Rating: Summary: Above Black a true story. Review: Having been in the military as a advanced warfare specialist. I can attest to the existance of extremely unplausable operations if taken relative to what we consider to be true reality. The reader must expand his or her horizon of the possible. Allowing the fear which comes with that expansion to come and go. Then and only then can the truth of this book be taken in. All of the events which the writer discribes are very normal in the above top secret arena. The less you know the better. Hats off to Dan Sherman. The only reason he is still with us is the conviction at the top that no one will belive his story and in that the secret is safe. Some of the most advanced weapons are electromagnetic in nature and are designed to shut down the control systems of the enemy and not destroy the phyical structure. When this happens, what Dan was working on will be the only means of communication and control.
Rating: Summary: Another Book in the Tradtion of Hoaxes Review: I am an avid reader of UFO books and I am always willing to read anything new but I am also mindful of hoaxes! Think twice about buying a book for $18 that one can read in about an hour. This is another in a long line of hoax books that follow the now familiar pattern (see if it sounds familiar): 1)The author either is or claims to be an ex employee of a government agency and in a department that we usually have never heard of. 2)He spends a lot of time explaining that he is in danger for telling this secret he is about to reveal and that he has to tell us "to get the truth out" or to"get it off his chest"..usually after many years of soul searching. 3)Usually none of what the author says can be confirmed and we are usually told this is because either his involvement was so secret it cannot be checked or that government spooks have erased all records of the authors existence. (check out Bob Lazar for a great example of this type of nonsense)The more likely reason is that all of it is untrue to begin with but the uninformed and unintelligent will discount this possibility outright. The surprise of this book is the rather tame claims made in it.Most of what is "revealed" is a boring experiment that Sherman claims to have been involved with and the detail he goes into to explain it is tedious. He reminds the reader that he is not a writer and that is correct. Whether one believes him or not(I don't) there isn't much to the story to get excited about or to waste $18 dollars on.
Rating: Summary: Failed author with amateurish story. Review: I bought this book at a used books store's [...]. I was so utterly amazed at the five star ratings after reading the book in about an hour and a half. The writing is amateurish at best and the editing seems to have been nonexistent. A book without a plot, totally devoid of new facts or ideas, and it rambles from one poor conclusion to another. Most of the ex-government and ex-military UFO writers have made their discharge papers and military reviews available to credible UFO researchers. I find it strange that Mr. Sherman has repeatedly refused to do so and also strange that his so-called supervisor said he would tell the 'full truth' three years ago. See all the reviews to find this three star review of a book that wasn't read? "As Dan's last supervisor in the Air Force, I felt it was time to say "Hi". I can't go into the particulars regarding his separation and haven't read his book (however, I retire in December and can tell anyone who is interested how/why he was separated then). I can safely say that Dan was a clerk." and... "I can also say I have had access to the same materials as Dan and haven't met an alien yet (at least not interplanetary aliens). It is a bit of a running joke among some people in our profession to tell people we are doing Alien research; if they chose to believe us, we never correct them. Dan, congrats on the book; guess selling insurance wasn't all it was cracked up to be.... " Perhaps his supervisor was threatened with a lawsuit and his supervisor declined to come forth with 'the rest of the story.' Regardless of Sherman's credibility or lack of one, this book wasn't worth the dollar I paid for it and if you buy this book as a work of fiction, you won't enjoy it. It clearly is fiction and not even mediocre fiction. If you buy this book thinking you'll learn some new facts or get some new insight into existing UFO lore, you'll be very disappointed. Nothing in this book can be verified, the author has made sure of this. Apparently the author failed in the military, failed in the insurance business, and has worked low paying jobs since writing this failed piece of fiction. [...] I have read just about all the valid works of UFO research in the last twenty years. [...]
Rating: Summary: It will force you to turn the page! Review: I cannot remember the last time I was so entertained by a book. While the subject matter is quite hard to believe, the authors no nonsense style makes it too hard not to believe. I for one do, and I'm buying another copy for my brother!
Rating: Summary: Worst writing and poorest editing ever! Not to mention BS! Review: I got this book as a "white elephant" gift and after reading it, I now know why. Discounting the 'large' print, it's about an hour read, if you can finish it. This book goes in circles. The writer is talking about stuff that he's not supposed to but then doesn't go into details because he "can't"? The whole thing was just too bizarre. He's not in the military anymore but won't go into why? He has been discredited by mainstream UFO/Conspiracy researchers. A clerk with a TS clearance who's performance reviews were so bad they refused him reenlistment. He refused to release his discharge papers and reviews. Wonder why? The whole book is like a plane that never leaves the ground. Please, do yourself a favor and avoid this book - it's not even appropriate as a joke gift. Not even if it were priced for #1.00. I personally guarentee that if you buy and read this book you will see that all the five star reviews are bogus, good to have friends in low places eh?

