Summary: The Handbook For Our Childrens Education And The Future
Review: If you live in the USA and have or are planning to have children you must read this book. This is the best book I have ever read. Cloning of the American Mind is about education and how it has and is being systematically destroyed. It is a smart book which provides practical advice on how to deal with what is happening today. Today education is not about teaching but about social engineering by the state and the objective of this erosion is the selling of the dangerous Workforce 2000/Outcome Based Education/Goals 2000 and beyond. The author thoroughly explains what has happened what is going to happen and what we can do. The behavioral sciences of psychiatry and psychology are among the players so is the National Teachers Association among others which she names to create an illiteracy cartel(follow the $). In 1952 there were 112 disabilities in 1994 there were 374 and growing.Learn about Ritalin and ADD being a marker for schizophrenia. Testing your children to determine beliefs and information about their family and she names who has access to the data. She covers the belief systems of Marx, Stalin and Hitler and how they are tied to this and how the same manuals from those are used today by so called educators to force their beliefs. How the state is achieving its goals of taking over the raising of our children. How individualism is not encouraged and group think is. How good books in school are tossed out and bad ones brought in. How to deal with professional agents of change locally and not take the bait. How homosexual groups work with script writers to promote homosexuality in television and film. Why it is important to keep federal $ out of our schools and more. Beverly Eakman has done a truly amazing job and she names publications and provides facts and reference for everything she writes. Cheers!

Summary: More than just about Education
Review: Mrs. Eakman's book is an excellent overview of various psychological schools of thought that have done more than almost any other discipline to adversely effect the modern age. As Mrs. Eakman points out, it is no accident that psychology and politics have come together in order to discover ways to manipulate attitudes, beliefs, and behaviours on a mass scale. While her book is meant to describe the ways in which psychological based curriculum, coupled with electronic data retrieval systems on the part of the State have created psychological profiling and attitude readjustment programs for all school-aged children, her book really out to be read as an expose of more sinister agendas and programs undertaken by governments in this century. The most interesting sections of the book are the ones that connect the development of 19th century materialist atheistic psychologies and 20th century totalitarian politics: the career paths of Nazi and Soviet psychologists crossing with that of such influential Foundations as the Ford and Carnegie Foundations, together with psychological programs emerging out of the Intelligence community after the War, is particulary disturbing. Mrs. Eakman connects the dots, pointing out how a particular person started off in Intelligence, made his way into academia, only to find his way to the corporate world or the media. The only draw back of her book is the absence in many places of detailed footnotes and citing of sources. However, for anyone who has actually read Kurt Lewin or Frankfurt School luminaries, it isn't hard to believe her claims. Additionally, Mrs. Eakman sometimes confuses personages and history: when refering to Dr. Albert Hoffman, the Swiss chemist who developed LSD, she claims he later became a counterculture icon known as Albert 'Abbie' Hoffman -- almost suggesting that Abbie Hoffman of the Sixties and Dr. Albert Hoffman are one and the same. She is also out of her element when discussing philosophers and leading intellectuals. At one point she claims that in Bertrand Russell in his writings about 'a certain educator, Johann Fichte' -- not realizing that Fichte was a Neo-Kantian German philosopher of the earlier 19th century. There are other snafus like these here and there but these can be easily forgiven in light of her insightful analyses and herioc overview of 20th century psychology. To some, Mrs. Eakman's book may sound like 'wacky' conspiracy theories. However, there are a number of so-called mainstream books and publications that have made the same accusations that Mrs. Eakman does and have provided histories of psychological warfare. For the skeptical, try reading Christopher Simpson's book -- published by Oxford Press.

Summary: Warning for parents on school "committees"
Review: Part IV of this book should be read by anyone who has ever sat on a school committee or is thinking about it. Even more urgently, it should be read by all members of all school boards which are being told that some recommendation or another was developed by a teacher or parent-teacher committee.

I participated in two committees like this in our local public school, and found that the whole process was deliberately manipulated to cultivate an intended results, while suppressing dissent or discussion.

Eakman warns that such "rigged consensus building" thwarts opposition or original thinking, while enshrining and preserving the status quo. It is a powerful tool for manipulating public opinion in such a way to gain apparent approval for dubious management directions.

These manipulative techniques are both employed with, and taught to, students in ed schools. By the time that someone leaves ed school with administration credentials, they are well-trained to set up the same dangerous practices in the districts where they are employed.

Summary: RARE INSIGHT INTO THE SCHOLL CRISIS WITH ACTION YOU CAN TAKE
Review: This book is both prophetic and remedial. In this age of word inflation, superlatives seem inadequate in describing the value of this remarkable treatise. Few people are aware that Columbine HS in Littleton, CO is one of the very first schools to experiment with the dangerous practices exposed in Mrs. Eakman's Book. I have official tapes of the debate at Littleton from ca. 1988 where parents who were fearful of their values being undermined by "Outcomes Based Education / Workforce 2000" were simply blown off. By the mid 1990's the illiteracy cartel won, and the rest is history. "Cloning of the American Mind" anticipates the implosion of such schools, even though it was written about 1 year before the Columbine tragedy. The family is under attack through the schools, and the schools are under attack through a myriad of special interest groups. In particular, an out-of-control psychographics industry is described, whose function is to provide access to our children for such purposes as industrial exploitation, marketing research, political manipulation, coercion of conscience, family meddling, psychological profiling and, perhaps most frightening, profiling the private lives of their families. This is done, of course, at the expense of academic studies, while all the time being labeled as "achievement". The author generously provides an historical and documentary basis for her findings. It is also enjoyable to find an author whose demeanor is engaging and down-to-earth, with reminders of key points gently brought to mind at strategic points in the development. The closing sections provide remedial coaching on how to spot and deal with third-party "agents-of-change" visiting your school board, and how to reverse their horrifying agenda at the local level. Concerned citizens of Dothan, Alabama, cited this book to help guide themselves out of a social and educational catastrophe. There are many fine books today chronicling the assault on the family and education. "Cloning of the American Mind" is comprehensive, exhaustive and indispensable. Review: This book should be on the "must read" list for anyone wanting to know more about the current sad state of affairs in not only public education but, in society in general. This book is well documented and extremely in-depth. It is a fantastic companion book to "The Underground History of American Education" by John Taylor Gatto. These two books, taken together, will give parents the necessary information to oversee the real education of their children.

Summary: This book is a Scientology Propaganda Piece 100%
Review: This is an absolutely terrifying book, and makes the thoughtful reader fear for the future of the country. It makes me glad I homeschool. It is well-documented and comprehensive, so much so that it can be difficult to read at times and needs to be digested in chunks.

My only complaint about the book - and I realize that I am a bit of a "grammar snob" :) - is that it is marred by ubiquitous grammar and punctuation errors - misplaced commas, mismatched tenses, poor sentence structure, etc. I don't know if Ms. Eakman is just a poor writer, or if her editor was asleep on the job, or if the book was rushed into print before it was adequately proofread. However, it would literally be difficult to find a single page without a blatant punctuation error, a really awkward sentence structure, or some grammatical goof. This is ironic - and disappointing - in a book about the quality of education.

That said, I would still wholeheartedly recommend it for anyone interested in the roots and direction of modern elementary and secondary school curricula.
