Rating: Summary: "Sacred Journey" inspires and remains an all-time favorite Review: "Sacred Journey of the Peaceful Warrior" truly inspired me. Rarely do I ever re-read books, but this one I've read several times. There are fabulous passages which I've highlighted. In fact, a good bit of this book is now colored yellow! It really spoke volumes to me about life .... I've given many copies as gifts and it remains one of my top favorites! A real treasure in my library!
Rating: Summary: "Picked up and never put down!" Review: A friend gave me this book and I found it not only came at the right time, but gave me inspiration and joy at a time of crisis. I got the sequel from the library and it was signed. Resisting all temptation, I proudly returned it for others to share. I would recommend it highly to all seekers of truth and enlightenment.
Rating: Summary: Sounds Fun. Care to Pay My Bills? Review: Dan's series of 'self-help' books really mean well, but as 'Sacred Journey of the Peaceful Warrior' shows all to clearly, Mr.Dan Millman, the author, has got things going for him pretty good. I mean, running around the jungles of Hawaii with nothing to do but talk about spirituality and play 'self-improvement' games. Listen Dan, if you want to pay my bills for awhile, maybe I too can be the next Ghandi, but the truth of the matter is that life is brutal when you really are trying to get ahead these days- and I am not talking about in terms of greed, but in terms of making a better life for oneself. Maybe I am just not far enough along as Dan on life's journey, but it seems to me that Dan's philosophy is very myopic and naive, especially now that terrorism lurks on our periphery. Being an American is a strange thing. We all would like to spiritually perfect ourselves like Dan has, yet one look at Africa or the Middle East shows us how superfluous that is. Ninety percent of the world's population makes less than $1 a day and has to slave like hell just to put a few grains of rice and yams on the table, or they will die of starvation. Seriously. Too many people in this world don't even get enough to eat, and as I myself work hard to put dinner on the table everyday, I just think the author of the 'Peaceful Warrior' series lives a cushy existence that only a select elite have spare time, money, and energy for. Therefore, it is not right for him to give his advice to the general public, for very few of us could live as he would like to live without losing our jobs, and the food on the table- basic things that Dan seems to take for granted. What I am saying is this: If you want to have fun, read Dan's books and go to Maui. But if you want reality, keep working hard and studying harder sciences or you will never pull through these challenging and crucial days.
Rating: Summary: Beautiful, moving, powerful. Review: Ever since I read "Way of the Peaceful Warrior" my life has been completely different. "Sacred Journey" is a perfect companion to his first book, exploring the meaning of spirituality and inner strength more. At some points you will feel as though you're actually there with Dan, taking yourself to the edge of your humanity. A wonderful story!
Rating: Summary: Decent Sequel To Peaceful Warrior Review: I loved the "Peaceful Warrior" book and, to be honest, I didn't expect much from this "sequel". However, after reading it I was pleasently suprised. True, it is not as enjoyable as the Peaceful Warrior, but I liked it and it added some "lessons" to be learned. It's too bad Millman stopped writing semi-fictional stories and now just produces "How to be Happy" type of books. I really enjoyed his stories! For those who also like the fun and excitement of learning through a story you may want to check out the book "The Evolution of a Warrior" .
Rating: Summary: A Sacred Journey-What else can I say? Review: The Sacred Journey of the Peaceful Warrior is a most private book for me but I sense it would be for many who are guided to it by whatever means. I reclaimed my spirit, several friendships and my faith in teachers and teachings. I have bought this book for many people because I would not, curiously enough, trust even my closest friend with the copy that came to me through mysterious circumstance.
Rating: Summary: Decent Sequel To Peaceful Warrior Review: This book may be OK for people with little or no background in spiritual awareness. The author has been "inspired" - to put it mildly- by Castaneda's work.He is nowhere even close to attaining Castaneda's depth or artistic talent. There is no new concept, no original idea that I can remember : every single inspiration can be tracked down to previous authors .The overall design , i.e. a man who finds a spiritual teacher almost as if by chance is a direct copy of Don Juan. Situations, characters and dialogues are infantile ; it is definitely an effort to put forth some spiritual ideas through an adventure story ( absolutely unbelievable) to appeal to a wider public. If you buy your books at the Newstands stores of airports, this may be right for you : easy reading and sugary. If you have a serious interest in the field, be sure to leave it on the stand.
Rating: Summary: Nothing comes before it's time Review: This is a wonderful book on so many different levels. It is always entertaining and at the same time gives you lots of things to think about. One idea that is repeated from "Journey of the peaceful warrior is that to really be happy is to be "present." It is so easy to get preoccupied with regrets of the past, and worries of the future that we don't ever take in the "now." Each day is a gift and thats why it's called the "present." This book does not take off where the first book left off. Rather it is a story of lessons learned about five years after the writer left Socrates (His great teacher) from the first book. He is told about a woman in Hawaii from Socrates. She begins to teach him where Socrates left off. This brings about the point that "the teacher appears when the student is ready. Often times we don't know what is best for us and we want things that may not be beneficial at the time. Dan Millman wanted to meet this woman when he first heard about her years ago but he was not ready for the lessons she had for him. It's not until years later that fate intervened. Once again, if we stay in the present and do whats in front of us we maximize our usefulness, and our happiness. It's said that God answers all our prayers and he only has three responses. Yes, No, and not now. Mama Chia, his new mentor at one point responds to Millman that "Faith involves basic trust in the universe-that everything is for our highest good." Whether this is true or not should not matter becouse when we have faith we act accordingly and life runs smoother. All in all, this is a real page turner and it is as enlightening as it is enjoyable.
Rating: Summary: Leap of Faith! Review: This sequel to The Way of the Peaceful Warrior transports the reader to the moments of Dan Millman's self discovery...acknowledging his inner spirit. Highly recommended for all those beginning their own journey down the path of the Peaceful Warrior. Many questions left unanswered in the first book are revealed to the reader in this account of Millman's quest for 'the' answer, and in the end....you'll just have to read the book!
