Summary: Very Complete
Review: Out of the many books on this subject I thought this was one of the best. It has very accurate and throrough information about the various signs, as well sign compatibility. Very awesome.

Summary: For seasoned astrologers and novices alike
Review: Thank you for your interest in Chinese Horoscopes.

In 1979, The Handbook of Chinese Horoscopes introduced the full 60-year lunar cycle of how the twelve lunar signs work in conjunction with the five elements. The Handbook explains the lunar ascendants, compatibility table and triangles of affinity as well as the 144 possible marriage combinations between the twelve signs. Personality exposes of the 144 lunar and solar alliances will merge the East and West zodiac cycles and a person born under the Western sign of Aries will discover that he or she is not only an Aries but a very colorful and powerful Aries Dragon, for example.

Bear in mind that as you chart your own lunar horoscope, you will find more than one animal sign in your life's composition and gain new insights into your nature. It will help you to both understand yourself as well as others and to look for meaningful interpretations and possibilities to build better and stronger relationships.

This thi! rd edition (431 pages) contains a hundred more pages of new information to carry us through the millennium.

In 1995, I wrote the sequel or companion book to the Handbook of Chinese Horoscopes named: The Chinese Horoscopes Guide to Relationships, called, The Guide, for short. The Guide expands the boundaries of this fascinating subject and takes us to new levels of understanding and fine-tuning relationships of all types. In addition to The Handbook and The Guide, I wanted to share the valuable wisdom of ancient China through Best-Loved Chinese Proverbs, which was also released that year. These age-old maxims still present valuable insights into people's lives as they did thousand of years ago.

It is my hope that you will find all the answers to questions that you may have as you view yourself through the looking glass of Chinese astrology. I have written both The Handbook and The Guide in an easy to comprehend but comprehensive way with detailed explanation for seasone! d astrologers and novices alike.

The Chinese philosophy I! subscribe to celebrates the uniqueness of our different natures instead of trying to change what we cannot and should not. We should have the wisdom to work with what we have. These books will help you discover what you strengths you already possess.

Wishing you Happiness and Harmony in your life.

Summary: Simply one word: accurate
Review: The book is the best after I had read many similar books. It is very accurate and it helps me a lot to aviod troubles.

Summary: A MUST READ Handbook for those in Search of Themselves!
Review: Theodora Lau is a highly knowledgeable Chinese astrologer who combines a masculine logic and feminine sensitivity to her work. Not only is she 100% accurate in her Yearly predictions for different Animal Signs but also exhibits a sense of humor and down to earth style of writing that amuses and makes you laugh. It's the only book that I'm proud of to pass around during get-togethers or parties because Lau combines the Eastern and Western Signs of Astrology which we all found sincere and true. A true psychic. I shall consider reading more books by her from now on and hope to read what is in store for the Signs in the Lunar Cycle for 2003 and beyond. She has kept her reverence for the Chinese tradition and yet at the same time has an innovative view of a western mind. I think this Handbook of Chinese Horoscopes is worth more than its price.

Summary: Superb and very comprehensive guide
Review: This book has been the subject of many a gathering and well received by all. It details all the personalities and traits of the various horiscopes, the complexities of the influences of other signs on one's own. It is a fab reference book - the only problem is finding out a subjects date of birth to do an analysis- if it is not already known and that is no fault of the author who has detailed a fantastic book. I am so pleased to note that it has been updated to cover the millenium and to the year 2008. Please keep it going after that date.

Summary: A thorough and objective explanation of Chinese astrology
Review: This book is a definite must for the library of anyone who is even remotely interested in an alternate perspective of what drives human nature and relationships. Ms. Lau's book is about as close as most readers can get to getting an actual reading from a Chinese astrologer. It contains charts and tables detailing a myriad of Chinese astrological influences -- the reader can focus on information down to the hour of one's birth! The reader should be aware that the author's perspective is objective, and she does not hesitate to share information that might not always be welcome. Nonetheless, this book makes an excellent gift, and I have given it on many an occasion.

Summary: An excellent introduction to a complicated subject...
Review: This book is an excellent introduction to the very complicated subject of eastern astrology. Most Northern Americans have no desire nor need to delve into the esoterics of same, and this book serves us well. Lau provides insightful looks at the lunar signs, explains the impact of the five elements, cross-references with western astrology, and gives the layperson a wonderful overview.

I find her yearly predictive blurbs to be short, but for the most part, accurate. I find the character descriptions to be spot on, and consult her book when I meet someone new I am curious about. All in all this is a well-written book which would make a very nice addition to anyone's library of new age material.

Summary: A Shallow and Simple Book for Beginners
Review: This book presents an extremely simple and extremely narrow look at Chinese horoscopes. It's lots of fun at parties, but don't expect to get a detailed horoscope from it.

Anyone really familiar with Western horoscopes will know "Heaven Knows What" by Grant Lewi. I use that as my point of comparison for any book on astrology. Lewi's work is flawed in that it fails to deliver any substantive technique that can be used beyond his one book and doesn't illustrate much of the mechanics of astrological study, yet newcomers will find themselves producing very detailed horoscopes that compare well to the most advanced techniques of aficionados.

How does Lau's work compare to Lewi's book? Not well at all. As with Lewi, Lau's work falls short on technique, but distressingly, her book also doesn't produce results. Lau's work is simple and distressingly "correct." It is never at all challenging or negative. Where Lewi had artistry, clear and personal descriptions, Lau presents pleasant entertainment.

You can learn a few basics from this book. You can learn the birth years for each sign and some general characteristics and compatibility between the signs. You won't learn anything about the mechanics of Chinese astrology and you won't learn anything deep or insightful about anyone with it.

Even though it's very simple, I don't think that this is a very good book for a beginner who wants to progress with Chinese astrology. It's really just the most basic overview.

Summary: So accurate, it's frightening!
Review: This is one of the most interesting books I've ever read! I've read chapters of it to almost everyone I know and they all agree on it's accuracy. I sometimes think think that it's scarry that you can tell so much about a person based soley upon the year in which they were born. It's a must read!

Summary: The best book on Chinese Horoscope you can buy
Review: This is the best book I've read on Chinese Horoscope. I've had this book for over 10 years and have constantly brought an updated version of it because all my friends were borrowing it and then kept it for themselves. The introduction of the book is extremely important. Most people just read their horoscope based on the animal they are under, but not realizing that there are many factors that will influence their personality. It's all described in the front of the book. For example, your year, month, hour and even place of birth will influence your personality. You may be born under the year of the Boar, but if your month, hour and place of birth is ruled by the Rat, you will have some personality trait of the Rat. Finding elements of fire, water, wood, earth and metal that influences your personality is also very important. This book describes all of these as part of the introduction of this book.
