Rating: Summary: It makes you laugh, it makes you cry... Review: Being a city girl myself, I felt this book was true to form and gives a realistic picture of life on a farm. It was interesting and informative and made me appreciate the struggles of a farming life, physically, financially, and emotional. The women and men of Lake Emily were strong people and a tight knit community that supports each other through good times and bad. A wonderful read, with picturesque images that put you on the farm!
Rating: Summary: A cozy rainy day read... Review: I found this book to be delightful. The people of Lake Emily were a joy to meet. It's the kind of book I love to read, satisfying in most every way. I just hope we get the opportunity to visit Lake Emily again soon!
Rating: Summary: Can of Peas Review: This book was great! If you enjoyed the Jan Karon books, you'll like this book, also. After reading this book, I felt uplifted.
Rating: Summary: Amazing story Review: Wow, what can I say about this presentation of Americana? I was amazed by how Traci Depree captured the essence of life on the farm. I do wonder how she was able to sneek around my home town and find all the characters there. I am from a small town and dairy farming has been in my family for generations. I too have had to hide behind a few cows. The characters reminded me of real people in my community. Real people and real issues. The story reminds me of something I would see from Hallmark Presents. The story was very moving with "down to earth feel good" situations surrounded by issues real people encounter on the farm and in everyday life. If you don't have a farm background or not even interested in farming. This is a story about following your heart and living your dream. Way to go Mrs. Depee I for one will be awaiting more from this author.
Rating: Summary: Minimal Plot Review: Although this book is cozy, it could have been so much better. The plot is a simple story of a couple who become farmers, which is interesting if you enjoy learning about farming. But there are no subplots. There is nothing else going on besides the farming. Nothing to make you want to keep reading. It basically is a bit boring and nothing at all like the quality writing of Jan Karon.
Rating: Summary: A real disappointment Review: Did not like this book. Selfish female character. Good male character. Loved the town and its people. Learned allot about farming. It is hard work. Need an understanding wife. Did not like the book ending.
Rating: Summary: The next Jan Karon Review: Read five pages of this wonderfully written gem and you'll know what the buzz on this site is all about. Some books just make you feel all warm inside -- A Can of Peas leads the pack. Traci DePree shows her skill with a pen in ways few writers can, which makes perfect sense -- she's been the editor behind many bestsellers over the years. A welcomed new voice in a genre that is begging for novels of this caliber. Bravo Traci.
Rating: Summary: Peace sense of living. Review: This book made me think of the good things in life and gives you a peaceful feeling...you cannot put it down...makes you want to be a farm wife like in the story...they knew what really living is all about.
Rating: Summary: An adorable....cozy read! Review: I was sucked right into this story right from the first page! What a wonderful story that Traci DePree has written! I could not wait to find out about all of these wonderful characters in Lake Emily, and what would happen to them. This was a fun read, and I hope she continues with the series. My one complaint is the relationship that the lead character Mae has with her mother is a little unbelievable. I found myself getting annoyed at that relationship through the whole book. Still worth a read, though. Thanks for the memories Traci DePree!
Rating: Summary: What a cute book Review: Certainly not my typical fare (the last book I read was The Corrections, and before that, Mason & Dixon), but there's an attractive naivete (just a teeny bit manered?) that carries the day. Really, do places like Lake Emily still exist at the dawn of the third millenium? I wonder, but deep in my cold sophisticate's heart, I hope so.
