Rating: Summary: a must have for anyone interested in isian religian, or not Review: i bought this book because it fell off a shelf at me. it is wonderful! clear, concise, easy to understand...yet all without losing the poetry of the worship of isis. this book explores isis in all her forms, so it connects to many other cultures and goddesses as well. (isis worship was imported as far north as ireland and germany with traders and raiders) even if you are not interested in egypt or egyptian religion you will find the ideas and rituals moving and useful. if you do have any interest in isis, you simply must get this book.
Rating: Summary: Do NOT buy this book!! Not historically accurate Review: If you are looking for a book with any sort of historcial accuracy this is NOT the book for you. I found it to be one of the most shocking books I've ever had the displeasure of reading. There are hundreds of mistakes in this book. If you are looking for information of the REAL Isis, the one from Ancient Egyptian history then please don't buy this book. In modern day christianity, there are different versions of the same story. People often describe that as a variation in the inturputation. However I can't even give this book that much credit. This paticular author litterly just MAKES THINGS UP. In one case he took a story about the goddess Hathor, and replaced her name with Isis. In another he just rewrites the story all together. In the first of the book he tells how Isis is the daughter of Geb and Nut, who are the children of Ra. 3 or so chapters later he states "Isis has no real relation to Ra". So which is it? Can he not even get his own story straight? My biggest fear is that a person will buy this book, read it and think the information to be historically accurate. IT IS NOT. Not even close. Especially the story he just all out made up about Cleopatra Selene, daughter of the infamous Cleopatra VII of Egypt. If you truly want to learn about ancient Egyptian history, this really is not a book I would recommend. My only recommendation for this book is that the writer seek serious pyscological counsling for his serious obsession with a person that isn't real. I hate to be the one to break it to him, but no matter how many times you say the chant, or inhale smoke, Isis will not appear to you. Atleast not in the reality that we all live in. AVOID THIS BOOK AT ALL COSTS. There is very little if any accurate information about Isis in it.

Rating: Summary: Wonderful for Isis, Terrible for all others Review: In looking for books on Egypt, I had thought this would help. If I was an Isis worshiper, this would have been an invaluable resource in my libary. I recommend this book for all who wish to devote only to Isis. However, to anyone else looking for information on any other God/dess or Egypt itself, this book is sorely lacking. Osiris, Horus, Re and other male gods were hardly mentioned except in cursory references to Isis. Hathor, Nebt-het, Sekmet/Bast and other Goddesses were demeaned only as aspects of Isis rather than the true Goddesses they are. In this and the History of Egypt, this book is lacking.
Rating: Summary: Worthy of its subject Review: In my reviews I tend to criticize Llewellyn, but publishing this book is one of their better moves recently. DeTraci Regula knows a lot about her subject, and the book is thoughtfully and beautifully written. There's a lot of information presented here, and it's presented in a clear and direct manner. She teaches well, but avoids being didactic. The various aspects of Isis are examined in a very readable fashion, and many excellent exercises, prayers, and rituals are included. This is a book of great depth, and the more time you spend with it, the more you will get out of it. I am rereading it now and I am astonished at how much I missed the first time around. One of the things I enjoyed most about this book is Ms. Regula's writing style. She seems to invite you into the book and walk with you through the chapters; it is almost as if you were visiting a temple of Isis and she was your guide and tutor. She has a lot to say and she says it with grace and warmth. I would recommend this book very highly, both to those who are already acquainted with the Goddess of 10,000 Names and to those who are simply seeking information about The Lady of Words of Power and her worship as it continues today.
