Rating: Summary: hauntingly beautiful Review: I read this book about 2 years ago,and all the scenarios are still in my head.I don't call it a fiction,it's far more than a fiction. We are all somehow stuck in the world we live in,and suffocated by the so-called reality that we created, but we seem to forget that life is still beautiful and short!what's really important now is to make our existence worthy, and go for our dreams.Ideas may differ, but what are we doing here for these years if we don't know what we are here for?read this book.
Rating: Summary: Veronoka Decides to Die, drags on and on. . . Review: First let me say I am a huge fan of Paulo Coelho, but this book left me thinking, "How long does it take anyone to die?"
Rating: Summary: made an impact Review: My favorite parts of the story were that of the other patients', namely Mari and Eduard. As for Veronika's own story, I didn't really relate and felt that her life was too perfect and the ending of her story too magical. Though I wasn't inspired by Veronika herself, the story made me understand how short a human's life on earth really is. After reading the book I thought about what I wanted to do with the little time given to me on earth. "Veronika Decides to Die" is not really a profound read, but I have no complaints about it being boring. I will recommend this book to young people bored with their life -- I think after reading it they can be impacted like I was. This story hopes to tell everyone to treasure life. It is also a short read. For its important message, I'll give it three stars and overlook its other flaws.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic Book Review: Paulo Coelho has done it again. What a fantastic book! It keeps your mind wondering about the different meanings of life and the goals that we think we want to achieve. Wonderful prose!
Rating: Summary: Veronika Decides to Die Review: I have read only 2 of Paulo Coelho's books and I always feel inspired by the hidden content. I recommend this book and the Alchemist as well; I enjoy the simplicity of his writings and the underlying lessons that are revealed. These Messages linger well after you have completed the book.
Rating: Summary: A beautiful book with the power to alter the readers life Review: This is the most amamzing book I have ever read and I strongly recomend everyone to read it. The story is about a young girl called Veronika who has lost the love of life and feels there is nothing to keep her in this world so she decides to take her own life by taking an overdose of sleeping pills only to wake up in Villete the local mental hospital. Although she is told she has an irreversible heart problem and will die within about five days. This story follows the next seven days of her life while she meets some amazing people and Paulo Coehlo links their stories in with Veornika's to make a stunning and moving story which can alter the readers life. With an amazingly powerful ending that will stay with you forever. If you only read one book this year you must make it Veronika Decides To Die
Rating: Summary: Lifeless Review: It seems that most people reviewing this book are reviewing the message ("Life is good") rather than the book. Sure, the moral of the story makes you feel good, but that doesn't mean that the book is well done; in fact, the novel itself is weak. The story goes nowhere, the characters are as dead as Veronika wishes to be, and the ending is obvious from the beginning. Maybe it reads better in Portugese, but this one left me colder than the Slovenian winter.
Rating: Summary: A beautiful story... Review: This was my first time reading a book by this author. I was deeply impressed. Veronika wakes up in a mental institution after a failed suicide attempt. Without giving too much away....Veronika is given permission to be "crazy", and let herself feel things and express herself in ways she had never really imagined. I laughed..I cried, and was sad when this short novel was over. I love reading, and this book stands out as one of the best books I have read in a long time.
Rating: Summary: Poetic and a book you will not put down after one reading Review: The poetic writing and rythm of Coelho will take you on a journey into the self-reflefction and spiritual rebirth of a girl who is young, pretty, and seemingly has everything - but decides to die. You witness a girl who has forced herself to stop feeling to rediscover hate as well as joy. You see how the unconditional and self-sacrificing love of parents can cause a child anguish and guilt for wanting to be individual rather than living up to their expectations. And as Veronika allows herself to feel emotions, and live life to its fullest in a way only a person with only five days left to live can; you witness the impact it has on others around her, as well as yourself. Coelho takes you on a journey to rediscover that every day, we have choices - and we make choices - in living our lives the way we live it today.
Rating: Summary: Decide to read this book! Review: Veronika is a young woman depressed with the state of the world and decides to overdose on pills to escape. She wakes up in Villette, a mental home where she has been informed that the pills have damaged her heart sufficiently that she will in fact die within the next 4 days. In Villette, Veronika befriends some diverse characters who help her review her life to date and what she would like to do with the last remaining hours. This book will haunt you and make you start examining your own decisions of what you do with your time here.