Rating: Summary: Thought-provoking Review: I have had a rather interesting history, myself; crew-chief for a Nike-Herc. fire-control site in the 70's and early 80's, holding a TS clearance. I also worked for a company that is little-known, but does a great deal of black-ops consulting for the CIA, DOD, Marshall Space-flight center, Redstone Arsenal, China Lake, and many other high-security facilities. I have seen first-hand certain unclassified evidence of strange weapons-design, which truly makes me wonder about those that were classified. There were areas of the company that I saw only high-ranking military entering and leaving, in addition to super high-tech (even by today's standards -- I was there in 1990-92)"toys." I, therefore, can attest to Mr. Sherman's description of the U.S. Government's mania for secrecy. The rest, well.... it's really not too much of a stretch, considering the "terrestrial" technology I have witnessed.
Rating: Summary: Have a little faith and open your mind Review: I have read a number of books about the UFO/Alien phenomena-- and despite the brevity of it's length, Dan Sherman's "Above Black" is one of the most intriguing and revealing tales on this subject. In his own words, it is not a "tight little package with no questions left unanswered"...the reader is certainly left with plenty to speculate. But anyone who had done extensive reading on this subject knows that no one book out there is the end-all be-all of answers. At best, the UFO/Alien/government secrecy/etc. topic is a giant, loose-fitting picture puzzle, and this book is simply another (though in my opinion, sizeable) piece in the "Big Picture" of it all. There are no absolutes in this realm-- but even accounting for what may be total hogwash in the alien literature world (and naturally, it's there!), the overall spectrum of books like this one will collectively reveal some shades of truth. I think only a hardened cynic with an incredibly narrow mind would not allow that some of it is actually honest and factual, and not just intentional "misinformation", or crass ego-boosting. I have read the other comments on this book, and while I honestly do respect everyone's viewpoints, I must say that I am confused (and a little saddened) by those who choose to summarily dismiss this book as "juvenile and unfocused" fiction, that it follows the pattern of other "insider" revelations, and thus must be "another in a long line of hoax books"...excuse me, but by what standards do you proclaim ANY so-called non-fiction work to be a hoax or not a hoax? Even the most respected literature on this subject is not irrefutable. "The author either is or claims to be an ex-employee of a government agency and in a department that we usually have never heard of"...Really? Go figure! We the all-knowing civilian public haven't heard of it, so it must not exist! "He spends a lot of time explaining that he is in danger for telling this secret he is about to reveal"...Dan Sherman's main fear is more the fear of ridicule, and he does not spend a lot of time explaining that he is in danger. He briefly explains his concern for revealing classified information relating to his "normal" job, takes steps to remedy that, and gets on with the story. "Usually none of what the author says can be confirmed and we are usually told this is because either his involvement was so secret it cannot be checked"...Again, Really? Go figure! The government is actually sneaky enough to keep things secret from us! "The more likely reason is that all of it is untrue to begin with, but the uninformed and unintelligent will discount this possibility outright"...I certainly do NOT discount the possibility that this book is fiction...but neither do I discount the possibility (despite the above "reasoning") that it IS true! As for the "uninformed", how exactly does one remedy this condition? Read more (potentially fictional) books on UFOs and Aliens? Certainly, not everyone is going to like this book or believe what it says, and I would not expect them to. But to those who choose to quickly dismiss this as manipulative fiction because Dan Sherman can't "prove" it happened, I ask you this: Can YOU prove it DIDN'T happen?
Rating: Summary: Fantastic! Review: I just want to say ( although I did not read all the reviews about this fenomenal book ) that your money will be well spent on this great story. Mr. Sherman is very brave to have had the courage to publish his amazing experience. I'm sure it wasn't easy for him. It is well written, with an acute sense of observation and easy to read. Although my english may not be very good, I am sure that any potential reader can undersatnd me. This book is one of the very best books I have ever read (and I asure you that I have read some). The story is incredible. The part about the basques I incline to consider it true, because I have friends in that region of Spain and they told me many times about some weird cases of anatomical anomalies that occur to people from that area. But it is not only that. It seems to me that Mr. Sherman is being very honest about his story and incredible as it may seem, I know people from the basque region with telepathic abilities. I don't want to reveal to you what this great book is about, but only to help you open your eyes about the misleading character of governments everywhere, especially the US Government, which are trading human DNA for technology. I have read the book in one afternoon only and it left me breathless. This story is fenomenal! Read it now! If you have read stories about abductions, ufo's and strange unexplained fenomena, you will find this one to be puzzling. Everyone will find an astonishing ammount of interesting information, as well as connections to be made with every ufo topic that was 'released' to the general public in the last 30 or so years. Just incredible!!!
Rating: Summary: Above Black Review: I loved the book-too often people look only at what is written on the surface-it is what isn't written in this text that is so fascinating- real experiences follow a path of logic that leaves memory in chunks-ie not like a fictional account-these are the kind of people that we can all learn from-not so concerned about looking good, just sharing the truth the best they know how-Thanks Dan.
