Summary: This book is great for beginners
Review: i as recently introduced to the Craft by a friend who reccomended this book. It is best read with others that go into more detail as this is an overview. i love it because i am 12 and found that it is a good thing to give to someone you want to understand your views! I think that if you read it you might want to have someone explain a little bit about the religion to you first( or read 'power of the Witch' by Laurie Cabot) she does tend to go into a"here is the one and only right way to do things" mentality and some more religious beliefs could be included but if you use the suggested reading lists you will have no problem. i think this a great book to read and please do not think i am some teenybopper who watches charmed and wants "powers" because i am not. I am truly interested in the craft and the beliefs included and think that this book is great for anyone who would like to learn

Summary: Excellent Beginner Study...Great Reading for the Advanced
Review: I have been practising for many years now, and picked up her book one day out of interest. I found it gentle and straight forward. She has no fluff. People like the Farrar couple and Buckland, that have interesting stuff, are into nakedness and bondage as well as scurging. Silver is a mother of 4, Iam a mom too and there is no way I would recommend those books, since they border on sick and demented. An it harm none, do what thou wilt...those other "witches" sure don't follow that rule now do they? I recommend Silver's books entirely...ALL OF THEM. She doesn't scare you away from the spirituality of the religion, and allows you to be able to enjoy it with some fun too. This religion should not be somber or weird, and Silver makes sure of that. Spells, not that many according to others...I've seen more than this in books, and I have alot of books. Her spells are easy to follow if you chose to do it exactly (which you should'nt do anyway, and even Silver says so). My husband is reading it now as a beginner book, and I have just bought the "Teen Witch" book for my daughter that Silver wrote as well. ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Summary: This book has got it all!
Review: This is one of the first books I read, and after reading it, I already learned enough to have enough confidence to call myself a witch (wiccan if you prefer)

The practical assignments are very usefull, and you learn a lot by doing them.

If you only buy one book on witchcraft: BUY THIS ONE!

Summary: Fabulous beginner book by a Fabulous Lady!
Review: Those of us solitaries in this country who do not have the benefit of learning wicca from a local coven love Silver Raven Wolf with all our hearts. She is a beautiful individual with a good heart. "To Ride a Silver Broomstick" allows the solitary novice to broach the subject of witchcraft in a completely nonthreatening environment. She encourages readers to do exercises very important to the process of discovering the witch inside. She responsibly includes extra reading sources at the end of each chapter, and encourages students to learn from as many sources as possible. She also goes the extra mile in her efforts to support her readers. She responded to a letter I wrote to her at a time when I was very concerned about about the anti-witchcraft attitudes in my community. She sent words of encouragement and information about an organization she developed to protect witches from discrimination and persecution.

Summary: Excellent Book!
Review: This is a very good book for a beginning Wiccan. It is straight forward and down to earth. Just ignore the formula for Holy Water! Silver herself will tell you that! I love Silver RavenWolf and will read anything she writes. Blessed Be!

Summary: This book was a creative fire burner for me
Review: Silver Ravenwolf started the wheels of creativity turning in my new journey into witchcraft. I now have no fear of writing my own rituals and actually feel more confident in my spell casting. I already had the reference books. I needed this book to actually get started. To quote a favorite song of mine--"Give me fuel, give me fire, give me that which I desire...quench my thoughts with gasoline." Metallica

Summary: I like this book!
Review: This book is a really good book. It is VERY thorough. If you are new to Wicca, I recommend this book highly. There are only a few books out there that actually explain how to practice Wicca, and this is one of them. Now I know why they call her Mama Silver...she can be a bit overbearing, but I love her. Just ignore the cheesy cover-art!

Summary: An okay book, but not for everyone!!!
Review: Silver Ravenwolf was recommended to me when I first started researching wicca. At first her book seems real down to earth. No holier-than-thou preaching and seemed to be very open. However sometimes she overdoes it with the magikal happenings, spells, and excerises. Silver Ravenwolf should have stayed more on the basics than getting to any fancy spells. However an upside to her book is the excerises. These excerises really weed out those who think wicca is just fun and games, from those who are really serious about it. However once again these excerises can get tedious. Writing down definitions to 30+ wicca terms, doesn't help the novice, and discourages those who would otherwise be really interested in the craft. However overall it is a good book for the beginner, but only if used in conjuction with other books.

Summary: Good Beginner Book
Review: Ravenwolf is a good beginner's guide to the Craft; she focuses primarily on practical magic. However, this book is not a end-all souce; other books are necessary in areas such as history and some books are recommended reads at the end of her chapters. I tend to steer beginners towards this book because Ravenwolf uses a well-organized, practical approach and history is sometimes better learned in a separate volume and at a later time anyway.

Summary: Good information for beginners
Review: Despite the mild cheeziness to that cover, I found that the content within the book was very valuable and interesting. While rudimentary, it did the job that it was intended to do -- focus towards beginners in magickal theories and knowledge. Just like *any* book on philosophy or religion, personal opinion or the foundations of her teachings are reflected in her writing, and it's up to the reader to consider and decide for themselves what their viewpoints are in comparison, rather than swallow it without thought, or reject it completely for differing philosophies. Despite the fact that I did not agree with every single notion in the book, it did the two things I expected: informed me, and challenged me to think.
