Rating: Summary: This Is Awful Review: I noticed in this book she does the "mix 'n match" approach to deities, which does NOT encourage establishing a meaningful relationship with a deity (which is what religion is supposed to be about, yes?) and she can't even get her deity information straight. She mentioned something about Freyja being a Lunar Goddess. Hahahaha! Nothing of the kind! She clearly knows less than NOTHING about the Northern deities, and would realize that Freyja is anything BUT "lunar." This woman is just so much candyfloss.
Rating: Summary: Pleased but needs more detail please.. Review: On the one hand, I adore how well this book is written. On the other hand, I am totally new to this and haven't yet developed my nose for the Craft yet. What I want to know, and have tried asking to little avail, is how is a person supposed to use the formula for holy water, with their wand, when their wand should already be consecrated according to the directions, but the book never gives directions for consecrating the wand in the first place. A bit of a runaround in a circle, which definately led me to expanding my knowledge throughout different books on the various areas not so thoroughly explained. I am chalking it up to an editor's mistake; as she was relatively thorough throughout the rest of the book. I do recommend this book, and most of the ones she's tells you at the end of each chapter to write. I am very impressed with book, I just wish it had more details.
Rating: Summary: Hmmm... Review: I like her books, they have some good information but...they seem to be aimed at teens who want to rebel. It's like she's giving them a way to be opressed and misunderstood.....
Rating: Summary: Pretty Good Book Review: I first bought Silver RavenWolf's book Teen Witch and this book To Ride A Silver Broomstick helped to further my studies. Read this book with an open mind. It is a great guide, but don't see it as the be all and end all of wicca. This is a hands-on guide, not a book on the history of wicca.
Rating: Summary: Good Reading Review: This book is very interesting, also really helpful..I would recommend it if you are just starting out..
Rating: Summary: Well it helped me see teh diffrent types of witchcraft. Review: Way to fluffy and over cerimonial. While reading the book I felt as if I was being preached to and not informed. And it toped it off with one of ehr personal concoctions made out of hot sauce and peppers to magickly clear out you system if you feel like you are coming down with any thing. The only thing this would do is have you live on the toilet for a day. At least it would empty you out. This did it for me and I couldn't take another word she rote seriously.
Rating: Summary: Great book for the beginner Review: This was the first book I ever read on the craft. Loaded with basic information and a beautiful rendition of The Charge of the Goddess. Basic information on everything you need to know to become a witch as well as journal writing excersises, meditations, and simple formulas. Every time you read it from the 1st time to the 100th time, you discover something new.
Rating: Summary: To Ride a Fluffy Bunny Review: I know I said it before, but it's so far back I'll say it again.$ilver Ravenwolf is called the Queen of the Fluffy Bunnies, and those who love her do not understand that title. This book alone should describe what that means, but only if one is willing to read more that what was written by $ilver. If you need an introductory book, read Bucklands Big Blue Book. Those ready for more advanced work should read Gerald Gardner, and those ready for history and theology should read Raven Grimassi. Wicca is a religion that embraces the cycle of nature. Life is part of that cycle, and so is death. The Goal of the Witch is to achieve balance with nature. It is no mystery to a Witch that when we are born we are covered with blood, a vital fluid of life. Wicca is also a religion that is trying to gain genuine recognition as a valid religion, practiced by a variety of people of all ages and walks of life, not just teenagers who think that magick is making a wish on your lucky quartz crystal. On the other hand, you can sanitize and sugar coat the religion, take out anything that could possibly offend anyone, pretend that we are all sweetness and light instead of people with good and bad combined, and you would have $ilver Broomstick. That is why anyone who is initiated in a coven and has done actual work on their faith finds $ilver Ravenwolf both insulting and an impediment. Traditionalists may criticize Z Budapest and Starhawk for their views, but not for their knowledge or teaching skills. Many debate whether the Farrars broke oaths when they wrote their books, but none dispute the genuine value of their books. $ilver, alas, has none of those redeeming qualities that even the pariahs of wicca posess. Her version of Wicca is to pretend that there is nothing bad in the world and that all witches are sweet and nice people who never do anything wrong because it is a sweet and nice religion with nothing even remotely resembling anything that might be considered dark. That leaves nothing but cuteness without substance, much like a Fluffy Bunny.
Rating: Summary: just my view Review: this book was pretty informative to me. I can't say that I connect with this book anymore though. I share some of the feelings of silverraven wolf about Christianity, but it's the people in the religion that is the porblem, not the religion, since people have been shoving words in Spirit's mouth for years on end. But she really does make Wicca look all sweetness and light, like nothing can go wrong and I totally disagree with some of the rules she set up in the ''Teen Witch'' book on the basic witch rules. I feel like she made them up herself. I like her sense of humor, but I currently only use the books for the important information now, like finding out about color correspondences and stuff like that. All in all, you might want to look into other pagan authors.
Rating: Summary: great Review: hey im not saying that its bad 4 ppl 2 hate it b coz every1 has their own view. this is just my view, and i would have 2 say that i would definetly reccomend it 2 any1 in the craft. beginners would obviously benefit from it more, however i do feel it would give even the advanced some help maybe not a greeeeeaaaaaaat help but it would give them help. so if ure a beginner i would definetly reccomend this. if ure not then i would say u would benefit. i am a fan of silvers work however im not being biased and u can disagree with me if u want every1 2 their own view. thanx 4 listening (or reading) kevin
