Rating: Summary: Fluff stuff Review: $ilver kind of makes Wicca look bad, no wonder so many people look down at wicca as some make believe religion when $ilver is one of our best selling authors. But you know her critics as well as her fans contribute to her cash pile. Her books should have never made it as far as they have today. I keep thinking that since she has studied for so long and had so much time to figure things out, that maybe she'll finally write a good book. But have been wrong time and time again as $ilver continues to put out her repetitive material.I would not suggest any of her books to any one, especially not to beginners because the beginner is most prone to take her words for matter of fact and not just a old fluffs opinion.
Rating: Summary: A Book for Every Witch Review: To date, I've skimmed through this book, then sat down and READ it and am pleasantly surprised! Being in the Craft for some time now, it is really difficult for me to find a book about the Craft that really makes practical sense and doesn't try to sound 'mysterious' or 'wierd'. Silver has accomplished not only teaching the Craft, but entertaining while she's doing it. "..Broomstick.." is informative, concise and wildly hilarious, sometimes all at the same time! Love the way Silver has done this and appreciate her ability to get her point across without being B-O-R-I-N-G!! Gotta Luv Her!
Rating: Summary: Way too shallow Review: When i say shallow, i mean it doesnt go in-depth. She DOES talk about her personal life way too much. The information in this book is too spread out and repeatative. Its completely BORING most of all. Its hard to even get into it to learn it, when it is so spread out. I dont recommend this book to any advanced practitioners, maybe a beginner could use the Ravenwolf books as a beginning guide, but even for them it will be boing and seem dull. Its so stereotypical also. As if everyone does the same thing, it doesnt over much of a broad perspective on choices of specific knowledge. Basically all of the silver Ravenwolf books are like this.
Rating: Summary: Silver Broomstick is a ride anyone can enjoy Review: This book has appeal like no other. New Generation Witchcraft some call it because it is not like Gardnerian Witchcraft. That is a real plus. This book keeps you interested without any weird stuff that might make a person feel uncomfortable. It is well organized starting off from a beginning point of view and progressing into more intermediate stuff. As a mother I can relate to Silver and her family. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to those new to the craft no matter what their age because Silver writes for everyone. I will be passing this book on to my daughter. It is a great book for teens because Silver writes in a simple, straightforward manner. No extraneous material to wade through. Everything is interesting. This book is especially helpful to those in their first year of the craft because they can relate to Silver's own experience when she talks about her first year praciticing and how torn she was between the pagan holidays and the Christian ones that she was used to celebrating.
Rating: Summary: Nice Content Review: While this book has a nice content, I am still hesitant to recommend it to those who are a bit more advanced in their studies/practice of witchcraft. Ravenwolf is good at tying everything to match her views, and forgets to explain that witchcraft has many many paths. She discusses her personal life MUCH too much, but the content of the book is a feast for a pagans soul.
Rating: Summary: Silver Review: This book is thoughtfully organized to be an easy read. Informative and helpful to those new and wise to the craft, I enjoy it often. It is definately a must have for any wiccan's collection.
Rating: Summary: Great Beginner's Book Review: Even though many Wiccans/Witches/Pagans don't agree with Silver or her concepts, I found that this book was a great beginner's book. It is a pretty complete and well-rounded book for those just starting out. I usually recommend this one to all who are looking for some simple, easy to understand answers.
Rating: Summary: Grab ur broomsticks...get set...GO! Review: This was the first book I read on Wicca, and I'm sure this was the best choice! Silver has a wonderful way of de-mystifying misconceptions of the Craft, giving you ... gentle [information], and presenting you the facts in a pleasant and funny way. Along with much insight and delightful drawings, she provides you with serious study, interrupted once in a while by good laughs. I have bought her "trilogy", if I may, and wasn't able to put these books down before reaching to the end page. A MUST-HAVE for the new student, as well as higher degrees of Witches. Blessed Be!
Rating: Summary: A Great Book For Teachers And Students Review: This is a great beginner's book, though certainly not one that can stand on its own. Good thing she states that on the onset and provides reading lists at the end of each chapter. Like with most books on the subject, I found some of it usefull and some of it that I didn't agree with, but the strongest features of the book IMO are the exercises sprinkled throughout that gets the beginner thinking about why they're interested in witchcraft and what it all means to them. I've found these, as well as much of the general information, very useful in discussions with the non-Tradition specific learning circle of mostly newcomers that I co-teach. Specific information on different Traditions and Dieties we get from other sources.
Rating: Summary: My most used book! Review: I love this book and find that I go back to it time and time again, in addition to my many books on living wicca. very comprehensive! I highly reccomend this book to anyone interested in this type lifestyle especially newcomers!
