Summary: Church Folks "A Peculiar People"
Review: Chile! This book is too funny. (hint) Pastor's false teeth falling out during service (I laughed so hard while reading it on the bus the lady next to me just got and sat somewhere else-She must have thought I was crazy!) I LOVED IT!*!*! I like the way she tells this story. This book comes at a time in my life when I struggled with the dilemma of dealing with crooked christians. It reminded me that I am not losing my mind, but that the wheat and tare will be growning together until harvest time. The characters are so tangible. The storyline was excellent! I am now reading her next book "Second Sunday". My only critizism is this, the slang used in the book doesn't seem to fit the era or maybe its me. Maybe she should do some research and find out what slang terms were used during the 60' & 70's. Other than that she has my vote!

Summary: Very pleased
Review: I was pleased with this book. Although she describes the people in great detail, it actually gave me a mental picture of the people she was talking about. That mental picture brought the characters to life for me. Also, I found it hilarious in the way that she described the preachers, old and young, and the reactions of the people to them. Personally, I think it would make a good movie.

Summary: Good.. but
Review: This book was a good read but I agree that there were too many descriptions. It wasn't what I expected. I enjoyed "Sunday Brunch" and V.C. Murray books much better.

Summary: Not good at all
Review: My mom found this book that someone left behind while on vacation in Bermuda. She said it was a good book so I decided to pick it up. Boy..was I not pleased!! Others have already commented on the absurdities throughout the book. I agree with whomever said that the long statements thrownout while the preacher is speaking is true. There are never statements said longer than "Amen" and "That's right"..but mini-monologues while a preacher is tryin to preach..NEVER.

I don't know..the book had a good storyline..but you could tell this is the author's first book. Back to the storyboard, Ms. Bowen.

Summary: Am I Essie?
Review: This book was given to me by a co-worker, and it has been a "pager-turner" since day 1! I've even had men come up to me and tell me "girl, you're reading a good book... seems to true!" But I must admit, I felt like I was at conference right along wtih them and that I could have been a fly on the wall during "Ms. Thang's" transformation from a stick in the mud-I'm going to be a preacher's wife to "Ms. Humble pie I need your help Ms. Saphronia.

Michele, when is the movie?!?!

Summary: Church Folks-shocking!
Review: This is a great book for anyone with a church history. I thought I have heard it all in my few years in ministry. This book definitely opened my eyes to scandals that have/could happen in ministry when ones eyes leave the Lord and is placed on position, power, titles, money, status, and greed.

This book is real! It shows the hearts and minds of men. You have a few honorable characters and too many dishonorable characters. This is a must read for all. My coworker and I both read this book in 1 week.
