written about before, Mr. Coleman has a much more vivid and easy moving style than ever before seen in their coverage. It's also interesting to see reports previously not addressed anywhere. It feels like he is actually talking with the reader rather than at them. There are only so many Bigfoot cases to cover and Mr. Coleman doesn't invent new ones in an attempt to be sensational. For those who want new pretend Bigfoot stories, I would suggest the National Enquirer or the internet.

Those who have never read Mr. Coleman's works will find this book to be the perfect jumping in point. A lifetime of passion and research shine through and there is a little bit of that magic feeling on every page: that feeling that brings out the awe of childhood. This book is perfectly orchestrated by Mr. Coleman in it's balance of hard facts and the presentation of a truly great sense of wonder. If given a choice of only one book on Bigfoot, this is clearly the hands down one I'd pick.

Summary: A comprehensive work by the subject's preeminent author.
Review: Having read Loren Coleman's other works I eagerly anticipated the release of this one and I was not disappointed. Loren outlines the subject very appropriately and uses historical accounts mixed in with his own voluminous research to create a very readable and authoratative work on the subject of "Apes in America".

This book is a must have for any cryptozoology/hominology buff. You won't be disappointed.

Summary: Bravo Bigfoot!
Review: I have always counted on Loren Coleman to produce credible, well-researched books on Fortean topics. His Bigfoot! The True Story of Apes in America is a significant contribution to the literature about what may well be our most vexing enigma: Can a race of giant apes be living among us? No matter how you feel, this book will alter your perceptions. As always, Mr. Coleman dares to venture into areas avoided by other writers. Here he even considers the sexuality of these alleged creatures. Bigfoot! Is an excellent study all around. Fun to read, full of fascinating facts, and ultimately thought-provoking. Indispensable.

Summary: The Best Bigfoot Book Ever!
Review: I have had the pleasure of hearing Loren Coleman speak as well as reading several of his books. "Bigfoot" is an excellent survey and traces in an objective and entertaining manner the history and lore of Bigfoot from the Native American accounts to the modern era. He details all the major encounters. Especially interesting is his account of the Roger Patterson film and its authenticity. Loren Coleman in my opinion is the world's leading authority on Bigfoot and this book as well as his others are well worth reading!

Summary: Worst Bigfoot Book Ever
Review: I know this man and I know his research.
His book is mainly about what OTHER people did, or claimed to do.
He does little or no research in the field in person. He is not open minded and holds a pre-set opinion about what Bigfoot is.

Do not buy this book. Get Thom Powell or Peter Guttilla, even the Weekly World News is better
