Summary: I Confess!
Review: I'm so shallow, I admit it. I'd heard great things about Brandilyn Collins and liked this book's title, but the cover threw me off. (Don't ask, just a personal thing, I guess.) Overcoming my doubts, I picked up "Brink of Death" and realized I'd been missing out on quite a treat.

The story follows a single mother thrown into a threatening situation. Not only must she deal with her doubts as a mother and ex-wife, she must also deal with her father's legacy and the secrets he protected. The secrets refuse to lie dormant, so that soon she is forced to confront a deadly foe.

Collins tells of believable characters in mysterious and threatening situations. She doesn't shy from violence, but it's never gratuitous. She gives spiritual truth without hitting us over the head with it. I was on the edge of my seat more than once.

My friends were right about Collins' books. I've already added her next in the series to my wish list.

Summary: I forgot to breathe
Review: I've never thought that the suspense stories I've read were good enough to cause me to shiver, until I picked up Brandilyn's Brink of Death. The only thing that kept me from jumping ahead to see if her heroine would be OK was the author's perfect pacing. Once I read the prologue, I was thoroughly hooked. I have to say, by the end of the story, not one bit disappointed, either.

Summary: Cornwell and Johansen fans will love this one.
Review: Nightmares come to life when a young girl wakes in the night, and sensing danger, goes in search of her mother, only to meet an intruder and witness her mother's murder. Arriving police alert the neighbors to trouble, including Annie Kingston and her daughter. Annie becomes part of the case when her closeness to the surviving daughter and her talent as a court room artist give her the ability to help put together a composite of the intruder. When she does, horror and shock come with the realization that her friend died in her place; that her home was the true target. Amidst all the suspense and mystery, Annie wrestles with issues of faith. Her friend loved God, but where was He when she needed Him. How could this happen?

*** Gripping suspense makes the plot move rapidly. Fans of Patricia Cornwall or Iris Johansen may find this a Christian alternative with the forensic detals contributing to the suspense. Annie's questions about faith and theodacy are very relevant to today. However, shifting points of view might be hard to follow if you are not paying attention. ***Amanda Killgore

Summary: Breathtaking!
Review: Once again, Brandilyn Collins has written a book I couldn't put down. Brink of Death made my heart race from page one.

The story of Annie Kingston is one that will stay with me for a while. She is one of those rare characters who is so well-written, I feel like I've just been through the story with her. And what a story it was! Brandilyn is a master of suspense. The twists and turns left me scared to turn the page! And yet, Annie is a mom with worries about her children, with real faith struggles and quesions. It made me root for her all the more.

Annie is a heroine worthy of this excellent story. I can't wait for book 2!

Summary: Gripping
Review: This is one of the most wonderfully crafted suspense novels that I have read in a while. It kept me up until the wee hours of the morning and then I slept with my night light on.
She handled Annie's spiritual conflict masterfully.
And the suspense didn't let up, you will find yourself holding your breath. I couldn't put it down.
I highly recommend this book and I am anxiously awaiting the next in the series. The characters are great and I look forward to seeing them again.

Summary: Can't wait for the next in the series!
Review: This was the first book I read by Brandilyn Collins and I loved it! I enjoy mysteries and suspense, and this one keeps you on the edge of your seat! I did feel, however, that it might be a bit too intense for young teens or "sensitive readers". With that one caveat, however, I heartily recommend it! "Stain of Guilt", also featuring heroine Annie Kingston, comes out in October of 2004, so look for it!

Please check out my other reviews for other great Christian fiction titles! Happy reading and God Bless you!

Summary: BE PREPARED TO READ THROUGH THE END!
Review: When Annie Kingston moves her children away from the big city and it's temptations to the small community of Grove Landing, she expects to find peace and quiet. Her haven is not the paradise she anticipated.

When Annie is awakened late one night by the flashing lights of emergency vehicles, she realizes something dark has come to Grove Landing. The murder of her neighbor, Lisa Willit, has left everyone in the neighborhood stunned. The only witness, Lisa's twelve-year-old daughter, Erin is too distraught to describe the intruder.

Annie is asked by the desperate detectives to use her courtroom sketch artist skills to aid in the investigation. She doubts her ability to accurately detail the intruder from Erin's description and struggles with what her lack of experience could do to the investigation. For the first time in her life, she has no choice but to ask God for help.

As she becomes more involved in the case, her discoveries bring her closer to the realization that she and her family may be in real danger. If the face she has drawn is not the killer, then the real intruder may be back to finish what he started....

Readers of suspense will enjoy the edge-of-your-seat opening, middle, and ending that calls for Ms. Collins' reminder: "Remember to Breathe".

Surprising twists and turn will keep you up until the wee hours of the morning. Don't start reading this book after dark and definitely don't read it ALONE! Thanks, Brandilyn, for another winner! I am anxiously awaiting the second in the series as my fingernails grow back - just in time to chew them all off again, I'm sure.

Summary: Breathing is optional with this book
Review: You don't have time to catch your breath with the suspense jacked up so high. Erin's first nightime sounds draw you into a web of mystery and twists. Who could do such a thing? Keeping reading if you dare.
