Rating: Summary: Nothing to get excited about Review: I admit I came into this book with high expectations but I was a little disappointed. It's an okay book... I could have done without it. I wouldn't recommend it for beginners. For that, try Scott Cunningham. He really comes out through his printed words. It feels like you are having a conversation with him (however one sided it is :-) ). Mrs. RavenWolf writes like she's writing a school text book. Blessed Be.
Rating: Summary: CRAFT??? Review: Absolutely nothing to do with the reality of the Craft or Pagan beliefs. We are not some cutesy little bunch of nut-cases running around trying to magically change everyone elses world. We live IN CONJUNCTION with nature. This book as well as others similar to it by this author and other so-called pagan authors are merely books of fiction for quick sells to young people and older people who really have no knowledge of the Craft as it really is. So if you want a bunch of silly information and fiction stories then buy the book. BUT if you want reality in Paganism and in the various Craft Paths, then buy a non-fiction or talk to actual people involved in the Craft way of life. Because it is so much nonsense like so much other nonsense being presented out in writer's dream lands for book sales I find it no different and certainly not even as good as some of the hype offered to the unknowing. For that I give it a zero if it were included here but since it isn't it has to go as a 1.
Rating: Summary: Barbie Is A Witch And Ravenwolf Wrote the Book For Her! Review: Llewllyn is famous for really bad books and this book is one of the absolute worst. Thank you Llewllyn for sticking a Barbie on A Broomstick on the cover and thank you Silver Ravenwolf for watering down Craft principles for mass production. All the nutritional substance of a twinkie. If youre a crystaltwinkie then this book is DEFINITELY *your* cup of brew!
Rating: Summary: It has mass-media appeal but no real substance. Review: RavenWolf has really hit something here. She has brought forth a load of baloney! I am also a beginning Wiccan, but even I can tell that this book is so much drivel. There is no support to any of her claims and rituals, and she completely trivializes the whole practice of Wicca, making it seem like a cutesy little pasttime when it should be a meaningful part of one's life. I belive, as many others do, that the craft should be incorporated into one's life, not the singular focus of all of your existence, which is what RavenWolf seems to suggest, even as she makes the practice seem like something you do on weekends! If you read this book, do so with an open mind and your own judgement, but don't take it as everything you'll ever need to know about Wicca or pagan beliefs. Read other books as well to give yourself a more well-rounded and probably more accurate view. The book does have some appeal for the beginner, but seasoned practitioners would recognize it as lacking .
Rating: Summary: A MUST READ FOR THE MAYBE NEW PRACTIONER!! Review: I found this book to be full of information in all areas of study. General enough as to not scare off those who might choose to practice a specific Tradition, and specific enough to lend guidance to those who are new to the area of study. I believe it a must for any New Generation Witch. A guide to further expansion of your own system, to be used in conjunction with other reference material. Silver RavenWolf has proven to be open-minded and knowledgeable, and makes the learning process enjoyable. A must even if you are not interested in becoming involved with the Craft, as it proves that every point of view can add to the whole we make in our own minds of what to believe and what to disregard. My reason for only giving it 4 stars is that I haven't read enough books in this category to make an accurate assessment, however I have enjoyed this the most, so far... I keep it as a permanent addition to my "tools". Thank you Silver RavenWolf
Rating: Summary: GO away if looking for mythos and theology of wicca Review: This book is not a very good one. It deals with almost entirly magickal operations and know how. This is good for people into New Age stuff and if I was revieing for New Age people I would give it a 5. For those interested in the Craft go Away!!!
Rating: Summary: Reviews Review: I personally thought it was alot of nonsense but of course a fiction is a fiction. I suggest if you want to waste time reading all these types of witchcraft books then you aren't really wanting to do anymore than entertain yourself. But if you want the real stuff, you better look elsewhere in the historical and factual written books, not these silly quick sells that everyone seems to be turning out to make a quick buck on. This is the silliest I ever read and too bad there has to be any stars for it, but well, you get what your looking for in writers and their books.
Rating: Summary: This is a great book for begginer witches and advanced !!! Review: This book is an excellent book. It is extremely easy to understand, and you don't have to read every page. you can jump around if you like!!! I have learned so much from this book and I reccomened it to any beginner witches!!! This book contains so much info that it amazes me. There is so much you can do with the spells it teches you and the spells actually work!!! I reccomend this to anyone interested in the craft, it is an excellent book.
Rating: Summary: You'll find what you wish to in this book. Review: There is always a piece of the truth you seek in all things that come to you. I truly found what I needed from this book, gleened it and left what was not mine. Not all truths will be mine but surely what I need will come as it is needed.
Rating: Summary: Outsiders Review: Being from the Columbine Shooting area and having recently moved from the area of the Vampire Killings (the Rod Ferrell case)unfortunately I have come to conclude that this "outsider" type of writing only caters to and encourages kids to go on their different paths instead of trying to adjust to society and the rules. Yes there are rules in life and saying spells to get what you want and all this magic stuff isn't the way kids get to be succesful when they grow up. It takes hard work and plans to be succesful in our lives. Even playing in these realms in this day and age is not possible without leading into other areas. Rod Ferrell said in an interview: "Each of us has a black and a white dog within us. It just depends on which dog you choose to feed the most." I think these types of books should encourage kids to look more in themselves as to how or why they are different and not to think of being THAT different as being desireable. We're all different of course but wasting time on magical fantasies don't teach us kids about realities in the world. Sorry I didn't like it for that reason, but then being a kid and seeing all my peers getting involved in this dream world stuff and some taking it way too far just so that they feel they "fit it" to something is getting scarey. Maybe not for you adults that write this kind of stuff but other kids take it all differently. I think there should be more responsibility in the people that write and publish these books. Sorry.
