I really felt this book was written for me as the author expressed a number of questions and doubts that I had myself. The book gives valuable advice about how to handle difficult situations and prepare mentally for conversion so one feels very much supported. Excellent book!
Rating: Summary: A Great Book to Start With! Review: This book was the first book I bought when I decided to convert. I found it to be very helpful, though it only breifly covered a large number of topics. I would definitely recommend it to anyone considering conversion. It will help you get through the first steps!
Rating: Summary: On the way to converting Review: This is one of the first books I gave my husband when he was thinking on converting. I read it myself and I truly liked it. It focus on the person that already knows about judaism and is thinking on converting. It's a guide that will help you to choose a rabbi, a synagogue, a Hebrew name, etc. Anita Diamant explains you every single step of the Convertion ceremony, and also includes a chapter about the convertion of children, not a common argument. It's really helpful
Rating: Summary: A great step-by-step explaination of conversion Review: Ths book dealt with a wide range of topics, trying to answer the "universal" questions of the Jew by Choice, such as how to cope with Christmas, how to tell one's parents, etc. However, by far the greatest strength of this book, and the reason I highly recomend it to anyone considering conversion, is the step-by-step explaination of what kinds of questions the rabbi will ask, what happens at the mikva, and what the bet din is like. This book got me really excited about conversion.
Rating: Summary: Right book for the right person . . . Review: We don't have goddesses in Judaism but if we did Anita Diamant would be a goddess of sensitive modern Jewish books overall from the woman's perspective. I ain't a woman--just a sensitive guy. ;-)I keep many books on Judaic subjects including those that can help a potential Jew, and so it is important to have them from different perspectives. If anyone could represent a modern, thoughtful, sophisticated woman, who speaks to any woman, Ms. Diamant can. But again anyone taking a look at Judaism as a way to life in a heartfelt way can benefit from _Choosing a Jewish Life_. Diamant is the author of other worthwhile books including one on Jewish weddings, and the biblical novel _Red Tent_. The book is not a defensive apologetic for Judaism but shows it as a natural choice for you with respect for others regarding your choice. It presents Judaism with family in mind. Risking sounding chauvinistic (probably already have because I guess I am), this book shows the love and heart of Judaism and anyone, especially women, considering the choice to help repair the world in partnership and covenant with God, would appreciate this book. If it assists you successfully, Brukim Havaim.
Rating: Summary: I know I was led to this Book! Review: What a wonderful, truly spiritual book for someone beginning the conversion process to Judaism. Anita Diamant's words are soft, but powerful, simple yet informative. She really has a way of touching a heart and calms a person's fears, who is considering conversion. I crave more knowledge of Judaism because of this book. Anita includes poetry, Jewish terminology, jokes, explanation of rituals all in one book, that I believe was a beautiful gift to me from above.
