Summary: One of the best books written for beginners into the Craft
Review: Raven Wolf out does herslef with this book. I have read to Stir a Magic Cauldron, and this book follows it perfectly. The reassurances and confidence that mother Raven gives you in the book is well worth the price alone. A must have for anyone interested in the Craft. MM&MP

Summary: Be a Witch. Just Add Water?
Review: You cannot become Wiccan by reading a book. Like most things in life, it requires effort and study under a mentor. Like many nature-based religions, it is initiatory. You must be initiated in to the Wiccan religion. You cannot simply purchase a dimestore book and claim the title and be truly a member of the Wiccan faith. I know that many people believe that Wicca is whatever they want it to be, but words have meanings. A religion is a body of beliefs and practices. If you aren't engaging in those practices, and you don't share those beliefs, you aren't a member of that faith. I'm sorry. I wish the best to anyone who wishes to truly study the Craft, and I bid you look elsewhere.

Summary: Faery Tale
Review: This book did absoutely nothing for me. It approaches Wicca in a very "casual" way. The only use I believe this book could server would be to find better books on Wicca. Scott Cunningham's books beat this one out, 10 fold. This tripe is everything Wicca does not need, which is a fantasy, spell work, hocus pocus type writing. If you are seriouly concidering walking the Path with the Goddess, then I suggest you start elsewhere.

Blessed Be, Dallan

Summary: Absolutely wonderful
Review: I have many of Silver's books but this one was my favorite. She explains things in plain english instead of confusing you with long drawn hard to understand mumbo jumbo. I met her when she came to my home town and even had her sign my copy. She is a wonderful, knowledgeable woman. If you haven't read To Ride A Silver Broomstick I highly recommend it. It's the perfect beginner book.

Summary: A good book once you get past the cover...
Review: I ignored this book for years because I found its cover so trivial. Then I met some of Ms. Ravenwolf's personal students and realized that they were among the most magickally mature people I'd ever met.

So, I picked up the book.

The book is written in a style that leaves you feeling you've been sitting on the back porch sipping lemonade and chatting. It's friendly, it's approachable, it's a great place to start! It's also not a bad place to stop in for a refresher.

Some reviewers have claimed that there are inaccuracies in the book. Maybe. I didn't catch any, but then I'm not a heathen and know nothing of their deities. On the topics that matter most to a young beginner, it's spot on. (As to the typos, you can blame the publisher for not hiring a professional editor. That's not the author's job.)

Does it oversimplify? Perhaps. But we can't take in all of the wonderfully intricate beauty of the pagan way of life in one swallow, and this book never claimed to be comprehensive.

I'd recommend it.
