Rating: Summary: Silver's book is great for beginners Review: i never really got to finish the book, but i read more than half of it and it was great. I borrowed the book from a friend and she needed it back before i could finish it. i just started studying the craft over the summer and this book is great for beginners. I learned a lot from it. Well that's all I have to say about the book. Bye.
Rating: Summary: Wicca 101 Review: I have spent two years researching the Craft and found this and the subsequent books by Ravenwolf very helpful. Great for the beginner! Not so authoritarian as to be off putting, but not so vague as someother authors on touchy subjects. Mother Silver lets you know the difference between widely accepted practice and her personal preferences. Follow the program of exercises and readings and you will feel your connections to the Earth Grow along with the need for more information! This book has led me to others but I always come back to Silver!
Rating: Summary: Alright for beginers Review: This is a very basic book. If you have common sense, or any knowledge of wicca, then this is probably not for you. All the information in this book I've seen thousands of times over in different books, and it wasn't even put into a very different light. If you are a very beginer, then this would be the book for you. If you have never read a book on wicca, then I would suggest this one, as it is easy to read and covers the basics.
Rating: Summary: Worth a Try Review: This was the first book of Witchcraft I had ever owned, and once I was finished, I was insatiable for more knowledge. While this book is very general in some areas, it is excellent for the beginner who is coming into the Craft with a "know nothing" basis. (As I did) Some of her other books I don't really approve of, but as fluffy as this is, it's pretty darn good!
Rating: Summary: A Wonderful Book Review: When I was just starting out this was the first book on Wicca I read and it was an unbeleivable guide. Set out like a lesson book it takes you through the basics of witchcraft in steps leaving you with a broad horizon from which to branch out from, in whatever direction you may choose. She even goes so far as to recommend other books you can read as you continue through the chapters. It is truly a great read!
Rating: Summary: Not one I would recomend for the new person to the craft Review: Ravenwolf definitely does an ok job covering the hows and many of the whys of wicca, but I don't feel that she gives an adequate description of ethics involved in practicing, and the costs of asking for things via magic. In fact, she often seems to encourage running to magic to solve all problems, and that is not a healthy thing to do. In that situation, magic becomes a crutch, and you may have it cost you much more than you wanted to pay. In general, if you are able to accomplish something on your own, then do so. In essence, I feel that this book was deliberately geared towards those who are most likely to not question or research the things she has to say.I also dislike the preachy attitude in this book. The 'once born' reference is certainly insulting to Christians, and the general attitude of things must be done this way or it is not correct is rediculous. It can be a decent reference guide, although some of the info is incorrect -for example, don't rely on this book for accuracy on the Norse pantheon. However, there are other books that can fulfill the role of reference guide with a great deal more acuracy and a great deal less rigidity.
Rating: Summary: To Ride A Silver Broomstick Review: I bought this book about 5 years ago. It was the best book I have ever bought as a beginner. I also always find myself going back to it- it is a breath of fresh air for the mind. I think Silver Ravenwolf has a very unique writing style and makes it fun to read and not a boring book of instruction.
Rating: Summary: great for beginners Review: This was my second book on wicca that i bought three years ago. For the beginner it gives some history of the craft and some exercisises. I think that if you are too advanced it may come of as a bit "cosmic foo foo" but if you are new at this, i believe that it is a great starting point.
Rating: Summary: Good, but that doesn't cut it Review: This book is good, but not soooo good. It's got good information, but most of the book is just blabbering, informative blabbering, but still blabbering. This book needs some spice, instead of just boring, dull information. I mean, the first half of the book is about kinds of traditions, and wiccan history, and list of gods and goddesses- which is good information, just not what you would expect from a book that's supposed to teach you the Craft. If I wanted a book about history, factions whithin Wicca, or Gods & Goddesses, I would buy one particularly suited for that. So in conclusion, this book can be a nice addition to your Wiccan library, yet it will not be an integral part of it.
Rating: Summary: Great for begginer and advanced alike Review: Now, I myself am I pretty big fan of Silver, I read teen witch as my first book in my approach to wicca, and now I'm eclectric, like her. I think she gets a little regimented though... she sometimes says things in a Do This format... but thats mainly with teen witch. This book isnt too much like that, their may be like a couple isntances, but hardly any. She really tries to explain every category of begginers to advanced magick as detailed as she can without making the book as big as harry potters goblet of fire! I love her sense of wit, it makes reading her books fun. Some people say they dont like how she gets into personal stories and doesnt always talk about what the chapters supposed to be about, but I like that, it makes me feel like all authors are human, and I love a good story. This book definetly is chock full of info, I've used it as a refrence many times. It even tapes into astral projection! I only wish she included more spells, she doesnt really have any, sorta simple ones that arent like ritual spells, like how to get a green light in traffic and stuff like that. She does have this one money spell she says she does every quarter, I changed it into a more complicated one to make it more fun, but I kept the words, and now I have a high paying job! ~Silver Fire
