Rating: Summary: A PROFOUND BOOK THAT IS WIDELY MISUNDERSTOOD Review: For anyone who has experienced what it is like to dream lucidly, this book is invaluable. I think the problem with this book is that the only way you can truly appreciate just how important this book is, is if you are a lucid dreamer. My advice is as follows, if you are interested in dreaming lucidly but have no experience, read the book but suspend judgement. Just hold on to it until you begin to have the actual experience and then re-read the book. In the meantime, I would suggest some of the more basic texts like those written by Robert Monroe (Journeys Out of the Body, Far Journeys, Ultimate Journey) or Esmeralda Arana (The Path). It is important to understand that the practice of lucid dreaming is what gives Warriors their extraordinary perceptual abilities. This is the key feature of the Warrior's Way that results in the development of abilities such as clairvoyance. While it is certainly not the only way to tap into our "magic" it is nevertheless a very powerful tool.
Rating: Summary: This book will help you get to dreamland Review: I bought this book because of my interest and experience in lucid dreaming. I was really hoping to unearth something of substance, but I'm left with sand falling through my fingers. This book is boring, and the conversations too contived and vague. In my humble opinion, this is a book to avoid.
Rating: Summary: Dreamwork Review: I generally don't have time to type reviews online. This book is the one that will knock the walls down and give you the tools to change your life. The experiences that you will have in dreaming, just by reading this book, will forever change how you view the world. If I were to recommend one single book to someone seriously interested in Toltec knowledge, this would be the one. It will be some time before the truths and power found in this book will be recognized for what they are by western society. Are you ready to be blown away?
Rating: Summary: This is not a book of fiction, this is a textbook . Review: I have been reading this book (off and on) for about five years, each time finding more clarity and understanding of Castaneda's thoughts. Can't wait for its sequel. When is it coming out? Thank you, Don Carlos.
Rating: Summary: a gauge of how wise you really are Review: I have read this book about 10 times now. It is a powerful source of energy for me since it seems to transport me into my dreaming attention. From within this dreaming attention I am able to understand everything that is revealed to me. HOwever, every time I come back to read this again, i realize that my understanding of it is different. It seems that my level of understanding is the measure of the awareness that I have as i am reading. I understand that not everybody is a dreamer however. Some people might be better off reading PLATO and his philosophy on the "realm of forms" first. But plato is old. Castaneda is now. I have deep respect for his works. Practically, this book will sharpen your intuition and help you merge your dreamworld into the real world. It also gives a great historical backround on the "sorcerors of antiquity". Don juan lets us know that we don't have to get so heavy like the old sorcerors did. "Dreaming" is supposed to serve your higher purposes and is very open to all subjective worlds, including yours! So please have an open mind when reading this book. Have fun!
Rating: Summary: This goes beyond the normal lucid dream! Review: I usually do not review the books I purchase - but seeing that none of the reviews, in my opinion, give this book enough credit, I will express why I believe this book is of extreme importance - especially to those whom intend to become conscious of the subconscious. Now, as suspected, there are a lot of rumors concerning the 'authenticity' of Castaneda's experiences with a Yaqui Shaman named Don Juan and the teachings he revealed. I however, believe them all to be non-relevant in this particular instance. The fact is, Castaneda has torn a gapping hole in many peoples way of perceiving what they 'think' to be reality. And because of this, many of the critics and 'egos' choose to turn their heads and deny any possibility that all we perceive is a just a very convincing hallucination. 'The Art of Dreaming' gives the reader a first hand account of what a 'person' is capable of, that is, if his/her intention is strong enough to overcome the illusion of space, time, and self, and in so doing experience that which underlies and goes beyond our normal illusionary existence without trying to give it an objective meaning. That said; I would like to justify why I believe (the majority of) this book is 'authentic,' and not just a good writers imagination and I would also like to remind everyone that they travel to the fourth dimension every night when sleep paralysis sets in and there energy bodies float out into his/her own small corner of the astral realm which we refer to as dreaming. Anyone with any occult knowledge will automatically realize the significance of the wisdom enumerated in this book. The organic beings are called larvae that only bother those which cannot control there own emotions and desires. The energy body is the astral body or linga sharira. The assemblage point is a great insight into the subtle assimilation of our conscious perceptions. Astral projection is discussed. But towards the end I do believe Castaneda puts more imagination than fact, thus the four stars and not five, but again whose to say what fact is or isn't? Nonetheless it makes an interesting reading. When I first read it I did not realize the importance of the material, but after progressing in my practice by utilizing the much needed info in the below books, I realized Castenada gives the reader valuable tips for advancing beyond the normal lucid dream, tips that the dream yoga's are very allusive in explaining. And it is for this reason that I highly recommend anyone SERIOUS about becoming conscious of the subconscious to give this book a thorough study ' but anyone just beginning to have lucid dreams I would recommend you research and read the following titles beforehand, which are also available on this web-site: ****** 'The Tibetan Yogas of Dream and Sleep' ****** 'Tsongkhapa's Six Yogas of Naropa' ****** 'Natural Liberation, Padmasambhava's Teachings'' ****** 'Initiation into Hermetics' Oh, one more thing ' the 'third and forth gate' is the secret of the homunculus.
Rating: Summary: a book of strange genius Review: I was of the opinion that Castaneda probably made this stuff up, but I read all his books anyway because they are so entertaining, deep and haunting and I agree with the basic philosophy that this world of ours is basically a shared interpretation of energy. Then I had a series of dreams. I sure don't think he made the stuff up now. Thanks, Carlos, for opening the door and describing reality in a way I had only partially suspected before.
Rating: Summary: disable the cortex Review: If the human being wouldn't have developed ears, would you believe in music? If black and white view would be natural for human beings, would you believe, or could you imagine colours? ... no doubts?
Rating: Summary: His best work Review: In the Art of Dreaming, Castaneda fills in many of the gaps in his earlier works and goes into great detail about a specific aspect of the sorcerers knowledge: Dreaming as a method of eliciting changes in conciousness to produce practical results. The book will test the readers credulity. The stories are the most bizarre yet and make for very entertaining reading (the book is classified as non-fiction). My own impression is that there is something disturbingly familiar about the experiences Castaneda describes.
Rating: Summary: Continues the tradition Review: Much better than Eagles Gift. Shows the maturatation process that Carlos is constantally going through. Explains some mysterys. Read it about three times and will probably read it again. But for the five star rating to be valid for you. You must read the other books in Carlos long running saga first. (sorry about the spellings)
