Rating: Summary: very good for understanding all aspects of wicca Review: I must say this is an excellent book....it is very in detail on all of the subjects covered..silver ravenwolf's book is easy to understand...instead of making the book complicated she gives examples and helpful hints and ideas one might want to use when you are just getting started.
Rating: Summary: THE BEST I HAVE SEEN YET Review: I have read this book and found it to be one of the best and most enlighting books I have read on Witch Craft. It touchs on almost very aspect of the Craft and lists books which can be read for more in depth detail on the subjects. There are also lessons that can be done to perfect meditation, keeping records of rites, visualization... it is a MUST for a new comer or even for those who have been in the craft for some time
Rating: Summary: A wonderful resource of Wicca information. Review: Silver is funny, charming, and heartwarming in To Ride A Silverbroom stick. She touches on everything from basic ritual information, to coming out of the "broomcloset". A must read for those looking for information on the Old Religion, in the New Age
Rating: Summary: excellent for the beginning witch Review: this book was an excellent stepping stone as I began in my new religion. It is down to earth, easy to understand, and very informative
Rating: Summary: Good for beginners and long-time practitioners alike Review: Unlike many other long-time Wiccans, I believe this book to be a very good resource for both newbie and elder. Having been in both Coven and Solitary situations over the last 12 years, I agree with SRW that sometimes stock (and sometimes stodgy) rituals don't always fit the bill. Her research is good (unlike many others - INCLUDING Raymond Buckland, whose historical recreation of history is rather amusing at best) and the fact that she has printed only rituals and spells that she and her coven have tested and used is what makes her a responsible and respected author of information about Wicca. Go and Pick it up! It's worth it
Rating: Summary: Great for pagans of all ages! Review: This book is great for beginers, but also proves worthy higher level practicioners of all orders. This is the first SRW book I read and I would highly recommend it for anyone interested in Witchcraft. SRW's sequel, "To Stir a Magick Cauldron", is a little bit hard to follow if you have not read "To Ride a Silver Broomstick" first
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Book for All! Review: This book is one of the best on begining to learn about Wicca! Even if your a practiced practioncer you should get this book for its tips/tricks and excersises alone! Wonderful Wonderful Wonderful! Newbies just Buy it now
Rating: Summary: Simplistic but so-so for neophytes Review: To Ride A Silver Broom Stick is a milk-toast introduction to Wicca. It tends to say that almost "anything goes" when it comes to Wicca, and this simply isn't so. I believe it will have a tendency to confuse rather than help the beginner. Being in a coven for 16 years, I would rather recommend The Complete Book of Witchcraft by Raymond Buckland. It gives more accurate information about Wicca and actually contains some REAL ritual information...not the made-up tripe that Ravenwolf spouts
Rating: Summary: Witchcraft 101 -- an excellent introduction Review: This is a good "starter" book for people who want to learn more about the Craft or are interested in becoming practitioners. Ravenwolf lays it all out in easily understood terms, and her recommendations for further reading at the end of each chapter are excellent. One thing I would have liked to see more of was pointers toward the history of our faith. Most witches I know are forward-looking, but I do think that we need to be aware of our past as well. Other than that, no real criticism. If you're looking for a place to start, this is a good one
Rating: Summary: An excellent introduction to Wicca/Paganism Review: An absolute must for anyone interested in learning about Wicca. Fully comprehensible and a "hands-on" exploration of modern-day witchcraft. The reason I enjoyed this book is it's light-hearted approach to a sometimes confusing subject. It dispells all of the readers confusion and helps to correct a lot of the misinformation about this religion.
As one who has been exploring earth based spirituality for a while I was quite happy to get my hands on such a book. With a "come sit by me" feel and her own inimitable humor Silver's book helped me to put the information that I had swimming around in my head all together. I hope we see more of this author
