Summary: I don't believe Carlos wrote this book
Review: The style of this work leads me to think it is a collection of writings - perhaps some by Carlos - that were assembled by an editor to turn out another book (after Carlos had passed?).

There is really nothing new here, though that can be said for some other volumes also, and I don't think it should be considered part of the Castaneda legacy.

Summary: If you are a seeker READ THIS review
Review: This book is a tremendous read if you have an appetite for the religious, the new age, self exploration, human potential and the like. You will love the drama of the story telling and you'll be right there in the room as the dialogue between Casteneda and Don Juan Matus takes place.

If you have read widely among new age books you will find stuff here which contradicts what you have read already, and it will leave you wondering, possibly in a big way, "Is it true?" "Is it perhaps another way?"

Let me recomend two things.

1. Read the book. At the very least you will get entertainment which is EASILY worth the price. I was gripped throughout.

2. If you care to know if it is all true then DON'T READ another book by this guy ( there are a lot of them!) until you have read all about HIM first. Oddly, my advice here is exactly that of don Juan to Casteneda in the book. He gives it in relation to one of Casteneda's lecturers and for precisely the reason I give it here. Doing the research will allow you to discover whether Casteneda's words are air or whether they have some substance. Only gullible seekers looking for an easy escape from materialism will fail to do this.

Pro Casteneda reading is easy to find. The Chapter in Churchill's "Fantasies of the Master Race" (available at Amazon) and de Mille's "The don Juan Papers" ( not on Amazon, and why not I ask!) gives you the other side.

Enjoy the book! But as with all this kind of stuff, be careful.

Summary: Autobiographical, and more personal than previous books.
Review: This book is enjoyable and entertaining. It is one of my favorite books by this author because it was more personal than the others but still contained the fantastic and incredible. Best of all are the "instructions," which are much clearer, more down-to-earth, and easier to follow than in previous books. It is not quite as adventursome as some of the others, but well worth the read!! I highly recommend it!

Summary: A giant stride in infinite regions.
Review: This book strikes as no other of Castaneda's work Its a tug in man's unknown - yet somehow known - aspect: our luminous portion. Each story is a rendering of the personal, seemingly reclusive life of Castaneda, in which the prominant theme of INFINITY is rescucitated from the dormancy of an ordinary life..... to burn in ardent pages.

Summary: ONE OF CASTANEDA'S MOST IMPORTANT BOOKS
Review: This book was published after Castaneda's death and he undoubtedly knew he was dying when he wrote it. This is his most autobiographical account. It provides insight into the very human side of a man surrounded by so much mystery. Many concepts described in earlier books are clarified here. The most important topic is that of "The Predator". This is the only one of Castaneda's books (with the exception of The Magical Passes) that addresses this most controversial subject. Make no mistake, this topic is not making reference to a metaphor. Without an understanding of this topic, one will never be able to make progress on the Path of Knowledge. For those interested, check out these other books that discuss this topic: 1) The Path (Esmeralda Arana), 2) In Search of the Miraculous (PD Ouspensky), 3) Far Journeys (Robert Monroe), 4)Enlivening the Chakra of the Heart (Florin Lowndes).

Summary: Posthumous book of Carlos Castaneda
Review: This is the posthumous book of Carlos Castaneda, it's kind of a compilation of biographical facts. This book gives a closer approach to the relation between don Juan and his apprentice, very different from the impression that you get in his previous books. Some of the information that don Juan reveals is of extreme importance to every human being: the only real duality between the physical body and the energetic body, the existence of the predator, ... If you haven't read the previos books: the teachings of don Juan, second ring of power, journey to Ixtlán, the power of silence, etc. I recommend that you read some of them before reading The Active Side of Infinity.

Summary: Complete Castaneda
Review: This last book is the top of all them; it solves many obscure places in what we had before. If you are in this, you must read it now! Many extreme secrets you always suspect are solved here!

By other side. Many times, after a book, everybody has question if there's gonn'a be anymore. And this time, the promise is very clear and exciting!

No doubt Castaneda is a great writter but to be honest, this issues have no parallel in the whole human cognition.

As a pragmatist, was a great relief to see my ideas confirm with all reason. I knew it! I was right whole time!

So, if you're on Castaneda's phainomenon by somehow, read this as soon as possible.

Summary: The active side.
Review: What can be said about the book? A must read for anyone familiar with Castaneda. Brilliant if not confusing. Take notice of many inconsistancies with his previous works. Written just before the end of his life or the beginning of his "Definitive Journey". Of course the question is still unanswered... is this stuff for real? The answer is moot. To the average person the stories related to us by Carlos were a big tease, we can never hope to aspire to the warriors way by ourselves. The best we can do is live our lives "like a warrior". The true brilliance of the works, is that it has forced many of us to accept the existence of other possibilities. Don't long for more books just because Carlos has passed on, there are more out there... Just look for them.

Summary: It's Carlos for the last time! (and what more need be said?)
Review: When someone saw me reading "Active Side of Infinity" and asked what I thought of it, I could only reply that if you love Castaneda, you will love this book. If you don't, then you won't. The most autobiographical of his works yet. Some have leveled the criticism that it is extremely self important what he has written. I would disagree. It is easy to "erase personal history" by simply becoming a recluse and secretive. What Castaneda has done here is a master stroke. By revealing the most poignant, and important, aspects of his path, he has opened himself up to an enormous of criticism. One reviewer lambasted the book as revealing nothing about the "active side of infinity". Indeed it doesn't. It does, however offer us a chance at a chance for such an encounter. Another reviewer praised the book, comparing its process to Freudian analysis. Such a view may seem feasible, but it is simply replacing the syntax of the sorceror with that of daily life. Few will take this work with the seriousness it deserves, and fewer still willl begin to walk the steps that Castaneda has been recommending for thirty years. Perhaps that is the real tragedy....
