Summary: The only yoga book you need!
Review: If you want to make positive changes in your life through your yoga practice, this yoga book has it all from beginner to advanced: All the detail you will ever need about the poses, the background on the subjects, the test to know more about yourself (so you can apply the material), and the programs for practice. I used the practice programs in this book and they changed my life.

Summary: Incomplete
Review: This book is unfortunately incomplete, although its intentions are good. Most people are combination types--kapha-pitta, vata-pitta, etc. but the book ignores this necessary fact in its presentation, and acts as though every person is a pure type. After a long, difficult search, I found this subject addressed AFTER the main body of the material--and not in any convenient or helpful manner. Both authors totally ignored my phone calls and emails asking for help on this issue, which doesn't do anything to inspire confidence or a positive attitude toward the book. Frawley is a prolific author and should do more than just present an overview, which would require a live teacher to make sense of the material.

Summary: Comprehensive and Outstanding
Review: This book provides easy to understand basics of yoga and ayurveda (traditional East Indian preventiative medicine). Gives the reader a way to discover their own ayurvedic type and how the yoga poses affect their type, so they can adjust their yoga practice for better balance, health and clarity. I found this book very easy to understand and follow with comprehensive photos and detailed instructions for each posture. It is a practical guide to developing a more effective yoga practice. It has changed the way I understand and practice yoga in my life.

Summary: Doing better your Yoga
Review: This is an extraordinary book for everybody who practice Yoga or have an ayurvedic way of life. Or both. The principle of this book is to integrate the ancient wisdow that, in some level, unifies Yoga and Ayurveda, the "Sciende of Life". In fact, one almost can't live without another and I wonder why this subject took so much time to be developed.

If you are familiar with ayurveda, you know that there are some exercises, some foods and some health directions that are better or not so better for your type (your dosha). Following this reasoning, according to Mr. Frawley, certain asanas, ways to breathe and other cares of Yoga practice can do better or worse for you, based on the type of person you are. His explanations are clear and objective, the book has lots of beautiful and useful illustrations/pictures, and the harmony you'll get by integrating that wisdom in your practice is incommensurable.

More than that, I believe your practice of Yoga can't be that good without this ayurvedic approach. In fact, I don't know why we in the West don't have the ayurvedic approach attached naturally to the Yoga knowledge, as it should be.

If you don't know Yoga nor Ayurveda, I suggest you the books about Ayurveda from Mr. David Frawley and the books of the Yoga from Georg Feuerstein or any other author somebody closer to you - who lives Yoga - had suggested you. But, the best suggestion at all, I believe, is don't die without knowing what Yoga and Ayurveda can do for and with you.

All the best!

Summary: One of the best books on yoga postures in print
Review: This is the only book I need to practice yoga. It has
all the details about
how I should go about personalizing my yoga practice
and all the alignment,
modifications, cautions and more for each posture.
And that covers only 2 of
the chapters. It also gives me an understanding of
Ayurveda, how to know
what type I am and then how to adapt my yoga practice
so that it has the
strongest balancing effect for my specific needs. The
chapter that gives me
months of practices especially designed for my type of
energy is really
valuable. Both authors are masters in their own
fields. Sandra Kozak has
long been known (and on several continents) as an
exceptional yoga teacher
and Dr. Frawley has written many books on Ayurveda.
All in all this is one
of the best books on yoga postures in print and is a
must for any
practitioner of yoga.

Summary: Best Yoga Information Around
Review: Yoga For Your Type is a great book on Yoga. It teaches about Ayurveda and how we can know ourselves better and how we can then use our postures to help us manage our energy, feelings, and lives. It is also a really good book about yoga. The descriptions of the poses are thorough and understandable and as good as you can find anywhere. I use this
book and recommend it as both a good and complete yoga book as well as a good reference for anyone wanting to create a better Ayurvedic balancing type of yoga practice.

Summary: Understanding of Yoga and Ayurveda
Review: Yoga for Your Type is an excellent book for everybody whether they practice Yoga or Ayurvedic or just want to be healthy. In the first chapter the authors give a brief but thorough basis for the understanding of yoga and of Ayurveda. Ms Kozak, who is well known for her exceptional teaching and wealth of yoga information, not only gives complete directions for practicing each of the yoga postures but, in the second chapter gives valuable information about how to practice. Both the third and fourth chapter make this a lasting manual for our practices by giving us 6-12 months of practice directions for the three doshic types.
