Rating: Summary: What a wonderful treat! Review: I just finished Book 1 in this series and am thankful I happened upon it at my family christian book store! This book made me feel so warm and happy. I read it to and from my daughter's summer camp in the mountains. I finished it while sitting on the balcony of Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge on July 5th during a light summer rain. What a wonderful way to finish such a special book! I can't tell you how much I loved this book. It brought me peace and joy, and I miss Caleb, pastor, and all the residents. I can't wait to start book 2 and am thrilled to discover that book 3 will be coming in January 2002! May this series go on forever!
Rating: Summary: Surprisingly wonderful! Review: I just finished HEAVENLY DAZE. And, now I still have "AUTUMN, etc" to look forward to. I had seen these for several weeks and wasn't sure if I wanted to take the chance in ordering them. (Some books like this are just "silly" and not really interesting.) WHAT A WONDERFUL SURPRISE I HAD IN STORE!!! And, before I was halfway through, I had already ordered a set of both for a friend.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Series - it grows on you Review: I've read all 5 books in the series. I enjoyed the first couple of books but as I read more of the books in the series, I liked the series more and more. You get to know the characters well and there is a lot of humor and wisdom throughout each book. My favorite books were the last two: A Perfect Love and Hearts At Home. I could relate to Barbara & Russell's struggle on trying to get pregnant and I just loved the surprise development with Annie's character. The angels provide lots of insight into the character of God and I've learned a lot from these books and eagerly await the next book. And the parts on the little dog Tallulah had me laughing. I thought it was a very cute addition to the book - I even read those couple of parts to my husband because it had me chuckling so much.
Rating: Summary: Disappointing Review: Maybe I was expecting too much, from all the great reviews it got, but I found The Island of Heavenly Daze (cute title) to be unsatisfying, disappointing, and extremely boring. By the end of the book the authors had made me care about...no one. I had no great interest in anyone's fate (no sequel for me), fears, hopes, dreams-though perhaps that is because no one really had many...The characters were rather flat, uninteresting, and extremely predictable--just like the "plot" twists. The plot is simple and the stock characters (aunt and estranged niece) flat (with the exception of the minister who worried about his lack of hair). It is yet another Jan Karon imitation that wasn't worth the time I spent reading it.
Rating: Summary: My Favorite! Review: My favorite books used to be the Mitford series books but Heavenly Daze has taken over first place. Looking forward to #5. Keep them coming.
Rating: Summary: You'll Wish This Place Really Existed! Review: Put on the comfortability of a Lori Copeland book, add the polish of an Angela Elwell Hunt story and you've got one dynamite pair of shoes! So slide on in and take the next ferry over to their picturesque, fun-filled Island of Heavenly Daze. You won't want to leave. Looking forward to the next book in the series!
Rating: Summary: Sweet & Charming Review: Reverend Winslow Waldo Wickman has just decided to spice up his image with a new toupe...Olympia de Cuvier still hasn't patched up her relationship with her botanist niece, Annie...and this is life on the small Maine island of Heavenly Daze. But things are not as they seem, for seven wonderful inhabitants on the island are really angels, who help the village in seemingly normal ways but find time to fix less-than-heavenly situations. Gently funny, cutely quirky, and filled with nuggets of wisdom..."The Island of Heavenly Daze" is a winner.
Rating: Summary: Cool Breezes and Warm Hearts Review: The Island of Heavenly Daze is an endearing book that places the reader on a small island off the coast of Maine. The characters are introduced in a way that leaves you wanting more. The Heavenly part of the island, and unknown to its inhabitants, are the seven men that live along side them who are angels sent from God to help them find their way. This book is the first of three and focuses on the beloved Reverend of the local church who has lost his way, and needs a bit of a nudge from one of our angels. After ten years with this small community he fears they want to replace him with some one younger. His baldness becomes a major issue and he decides he needs a toupee. The antics begin and the laughs are frequent. There is also a serious side to our community and story as an aunt and long lost niece need help finding their way back to each other. This book is similar to the Mitford Series by Jan Karon. Titled "The Heavenly Daze Series", the second book is titled GRACE IN AUTUMN, and the third is A WARMTH IN WINTER. Kelsana 2/8/02
Rating: Summary: Great Reading! Review: This book is Jan Karon, Garrison Keilor, and Touched By an Angel all in one book. Can't say how much I enjoyed this and am anxiously waiting for the next installment. A great way to spend a winter weekend.
Rating: Summary: Humour with a lot of love Review: This book really touched my heart. It was not only very humorous but the message of God's love and devotion to us gave me a feeling of hope and strength. This is a wonderful book for anyone that loves the Lord and loves to laugh. I can only hope that some day angels will be living in my home! Please, read this novel - I guarantee there is something wonderful in it for everyone.
