Rating: Summary: Let the truth be known Review: This is a 56 page booklet cleverly written to quickly uncover the truth about the nature-based religion of Wicca. Christianity's egotistical belief that they are the only true religion, was one of the reasons all the misconceptions about alternative religions began in the first place. Unlike more commonly socially acceptable religions, "Wicca is non-profit and non-political. It is not evangelical or contolling. It is not out to rule the world or convert the masses, take your money or try to force you to believe as its followers do". It is free-thinking and moral. Wicca does not believe it is right for everyone. It encourages you to research and learn it to be sure that it is right for you. It encourages individuality. So this is a great book to recommend to anyone who is intelligent enough and open minded enough to learn about something that they don't understand before they blindly pass judgement on it based on what "religious" people have lead them to believe.
Rating: Summary: Outstanding PR Tool Review: Although Cunningham's critics accuse him of popularizing Wicca and may not favor this book under any circumstances, I consider this by far one the best public relations tools existant for Pagans. My only complaint is that it only covers one religion under the Pagan umbrella - Wicca. But when it covers Wicca, it does so thoroughly, with a brief overview of all the primary practices of Wiccans that removes the mystery and thus the fear of those who have found the Wiccan Path most suitable to them. When doing work with the general public, I always recommend this book or try to have a copy on-hand.
Rating: Summary: The truth known today as it was 6000yrs ago. Review: Witchcraft we can say is one of the oldest religions, as seen in the Holy Bible, but it is never spoken of in a positive light.Dueuteronomy 18:10 "There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire or that useth divination, or an observer of times or an enchanter or a witch. Or a charmer or a sonsulter with familiar spirits or a wizard or a necromancer. For all these things are an abomination unto the Lord and because of these abominations the Lord Thy God doth drive them out from before thee. For these nations which thou shalt possesss hearkened unto observers of times and unto diviners; but as for thee the Lord Thy God hath not suffered (allow) thee so to do." Witch's per say, do not believe in the devil, in fact that don't even believe in God (Jehova). Though they may not believe in the devil, they certainly follow doctrines of demons. This is the biggest deception of Satan. Does he care if you don't belive in him? As long as he can keep you from God, your at free will to believe in the unicorn. This is why God tells us not to consort with evil spirits, or gods and goddess what witches call them. We are told that Satan is the god of this word. Sure, they come off as friendly, but that is another deception. Wicca is against the first commandment of God, "Thou shalt not have any God's before me." Yes, witchcraft is the same witchcraft of yesterday, will be in the present and tomorrow, just sold in a different package, but having the same gut. God Bless
Rating: Summary: This should be the first book on Wicca you read Review: I had been curious about Wicca for a while before I had seen this book. I read a few other books about it before, but I wish I had seen this one first. It was the first book to explain clearly what Witchcraft is and is not. Cunningham's purpose is not to convince you that his faith is the "correct" one, but rather to show that Witchcraft is beautiful religion undeserving of its reputation of demonic associations. It's not what I would call a deep book, but it has many good uses. First, I would recommend it to anyone who is curious about the religion but knows little about it. Anyone who has an interest in religion, for example. Second, I would recommend it to give to a friend or family member, if you are Wiccan and they are interested in what you believe. It's short, sweet, and to the point, and they won't have to spend weeks reading it to understand what you believe. Third, I think it would be a great book as part of the required reading for a college course dealing with Wicca. Most college students have no idea what Wicca is, so this would be a nice intro book.
Rating: Summary: A book that tells it like it is! Review: First of all, the cover is an excellent portrayal of Witches today because it can be anyone from a lawyer to a teacher! I've been a Witch for 4-5 years, even longer I believe. Growing up, Wicca was a name not known to me until I reached High School then going to College 5 minutes outside the Witch City of Salem Massachusetts. Don't be fooled by books that say Witchcraft is evil, they are just continuing on a line of hatred that's been carried on for years on end! This book is beginner and curious friendly. I betcha it could reverse a die hard Christain's way of thinking. It really opens you up to the beauty around you in Nature. You can take an everyday object or maybe a useless object for example a register tape roll spindle to bring in the bank! It's that easy, if you have the desire and will and imagination you can change things. Don't be misguided by society today, who says they know it all.
Rating: Summary: A lot of information in such a little book Review: If you ever had questions about Wicca, Magick, etc., this book answers just about all your questions. Scott Cunningham was a wonderful author and he constantly reminds the reader that this practice is not Satanism, dark & negative magic that most of society thinks of first. It is a book that one who practices this art can re-read and still get more from it. He explains the pentagram...NOT for satanic use. It represents the four elements (earth, air, fire & water) plus spirit (yours). For those who don't understand, they will after reading this little book written with so much understanding.

Rating: Summary: Good things do come in small packages! Review: Great, short book for the everyday lay-man without any under tones of converting anyone to Witchcraft. I recommend it highly for all your "Non-Pagan" friends and family to bridge the communication gap and get conversations rolling. It is not an all inclusive or even a starting point for those serious about practising The Craft, and that is not the intention of the author as I see it, so figure on something else from Cunningham to help you begin. Be well in The Goddess !!! )o(Tamara
Rating: Summary: Oh Yeah Review: This is one of the first books on Witchcraft that I ever read. As always, here Cunningham delivers a clear, concise and fascinating account of the Crafte. It's great for beginners and excellently outlines many of the major points people always ask about when they're just getting started. It's a great get you started book. The coven I'm involved in buys these and gives them to people wanting to learn more to read. It's a great buy!
