Rating: Summary: Did you want a story or the truth? Review: The lessons in this book are simple. They are not an attack on the left, Christian or Jewish rubbish, or a condemnation of fundamentalist Islam (there IS no "fundamentalist Islam" you will learn). The book simply examines the Islamic faith and does what no one else in America has been willing to do: come to a conclusion. And what a conclusion it is. It is important to remember that this book, while a work of fiction for the story, relies on the Qua'ran and the Hadith (the 2 books of the Islamic faith) for all its facts. It is also important to know that the characters' comments on the Islamic faith are PURPOSEFULLY stupid and sophomoric so the reader can easily separate the truths of the Islamic faith from what we ALL know about rhetoric. I was disturbed when I read this from another reviewer:"If you add some extreme anti-Islam rhetoric, seemingly well-researched, maybe valid but far too one-sided, you'll just about have the essence of the ideas expressed here." Ani-Islam rhetoric? The author's site the Islamic Holy books in context. Just as they site the Bible in context. If what this book says is so damaging to Islam and it is simply stating its base teachings, then Islam is wrong. Please equip yourself with this knowledge of the Islamic faith - read this book then open the Qua'ran - it's time we all knew.
Rating: Summary: Tea with Terrorists Review: Tea with Terrorists has a fantastic storyline. It hooked me immediately, and I found it difficult to put down. It was talked about on the Art Bell Show. The authors actually went to terrorists and interviewed them as told in the chapter, Tea with Terrorists. The book is teaching about Christianity, but the main theme is exposing what the authors have discovered about Islam. I checked their evidence with the Koran at my county library and found their examples to be true. This is a book I'd like to discuss with the authors.
Rating: Summary: Disappointing treatment of an important subject Review: I was looking forward to reading this as the subject matter is so relevant to where we are in the world today. Sadly, I was disappointed. Here's an extract from Page 588 of 604. "Truth is dead," Thor grumbled. "If it wasn't for talk-show hosts like Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity, America would be lost." The Admiral walked over to Troy's TV and turned it off. If he'd had a gun, he might have shot it...... Sarah agreed. "Who would have thought that subduing the Islamic warlords was going to be easier than battling our own media. Good grief!..........." If you add some extreme anti-Islam rhetoric, seemingly well-researched, maybe valid but far too one-sided, you'll just about have the essence of the ideas expressed here. (...) A better written and plotted book might have earned 5 stars for the research alone. As it is, a 2 seems about right.
Rating: Summary: No resemblance to reality folks. Review: Two words - Value America. Look them up and Craig Winn on the net and you'll find out more than you want to know about the author of this book and learn something too. I was curious about why there was such strong support for Israel in this book, then I found out Mr Winn is Jewish - not fundamentalist Christian like mentioned in other reviews. So that might explain things a little. Another interesting fact is there seems to be an entire cadre of Jewish authors now pandering to fundamentalist Christian visions of muslim instigated Armegeddon out there. Meshugana.
Rating: Summary: Shear tripe! Review: This book is really a Christian Fundamentalist piece of vapid proselytizing. The writing style is sophmoric, and it is an unapologetic diatribe promoting Creationism. Any validity to the author's premises and contentions, regarding Islamic terrorism, are obviated by the exceedingly poor writing, and the typical mindless Bible-thumping of a devout Fundamentalist. Any value extracted from this book can only be obtained by viewing the logic that provided the authors with justification of the Christian "Fatwah" against Islam, which is, ironically, a perfect mirror-image of Islam's "Fatwah" against the west. If thinking like this prevails, we're all doomed to a world filled with unreasoning hate and retribution. This book is pure dross and isn't worth a nickle.
Rating: Summary: Disappointed Review: I heard about "Tea with Terrorists" on the Mike Gallagher Show this week and went to check out you book Tea with Terrorists. I was disappointed to learn that the book was nothing more than a work of fiction. I don't care how much fact it is claimed to be based on, fiction is still fiction. Much of Hollywood's movies are based on some type of facts and you see how distorted their stories become. I just finished reading Ann Coulter's book Treason. Now that is a non fiction book full of facts and the footnotes to back them up. As you know she made the best sellers' list. No matter how true to life the authors may claim their book is, it's just another Tom Clancey want-to-be.
Rating: Summary: Nonsense Review: I could not make myself finish this book. What a shame, because it has a lot of promise. Knowing next to nothing about Islam, I cannot judge how realistic is its description, which to my taste sounded rather simplistic. But knowing something about Judaism, I find the idea of observant Jewish commandos having dinner in a restaurant serving crabmeat, shrimp, and bacon, to be a sheer fantasy. Either these tough guys are not observant, which would be fine, or they would never eat anything in a restaurant with the menu described on pp 231-232. By the way, the description of their levels of observance is equally unrealistic. The authors' use of German words is laughable. I guess they wanted one of the participants to show his command of that language by responding with 'ja vol', whatever it may stand for, instead of a very appropriate German word 'jawohl' on page 335. To me, that was the last straw. To conclude, the authors are not ashamed to show their ignorance on those two matters. This leads me to believe that their caricature description of Islam is equally inaccurate, or at least cannot be trusted. And this is truly disturbing, because we do need to understand the mortal peril that our civilization is facing now.
Rating: Summary: Deceptive and Intolerant Christian Fundamentalist Rant Review: What a disappointment! I eagerly awaited the arrival of this book as I had heard that it was a thorough and objective examination of Islamic fundamentalism, presented in a can't-be- put-down thriller of a story. What became clear very early on however was that the author's examination of Islam was shallow and childish. The mocking tone that was used continuously throughout the story really discredited the whole analysis and made for a very poor read. And of course there was the usual Christian fundamentalist Sola Scriptural rant and a good dose of Catholic bashing thrown in for good measure. It's amazing to me how deceptive, fallacious, and simplistic most fundamentalists are when it comes to attacking Catholicism. Do they really believe this stuff? At least attempt to present a solid exegesis of scripture and honest analysis of Christian church history instead of spouting the usual well worn insults and errors. They always seem to try and take advantage of those who haven't taken the time to really inderstand their faith, scripture, and the history of the Catholic church. It's a shame. This book had potential.
Rating: Summary: UNREADABLE Review: The beginning of this book is promising and although it is very badly written I found myself getting caught up in the story. As it progressed it bacame more and more a rant against Islam. I do not know if it correctly portrays the teachings and history of Islam as it purports to do but it refers to other sources which I am going to follow up. I almost never stop reading a book, however this one was put away at about 230 pages. I just could not read more. The story line gets silly and predictable and the romance more and more unbelievable. I am a Christian but I found their continual discussion of Christianity very hard going and they don't seem to use the same Bible I do. I would not read another book by Winn and Power but I will make an in depth study of Islam on my own.
Rating: Summary: The truth will set you free Review: An excellent source of information on the background and origins of Islam. Chillingly set in novel format, the story is graphic, compelling and honest without being over-the-top, or profane in its depictions of violence or in its dialogue, which I personally am very grateful for. I particularly found amusing the thinly veiled portrayals of Yassar Arafat, and Hillary Clinton as President: a disturbing preview of our 2008 administration. Don't look for this to be a motion picture soon: Hollywood can't handle the truth.
