Summary: GREAT BOOK!!!!!
Review: I usually don't rate books on here, but this one I will. This is a book that has been needed for a long time in the Wicca community. This book is excellent for people just starting out in the craft, and for those who have been around for a while.

I would strongly encourage all of you to buy this book. It is very well written and explains things in "layman's" terms.

Summary: I think the book is great..
Review: To ride a Silver Broomstick was my second book that I got from SilverRaven...I think the book is very good for someone who has just begun to study the craft...It's very friendly and light...It's fun to read, not difficult and boring...I think she did a great job on this book and her other books. I read this book with an open mind and found it to be very helpful...I don't know why all ya'll are hating on silver's books because they happen to be very decent...;)

Summary: Very educational book
Review: I only found that a few details were skipped over, but all in all, a good read. She presents the material the same way that a good friend or mother would.

Summary: This would have been five stars five years ago.
Review: This was my first book on "witch stuff" and I'll always remember it with a certain amount of affection. However, there are a lot of things here that are just WAY off (Freya = Frigga? I think NOT!), and her carelessness with historical fact can't be offset by her carefulness about ethics. Especially since I, personally, believe that carelessness about historical facts in a book meant to appeal to a wide audience IS a bit unethical.

If you're a complete newcomer to things pagan, you'll either love or hate this book -- I rarely hear of any middle ground. If you're something of an old hand, you'll love it, hate it, or feel a certain amount of affection for a "beginner's book" while trying to steer your own new coven/kindred/grove/etc. members to something a little higher quality.

Summary: Fantasy or Soul?
Review: I've read everything from Anton LaVey to Gerina Dunwich. I think all books are worth your while. I gain spiritual knowledge even from old Silver. Even though she may not be the most saphisticated (ironically I don't know how to spell!) author but you can tell she puts alot of soul into her books. And from that I respect and learn from her. I think other people should to. I'm aware her books have a tint of "fantasy" that is to some degrading. But even Anton himself said fantasy is a human instinct. We shouldn't denie ourselves fantasy in fear of our ego or whatnot. I truely believe our souls are pure creativity and brilliance. Are souls are where fantasy can become reality and vice versa. Now don't think I mean we should all live in perminant trips (even though that would be nice). Reality is real as long as everyone thinks it is and for some reason humanity likes reality this way. Very cruel if you ask me and Mother Nature. Point is read any book with an open soul and you will gain from it.

Summary: LIBRARY
Review: There are six books that every Wiccan/Wtch needs in there Library: 1. Wicca A Guide For the Solitary Practitioner 2. Livin Wicca A Further Guide For the Slitary Practitioner (SC) 3. To Ride A Silver BroomStick (SR) 4. To Stir A Magick Cauldron (SR) 5. To Light A Sacred Flame (SR) 6. Buckland's Complete Book of Witchcraft. I have bought all of Scott Cunningham books that are out at this time and Ms Silver Ravenwolf is a conpliment to his work. After I had read all of Scott books I needed to grow in the Craft I bough RavenWolf three books that I have mention and She is Great. Her books has help me grow! I am planning on buying all of her books. Thanks Silver RavenWolf!

Summary: Style: 5 stars; Substance: 2 stars
Review: This was the first "witch book" I bought, and had I reviewed it back then, I'd have given it five stars. I like Silver's writing style. It's friendly in a big-sister-ish way, without being condescending but WITH important reminders about paying attention to ethics.

However, that was five years ago. And I'm older and wiser and I now see that this book Has Problems. I'm no expert either, but I know enough about Norse mythology to know that some of the stuff she has to say about it is just flat-out inaccurate, and that bothers me. I realize that it's not her area of expertise, but STILL. If you're going to make a claim that flies in the face of scholarly evidence, BACK IT UP!

[End rant. Sorry. This is a particular peeve of mine.]

Now where was I...?

Oh yes. If you're young and new, you'll either love or hate this book. If you've been around the pagan scene(s) for a while, you'll either look upon this book with a certain amount of affection (as I do), and blush to admit you re-read it from time to time for inspiration ... or you'll REALLY hate it.

However, since Silver's one of the big names in the pagan revival, I'd say that most pagans have a degree of responsibility in reading what she has to say -- and being prepared to correct whatever misconceptions her work would give someone about your own beliefs.

Summary: Beginner Witches and Old Hands
Review: I believe that this is one of the better books on wicca today. Silver puts good information out there in a way that the modern reader can comprehend and practice. It is an active book which gets the reader to participate in learning. It's sort of like having a teacher or at least a teacher's workbook there to help you along while you are learning all about the basis for witchcraft today. It's a fresh look on wicca and focuses on the wicca of tommorrow over the wicca over a millenia ago. It is easy for beginners to grasp and is easy to teach from.

All together, I believe that I would teach from this book and I believe that it is one of the "must get" books for wicca.
