Rating: Summary: Great for ANYONE looking for more meaning to life Review: This book has opened my eyes to the ways of the old religion. I have always believed things to be different, but now, with this book, I know that others have felt the same way. You never know something until you try it. Try the lessons at the end of each chapter, they will change the way you view the earth. These pages actually SPEAK to you. I knew things after reading this book that I never read anywhere in the book. The author uses some kind of subliminal message in each chapter to help you understand. Truely worth the time to read this book.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic. A great way to be introduced to druidism Review: The 21 lessons of merlyn was the frist book i read on the subject and the best one i have ever seen for newbe's like my self. The book tells the story of arthor from boyhood(age 9) to him as a young adult(age 16), and of merlyns teachings to the future king. The book is presented in a form that makes it great for the person looking to become a druid, the person who is alread and just whant's to read more, or the person who is just looking for a well writen tale of Arthor. This is definitely a must buy for anyone with any intrest in the subject.
Rating: Summary: Neo-Druids beware Review: The type of druidry described in this book probably falls under the title "Mesopaganism" (for a definition visit the Bonewits website). It has some striking similarities to The British Circle of the Universal Bond or (B. C. U. B. ). The history that is described may or may not the accepted norm for today (and heck what history book has every "expert" agreeing with it)? It is however an excellent source for archetypal druidry (we all know that Robin Hood never met a Maid Marion a Will Scarlet or a Little John maybe he himself never existed but they are part of that story or archetype now) So neo-druids beware, this isn't YOUR druidry its something far more powerful compelling and old. If your looking for something full of modern ideals and fluffy bunny dreariness this book probably isn't for you, but if you want to get as close to the archetypal druid ways as you can get (short of timetravel) then I say THIS IS THE BOOK!!! Rating: Summary: Good storys Good Lessons Little conections between the two Review: The book is a good example of durid traditions and culture but as in the following book some of the other referances are very elusive(The Book of Pheryllt). It had a good story line and good introductory lessons but the storys didn't follow the outline of the lesson. Elsewise it is a good book on the era of arthur.
Rating: Summary: Whispers from the trees Review: Unfortunately their have been a lot of bad reviews about this wonderful book. Stop and look at who is most offended and vicious in their opposition to the book .The groups include the "Pseudo Celts" the "Hey my family has been practicing druid magick for a thousand years people" And the worst of the lot (and sadly so) the other "druid" org's. And we can see it from their view point. How dare he move onto their turf and tell things that they only tell their members AND teach practical magick that works. (Unfortunately most of these org's are of the "For only 19.95 you too can be a druid high priest" types.) But hey all of this sounds like another religious group that likes to slander its rivals...who do I speak of? why the Christian of course! I mean you practice and teach something I dont believe in so you must be wrong, right? To quote the author" Religions which insist that they alone possess the truth to the exclusion of all others, simply display their immaturity" But dont take my word for it the authors view of this is explained in detail on page 286 (First paragraph) I just dont care to write the whole thing here. As for it not being historically accurate who is to say what is the truth? The druids them selves seem not to have left any records and all "first hand" info is by contemporary authors who are quoting authors who are quoting authors and so on back to the Romans .(Who viewed Druidism as something horribly wrong!) It was once said that "History is five men in a (dark/locked) room deciding on a lie." So you read this book and then make up your own mind about it and dont listen to much to those of us who have. (Or haven't as the case may be) Because "To tell a man a spiritual truth his soul cannot comprehend is the same as to tell him a lie" So read it and then you decide if it is true for you and forget what anyone else thinks. When the student is ready the teacher will appear S. Rating: Summary: Excellent display of Celtic/Druidic Lore Review: Following a lengthy prologue which explains a great deal of the basics behind Celts, Druids the author follows through with spectacular scenes of the legend of Merlyn and his deciple Arthur (Who eventually becomes King Arthur of Britain. Throughout the chapters, each lesson tought to Arthur by Merlyn the author proceeds with a short apendix which includes a discussion in more detail on what actually occured during that time, in addition to the Rite(s) associated with the lesson. It makes for excellent reading which turns to be so gripping that it is hard to doubt any of the events that are mentioned throughout the chapters that follow the prologue. The content of the book is definately aimed at those who want to learn more about Druidism, Celts and especially of the relationship between Arthur and his mentor, Merlyn. I found that by reading the content I was definately awakened to a bigger picture of all-being and most definately learnt a great deal from my reading. It be my opinion that this is probably one of the best written books on Druid Magic & Lore. I honestly enjoyed every segment of the lessons brought forward, especially the last few chapters where magic capability is taken to quite some extreme. A definate for those interested in the history of Celtic religion, its decendants and the power of Magick, which to my surprise is very much alive.. even in these days.
Rating: Summary: A realization of truths. Review: It is very hard for modern Druids to decipher between fact and misinformation since most of the old sources have been lost. Though this book may be interpreted in different ways, the truth can always be found. This book gives clear information and methods for self-discovery and performing ancient rituals. The storyline helps in understanding directions, and keeps you interested in the book. The many charts are easy to follow and learn from. As always, the more you learn, the more you grow into a different person, shaped with wisdom and knowledge. This is not just another one of the useless books, and I fully recommend this to anyone who feels ready for an in-depth look of reality.
Rating: Summary: All the Gods are One Review: As a sociologist I found this book to be healthy. Anything (including this book) which helps a lost mind to discover itself I find to be useful. If this is how one wishes to create ones self, than so be it. The wise person would do good, as with any religion or rite of self-discovery, not base his or her life on one source. I would buy this book again. The stories and the methods are both exciting and inspiring. I especially enjoyed the Great Hunt story and cannot wait until I have the time to try such an insightful event myself.
Rating: Summary: TRUE MAGICK IN A SANE MANNER!! Review: I have been a "magician" for all of my life. But through all of hte illusion, I always looked for the real magic. I was recommended this book from a friend of mine, and I say that whoever wants to find that real magic should buy this book. Once one has read this book, they will surely find themselves in a whole new world, both physically, mentally, and spriritually. This book is the ultimate guide for those who wish to take that lost culture into their lives. The book also contains stories to go along with each spell (or vice versa). The strories help the reader to have an image and example to go by when practicing their rite or spell. Once again, this is a great book for those who wish to "perform" real magick, for "A true magician is brought forth as such from his mother's womb. Others who assume the function will be unhappy."
Rating: Summary: This book shows the practical usages of druidic magick. Review: I sat down to read this book in one sitting. His story telling ability is far beyond anything I have read by any other author in the world. The book is filled with useful tips on how to pass from this world to the next with great detail. Buy this book and help support Douglas Monroe so we can get more great works from this scholar. Thanks Douglas for a good read.
