Rating: Summary: I just want to say WOW! Review: I found the book to give a wonderful, basic overview of witchcraft and wicca. It was not a "convert" type of book, but rather a "this is what it is" type. I, being a Christian, was taught many misconceptions of Paganism. I was taught it was Demonic and Satanic, but it is nothing of the sort. I found it was an Earth honoring religion. I learned many things from this book that I will carry with me. My best friend is Wiccan and I wanted to learn more about his beliefs. I found it to be very helpful and easy to follow.
Rating: Summary: The perfect book for a beginner. Review: There are two reasons why this book makes it the perfect book for a person thinking about getting into witchcraft. It's cheap and it offers enough information to get you started. It tells of the history of witchcraft, as well as the whys of the beliefs. If you are unsure if witchcraft is for you then, you should get this book and learn a little. If you like what you read then, get other books. Scott Cunningham is an excellent author regarding witchcraft.
Rating: Summary: don't just toss the book to someone and walk away... Review: This is a really nice little book for a number of reasons. The first of those is very basic: it IS a little book. Few people uninterested in practicing Wicca would want to take the time to read a 600 page book about what it is/isn't. This book is short enough to read in a few hours of concentrated time. Another reason that this book is so good is that it doesn't tell everything. A book that went into great detail about Wicca would be easliy be resented for "preaching" or "trying to convert." There is not enough information provided for the book (or the author) to be accused of either of those. This leads to the reason that I only gave the book 4 out of 5 stars. You really can't leave someone alone with the book. I find that it will really raise as many questions as it answers. This could be good or bad. If the person reading it asks the questions, you can answer and probably help them to a much better understanding of Wicca. If they DON'T ask the questions however, it's entirely possible that they will put the book down more confused and in the dark than when they started. Essentially, it would have been a waste of their time. So by all means, pick this book up. It's a great addition to your Wicca library. But please remember that whoever you give it to to read wants not only to learn from the book, but to learn from YOU what you so love about Wicca.
Rating: Summary: this was'nt bad Review: This is good if you just want some general info. If you are looking for something more indepth. Then i would say look around until you find what you need. There are many books to choose from. I did like this book..but it just gives you an idea about things. More like an overview. But overall,,not to bad
Rating: Summary: The Truth... This is a GOOD book :-) Review: The only thing I am not enthusiastic about in this book is the fact that folk magic is dealt with before Wicca is introduced. As Cunningham is primarily a 'Wiccan' writer, I think it would have been best the other way around (and I know my parents would have preferred to read about the religion I was interested in first, rather than something as 'silly' as magic). Other than that, it is a brief but concise introductory guide, not so much aimed at the practitioner as at non-pagans. I do not regret the $15NZ I spent on it! Blessings.
Rating: Summary: A quick - quick reference Review: This is the book to give to your family and friends when and if you need to "come out of the broom closet." It gives a very brief - yet easy to understand overview on subjects and issues common with various forms of The Craft.
Rating: Summary: My introduction to the Craft Review: I read this book at 17. It served as my first introduction to the Craft of the Wise. Within, Cunningham seperates the religion of Wicca from Folk magick and explains each in turn. He also gives a brief description of other systems of magick, and explains the differences between them and Wicca. Cunningham designed all his books in the most efficient way possible. This book is recomended for explorerers, and as a good book to give family who want to know what your up to when all that incense smoke stars billowing out of you room!
Rating: Summary: Would have gotten more stars but... Review: This book is basic. I mean really really basic. I guess it's good to keep around for family and friends who are curious about Wicca and Witchcraft, but not for the serious seeker who's looking for more...much more. The only reason it got as much as three stars is that it has an excellent reference list. The books that this book recommends sorta make this book worth it, although it should still be priced under a buck.
Rating: Summary: very good, corrects stereotypes about witchcraft Review: I have several friends who are wiccans and I became interested in it. I heard a lot about this book so I picked it up at the store. It was very easy to read and gave good, interesting information about witchcraft. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in becoming a witch, or to help others better understand your religion and help clear up old misconceptions. 5 stars!
Rating: Summary: Excellent Intro Review: If you've been trying to figure out how tell your parents/friends/new significant others that you are a witch, this is a great way to start. The purpose of the book is to give an overview of the Craft in a very calm, rational voice. When you come out as a witch, many questions will be asked of you. Being new to the Craft can be as stressful as it is enlightening, in that there are a lot of new emotions that you have not yet discovered. This means that you may not have all of the answers to all of the questions you are going to be asked. This book will give most of them. It is short, to the point, and cheap. Cunningham also includes some basic rituals at the end, in case you yourself are a newbie pagan.
