Rating: Summary: This book has helped me in many ways I recomend it to anyone Review: If you want to really learn, this book is a good foundation for you to start, As long as you follow it word for word and step by step. If you finish and want to learn more contact the author or seek out a teacher.
Rating: Summary: Inquisitive and Informative Review: The 21 Lessons of Merlyn is a prerequisite for anyone pursuing the Druid Path. Even as Monroe humbly admits that "Nature is the Great Teacher, and the best of mortal instructors but inept guides by comparison," the reader will find this book both, provocative and instructive. The author's format may offend some---so be it, for this ha been the case throughout mankind's history! "Y Gwir Yn Erbyn Byd!"---The Truth Against the World. A definite MUST for anyone pursuing a study in the ancient wisdom of yesterday!
Rating: Summary: I have purchased the book and found it very entertaining. Review: Like most people I found it very entertaining but do belive this book is not very pratical in "teaching" the reader anything except maybe the herbology part. As an herboligist some of what is illistrated for the leaches are acurate but then anyone into the CRAFT can find the knowledge from any field of magic. A good read if you like the legend of Arthur.
Rating: Summary: The Once and Future Druid Review: This book, if not based on fact, has an incredible story line. We may not know what the Druids were realy like except of a few excerpts from Julius Caesar and the fantasticaly humorous tale, "The Intoxication of the Ulstermen". The author, Douglas Monroe, says he got his source from one of three lost books of the druids. As an author he can not fabricate a book for his defense as ohters have said. The publisher knows this too. I recomend this book for all ages. Young and old. Scholars and lovers of literature.
Rating: Summary: The 21 Lessons of Merlyn Review: This book is a complete fraud. Those that recommed this book for those interested in Druidism need to seriously re-read it. There is no truth in this book and it was written with the sole purpose of furthering the author's political agenda and making him a quick buck in this fast growing genre. I would agree with Mr. Bonewits that there are much better works out there; John and Caitlin Matthews, Rees, Carr-Gomm and Ellis are much better to inform the new explorer of Druidism. The story itself is acceptable as FICTION. That is all. Coinneach MacFaoilte (Kenneth White) Chief of the Independant Order Of American Druids
Rating: Summary: A great FICTIONAL account of Druids and their Practices Review: Although this book creates an intriguing story line, the basis of this book lies solely in fiction. The author bases many "facts" on works that have been shown to be complete frauds. If read as a fictional account of Merlyn and the boy Arthur this tale is, if not historically correct,
an entertaining one.
Rating: Summary: Just a good read Review: I have been studing the Druid way for about 10 years and found some thing in the book that were factual. For the most part the book was inconsistant with the Druid way of life. For the price it would still be a good read
Rating: Summary: Interesting Story But False Information Review: I give this book a five because it had a very intruiging and interesting story line, but extremely false information. All one has to do is read some of the other reviews for some examples of how this book contains false information. I am not an expert in druidism, in fact this was the first book i ever read on it, However through further study i have found that many things about it are indeed false. However i was touched by the story, and feel that it would still be well worth the money to buy
Rating: Summary: 21 Lessons of Hogwash Review: This book is a complete fraud, filled with historical, mythological, botanical and other errors. It's all based on IoloMorganwg's 18th century forgeries, filtered through the author's personal fantasies and his hatred for women. The books by Ellis, Piggott, Ross, Hutton, and Carr-Gomm (all available here at Amazon) are a thousand times better!
Rating: Summary: Forgery Review: This is not a book on ancient Druidism. Heck, one of it's "ancient invocations" comes straight from the movie "Excalibur"! Monroe claims that he got his information from the Book of Feryllt, one of the three "lost masterpieces of Druidism". No such book exists -- it's the product of the fertile imagination of 19th century forger Iolo Morganwg. Morganwg invented a great deal of nonsense that gets passed off as "ancient" Druidism in Neo-Pagan writing. The Book of Feryllt is one such gem. A "Book of Virgil" (Feryllt, in Welsh) is mentioned in a 16th century Welsh text, the Hanes Taliesin. Morganwg invented fake bardic lore (the Triads of Britain)which claimed that this Book of Feryllt was an ancient Druidic tome. Now it appears someone has done him one better and actually written the thing. To summarize, this book is 100% pure fabrication. Its teachings bear not the slightest resemblence to what we known about real Druidism
